Those 3 pictures were taken at the same time and place. The trees are nearly entirely bare in the third picture because they're in a much more exposed position.
Here's one more photograph, about a mile away, taken at 3 in the afternoon, in the rain.
Would it be newsworthy to report that an illegal alien who was in custody pending deportation and released by a Democrat judge has been re-arrested and charged with rape, or is this too much like "another day ending in "Y"?
The Althouse crowd aren't really trekkies, they're the exact oppposite. But i'm surprised no one mentioned the death of "Picard" aka Patrick Stewart - Captain of the Enterprise - TNG version.
He was 86, and lived a long full life. A very good actor, who toiled away in the Royal Shakespeare company before somone persuaded Roddenberry to make him Captain Kirk's successor.
Of course, he was a dumb libtard, but he wouldn't have lasted long in Hollywood as a conservative. And in any case, he was English and kept a relatively low profile via US politics.
What's really sad if there seem to be no new "Picards" or guys like Anthony Hopkins.
No matter what happens tomorrow (or whenever they finish counting votes in your area), Trump will still be President for another two years, Congress will still get nothing done and the race for 2028 - with no incumbent in the WH - will begin in earnest.
If the left captures one or both chambers, will they govern with an eye on 2028 or will they go scorched Earth with their Trump hatred and poison the well....
I voted early, and that is all I will do, so I did my best and am done. I fear a Blue Tsunami, but hope I am wrong. If I had to have one R senator pull off a victory, I would sacrifice my home state of TX to ensure the Jew Hater in Michigan is defeated.
Let me tell you a story. I think it was 2022, somewhere in there. And I'm in a Bible study. My chuch, Christ Episcopal church, liberal church. I might possibly be the most right-wing guy in my church. And everybody likes me. Church is wonderful.
Anyway, on Thursday mornings we have this 30 minute service, and then 30 minute breakfast and chat, and then 30 minutes of Bible study. And we're in the 30 minutes of free talk. Which, on this particular day (unusual believe it or not) we got a little anti-Trump in the commentary.
A black lesbian was going on and on about how crazy the president was, and awful he was, and how dangerous he was. I knew who she was talking about, of course. But she kept saying "the president."
So I said, "Wait a minute. Are you talking about Joe Biden?"
And she said, "No! I'm talking about Trump!"
"But he's not the president," I said. "He's out of office. He's irrelevant. Why are we talking about him?"
"Everybody's talking about him!" she said. And they're shushing us and trying to change the subject. Her white wife is trying to shush her, and everybody else in the room is trying to shush me. We try to keep it spiritual and happy on Thursday mornings.
Anyway, she's still anti-Trump. Most of us, we don't change our politics. (Until we do!). But it's still worth it to talk to people. Plant seeds. We all have different experiences and difference life stories. And you don't know anybody until you talk to them.
I'm sure she's voting straight ticket. I voted straight ticket. When I was young I always tried to vote for both parties because I figured there were good people in both parties. (Ooo, I got burned by that idea).
But what I want people to think about is that all these Senate and House candidates will get millions of votes. And most of the people voting are really good people, nice people. We have ideas about politics. And sometimes our ideas don't match up with the grimy reality. And it can be hard to figure out what's real sometimes. The seen and the unseen.
Anyway, God bless everyone. Go out and vote. Let's build the best country we can. Thank you for your attention in this matter.
Anyone on the left want to defend their side's attempted and maybe successful coup in Poland, where the leftists decided "This Democracy voted the wrong way, so we'll just declare the President invalid while he's out of the country and assume power. What, like we should listen to the people's vote in a Democracy?"
One of my children lives in FL. In the Space Coast area. His town received >20" of rain in the last 24 hours. That's a LOT of rain. He had mentioned something about zoning there when I visited and I called today to see if I remembered it correctly.
The slab a house sits on has to be 24" above the nearest road level. Which means on most lots- his included- the house sits on fill that was hauled in, or dug from somewhere on the lot creating a small pond or lake. Apparently that's enough (so far) to handle torrential downpours. This is the first such torrential downpour they've received since moving there. The house is currently surrounded by a moat. 4-5" below the foundation as the rainfall lessens. So the road is passable by canoe or kayak- but not everyday cars. A foot and a half of water sitting on the road is too much for most.
The ground down there is pretty porous. And, of course, they have a few streams and rivers that drain to the Indian River, which is basically the ocean but a little less salty...
I've walked his yard many a time, and there are always parts that are squishy when you trod upon them. Don't need to dig down far to find water. He has one artesian well that came with the property. No clue how deep the pipe is, but the spigot is 4 foot off the ground and water flows out at a nice rate.
Makes me wonder if FL hydrologists know where all the underground water flow in Florida is coming from and going to.
His company has everyone who can work from home working from home for the next few days. As i suppose most sensible companies are doing.
