A much more worthwhile and thought-provoking stop in Memphis is the National Civil Rights Museum at the old Lorainne Motel.
Gracelandmark (snicker) is hemmed in by the gewgaws of hustledom: Cheap hotels, bad diners, and Trinket sellers. I think it's Memphis' version of the House on the Rock.
I love Memphis; a weekend in Memphis is time enough to see both museums, and TWM is right, there's no dilemma here, they both have their place. And while you're there, you can see Rev. Al Green preach on Sunday morning.
And Sun Studios. And the Grotto. And BBQ. And a good brewery downtown. It's all good.
And that bizarre granddaughter, or is she the niece?----Patty Hearst---and her weird gun-toting (SLO-Cult-1974) antics. Anybody else would be in jail for setting off bombs and plotting to kill people, but because she's a Hearst....she gets pardoned, not once, but twice.
You couldn't pay me to visit Hearst Castle, or buy any Hearst Publications. Are they still in publishing?
Who doesn't know Monticello? Almost everyone carries a picture of it with them at all times.
I'm glad that they've returned the Monticello design to the back of the coin, though I'm sad to see the US Mint (and Engraving and Priniting) continuing to stive towards their goal of producing the ugliestcurrency ever minted or printed on earth. Ugh. They picked up the BIG FACE trend of recent movie posters.

And a nice stadium too! Downtown Memphis has really come a long way in the past 20 years.

Good ol' William Randolph I & II. Is there a III?
