I think technically we are only a few years away from the self-driving car. It will be our emotional attachment to driving that will get in the way. But eventually, we will have to weigh the cost of lives vs. the sense of freedom driving gives us.
Best way to avoid having to worry about parking: Buy a Yugo.
That said, with gasoline likely to get much more expensive in the future, I foresee a movement towards what they have in places like most of Europe and Japan: affordable mass transit that will allow you to get pretty much anyplace you want to.

I hope it has a black box to record what is happening when it is auto-parking.

They've had cars that do this in the Japanese market for a few years now (usually their 'women's' cars, they embrace their gender stereotypes, still).

The Yugo only solves the parking problem because you would never rely on getting it out of your own driveway.