Underground water movement is fascinating. My neighbor and I live basically on top of a hill. I have a garage near the road, and a basement, and my house runs about 120' to a end in a garage on a slab- at about the same level as the upper garage floor. I have a sump pump in the upper garage. My neighbor's well is about 100' from the road and the water level is about 75' down. My well is about 700' from my house. going downhill towards the swamp, and is a dug well, with the water level down around 12-15' below ground level. TBH, probably about the same actual water level as my neighbor's well. My water quality is better- he has some sulfur in his, there's none in mine. And- no detectable iron in mine, a few PPM in his.
He and I are both puzzled over why, on top of a hill, I need a sump pump in an 8' foundation for the upper garage.
Probably more then anyone wanted to know, but I shared anyway.
Some interesting non-US-related news from the Caribbean (link):
"HAITI: THE GANG LEADER KNOWN AS 'GALAXY' HAS BEEN KILLED. 18 HOSTAGES HAVE BEEN RELEASED, INCLUDING 12 YOUNG GIRLS
"According to several online sources, El Salvador's special forces launched a massive land and air assault deep into the forests where the gangs are hiding.
"Around twenty gangsters, including the leader "Galaxy," are said to have been neutralized."
It will be interesting if El Salvador's Special Forecs clean up Haiti, just to get their 4 hostages back, when dozens of nations, and dozens of NGOs, have utterly failed to do so while spending billions. Of course, like all NGOs, these were more interested in spending money than solving problems.
The picture at the link has more text, mentioning drones, and telling us Galaxy's gang is (was?) called Cabaret.
More strikes in Iran right before people vote tomorrow? That ought to do wonders for oil prices.
I’m tempted to feel a little smug knowing I would never have voted for this loser—and that I left the Republican Party over his nomination. But the damage he’s doing to this country is far too serious to gloat about. He is a grave danger to the nation.
Just remember when the smoke clears in about a month when California finishes counting its home made ballots that Fetterman is essentially a Republican.
“ He and I are both puzzled over why, on top of a hill, I need a sump pump in an 8' foundation for the upper garage.”
Probably a perched water table, you may have a foundation on fill over a deeper clay layer that keeps water in the soil on the hilltop. The water stays there even though it may slowly drain when it gets high enough, like a bathtub. That’s what happens when you dig in clay and fill with sand or gravel. But it happens naturally too.
Or you may have a leaky water line to the house that drains into the sump. Or your downspouts are not tiled to carry water away from the house.
Fox News Poll: 71% think Trump administration lacks plan to end Iran war ~ FOX News https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fox-news-poll-71-think-trump-administration-lacks-plan-end-iran-war
NY Post: "The New York Times rushes to apologize for its outbreak of journalism" "Having outraged its core audience, The New York Times is rushing to explain how it managed to commit journalism in covering the Senate race in Alaska."
Elections tomorrow will determine if we have more gang violence here from imported gangs- the Democrat default wish, or less because we continue deportations and limit immigration-the Republican position. Funny statistic- crime in all categories appears to have dropped in the last year.
If 71% think Trump lacks a clear strategy to end the Iran War, maybe the press should tell them. His strategy is quite obvious: squeeze them economically until the regime collapses, and either the army turns on the mullahs and the IRGC, or the mullahs and IRGC decide to grab all the money they can and head for the borders. The soldiers aren't being paid, so it's only a matter of time. As with straws on a camel's back, collapse is inevitable, though the timing is impossible to predict.
I ran into a guy at the dog park, and I asked him if he had voted. And he said, "Is there an election?"
And I said, "Yeah."
"Who's on the ballot?"
"Uh, Whatley, you know, the Senate race. Whatley vs the Democrat, I can't remember his name. And the House race. And some judges."
"Oh," he said.
I asked my waitress at the diner if she was voting. "No. I'm too busy. I work every day."
Super big crowds at the early vote districts. My library was packed. Took us an hour. The computer had the wrong zip code for me because I moved. And the lady told me that my zip code was 28209. And I'm like, no, it's 28210. And the computer kept saying it was 28209. So I signed off on 28209 so I could vote. I might get a phone call about that.
We still don't have paper ballots. I told him we needed paper ballots so we didn't get hacked. And he's grinning at me. It occurred to me later that anybody who is worried about election security has totally self-identified as a Republican. "Shit! I got to keep my mouth shut."
Ran into a happy old couple in the parking lot of my grocery store. "Have you voted yet?"
"Not yet, it's too crowded."
We had a great conversation. Trump voters.
Early votes are piling up Democrat in North Carolina. We're losing in the polls and the early vote counts. Weirdly, the Republicans didn't run any candidates in the judicial elections. Zero. Our party apparatus might need an upgrade.
I voted for all the bonds because my father told me, we always vote for the bonds, and he knows way more about bonds than I do. I'm a stock guy, not a bond guy.
North Carolina might go all blue. I advise Republicans everywhere to be serious pro-lifers, and say a lot of shit about killing babies up around birth. That's a wide open target and you ought to kick the political consultant class to the fucking curb.
