Todd: I think the negative comments over there are about one big thing: the war. You can listen to just the segment at the end. I'm just pointing out something that's rather apparent, and Matt concedes all. Why aren't they more mad at Matt for not fighting back? I think the truth hurts, and they're displacing that onto me. It's pathetic, but obvious.
As for moderating, I don't read every word. I read strategically. It takes about a second to do each one, so think about it. Just a few minutes are needed. It's actually easier than checking the email to see what comments have been left and doing damage control after the fact.
Todd: I've written out my policy... somewhere in the comments. Basically, I don't want 4-letter-words (because I'm worried about filters) and I don't want things that are just abusive attacks on me. Also an individual with a history of repeated abusiveness will be rejected no matter what is written. Sometimes I reject things that are off the subject.
As to how to attract abuse, I think the key is to make people jealous of you (by, for example, being a law professor who gets a lot of Instapundit links, is on Bloggingheads, and gets op-eds in the NYT and WSJ). And say something sharp that pisses people off, especially if it exposes their weak spot, like for example, pointing out that libertarians condone racism or that feminists sold out for Bill Clinton. And say things in an unexpected way, so that people are left off balance and confounded. You've got to give people the motivation to want to destroy you, and then you've got to have the nerve to put up with it and to fight back only on your own terms.
An interesting edition. Although Matt has a voice suited for writing a blog. It is a chore listening to him.
And I thought it absurd that a little pudge ball like Matt who drinks, smokes and is addicted to candy attacks Renquist for having "Bad Judgment" in taking too pain killers.
Funny how no one can say - by HIS OPINIONS or RENQUISTS APPEARANCE ON THE BENCH - when the excessive use of pain killers started and stopped.
Finally, Althouse had better start attacking the conservatives more or the Lefties will start hating her more than Coulter.
I really like Yglesias' writing but, yeah, he doesn't have the best tv mannerisms. On the other hand check out his co-worker Ezra Klein who really should be on tv more.

With some coaching - a LOT of coaching - Matt could become watchable.
Is that mean of me? Yeah, well, watching it hurt too.
The juxtaposition did make Althouse look and sound especially smart and very pleasant, patient, and polite.
"So he's not a lame duck, he's a very powerful duck."
"Something like that."
Best two lines in the whole thing, and so very true.

1: How is it you draw such negative comments? From the bloggingheads site, I mean, not this post.
2: How do you have the time to moderate all these comments?

I'm curious about your comment-criteria. Do you think you'd mind talking about that sometime?
As far as the negativity, I ask because I long to be the target of such vitriol. Maybe when I start the blog back up...
I thought it was an excellent diavlog and that both of you are getting much better at doing them.
Thanks, IR.

I think you two have a nice repoir. You seem to get each other's and play off each other's dry-ish, toungue-in-cheek sense of humor.
