Speed-eater says his "jaw has abandoned the frontline."

You can't eat 60 hot dogs in 12 minutes with an arthritic jaw.

A new category of sports injury.

I went to the contest at Coney Island (nathan's) 4-5 years ago. They DON'T chew. Dogs go down almost straight. Buns are consumed with water and shrink to 1/16 their mass as anyone who snacks on bread and milk knows.

That this hot dog chowing post follows the Paris Hilton one -- mere chance or vortex-spinning?

The injury is a red herring. Joey Chesnut would have cleaned his clock, brought the Championship back to the Red, White, and Blue. Kobayashi chose the cowards exit.

Joey Chestnut questions the timing: "Chestnut said his rival's sore jaw is "a strange coincidence, now that he's the underdog."

Chesnut recently broke Kobayashi's world record by downing 59.5 hot dogs in 12 minutes earlier this month in Phoenix.

If he wins Nathan's hot dog eating contest in Coney Island on July 4, he'll be the first American champion eater since 1996."
