Merle. <br /><br />"He Stopped Loving Her Today" might be the greatest country song ever, too. I could probably think of a couple more "greatest ever" country songs, given a little more time. <br /><br />Admittedly, I don't know any country music recorded since the mid 80s, or pop music either, for that matter.<br /><br />For a man to have written 2 of the greatest ever is a remarkable achievement.
