No 666 jokes. It's not until next Monday that Robert Byrd becomes the longest-serving member of the U.S. Senate.

In general, its a good idea for people to stay active and engaged well after the typical age of retirement. In his case, its a very costly idea for America. Every once in a while he says or does something admirable but overall his record is shameful. I can't imagine anyone outside of West Viginia defending him.