We'll see how crazy the abortion laws get in my state. It's doctors and lawyers and journalists and university professors against babies and the people who love them. (Which is a lot of people). My mom is shocked when I tell her that some states do abortion until birth.
It's interesting, when Cassius Clay converted from Christianity to Muslim, white Southerners did not like that at all. We were like, "Christianity is the way to God, not Islam," or "You're making a mistake, boy." I'm just making up dialog, I wasn't alive then. In my head, that last guy sounded like Foghorn Leghorn.
Anyway, there was no respect for his conversion or his name change. In guy culture, the nickname is a thing. That's a process by where "the guys" give you a new name. Like Jesus called Simon "the rock" (Peter). Maybe they called him Rocky?
So there would be reporters who refused to use this new name Muhammad, and they kept calling him Cassius Clay. Some people try to give themselves a cool nickname, but that only works if people accept it. If people refuse to use your cool nickname, man, that's sad.
Anyway, you know, of course, the man who accepted him was not a Christian, but a Jew from up north. His name was Howard Cosell.
Thanks for that Amelie link. I love that movie. They say it's the most financially successful foreign film in the USA. They also say comedy does not cross borders very well, but boy people loved this one.
She reminds me of the virgin in Clueless, and the woman who was stalking Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love. It's a strange love story because it ends when they meet, if I remember it right. They had no relationship in the movie! It's like a foreplay romance, a flirtation movie.
Flirting is a skillset people can learn. You got to practice.
Artists can be control freaks, especially writers. When I went to film school, I went from being a solo artist to being a group artist. "Oh my God I got to work on my collaboration skills." And it is so amazing, so cool, when a union happens. But she's right, it's outside our control.
Comedians call it improv when you can't plan ahead and you don't know what people are going to say. You have to listen and respond. That's when the magic happens.
For those interested, the Free Press has published, called “The Purging of Haley Stevens,” by Eli Lake. It begins:
“For a party locked in an ideological civil war, Democrats have finally found an issue that unifies them: Haley Stevens. She, of course, is the Michigan congresswoman and Democratic Senate candidate who lost her primary bid against Abdul El-Sayed.”
According to Lake’s article — and Olivia Reingd’s previous interview — the final straw was the infamous “banana ad” and El Sayed’s refusal to distance himself from it, which culminated in El Sayed ordering (!) her not to attend the unity rally.
Lake expresses some puzzlement that moderate Democrats were so eager to join the online mob against Stevens. My answer is either (1) the moderates had hoped to have the ideological showdown with the radicals after wresting control of the Housd and Senate, or, more likely to my mind, there really is no such thing as a moderate when it comes to Democrats.
Spencer Pratt @spencerpratt · 8h We are in the home stretch guys. Election Day is tomorrow and we will know who’s won the race for LA mayor in just 6 short weeks!
I think the AI ads were a bad idea, I guess. Not everything works like you think it will. It's a Hollywood town and people are stressed that AI is going to take their jobs. Apologize for the AI stuff and mean it and you will be the mayor (hopefully).
I think the AI fears are legit and Republicans ought to do a rethink on what the issues are. The Muslim Brotherhood guy said nothing about Palestine when asked in his 20/20 interview what the big issue was. He said it was AI. Smart. That kept him in the Democrat tent. They also think AI is the big issue, not Palestine. Major gear shift and the political consultants helped him with that interview. They groomed the terrorist sympathizer to normalize him.
It might be AI fears are overblown, but the economic fears are not overblown. The kids aren't finding jobs. AI is a fucking scary thing to them. Aside from the "AI is going to blow up the world" scary headlines.
Maybe that was planted to by the DNC to scare everybody about a new threat, AI, because "Trump is a Nazi" is way played out now, not working anymore.
Obama came up with it. AI. AI. AI. Scare them about Ai. Make AI the next big thing. And the AI industry agreed to say all kinds of shit about how scary AI is to help the Democrats win the White House in 2028. AI is the new Donald Trump for the Democrats..
The AI industry guys felt terrified that the Democrats were going to destroy them so they agreed to play along. Republicans are in the pocket of AI corporations like Amazon and Tesla and all the rest of them. AI is the new bogeyman and a world threat and only the Democrat nominee, Miss AOC, or maybe the Islamic terrorist guy who loves Muslim Brotherhood, can save you. "The Jews are not your friend but forget the Jews, we don't need Jews anymore, Nazi is so yesterday for the Republicans, they are immune to the Nazi charge now, and black people have lost faith in us too, luckily, Obama is on hand with a new plan. AI! Save us from AI!
Might be a good idea for the Trump administration to offer the Ai officials immunity from criminal prosecution if they will flip on the DNC agents who got them to testify that AI was a threat to blow up the world, 10% chance. First arrest those fuckers for trying to defraud an election and then get them to flip. May or may not work, it's up to you. Nobody trusts the government, we are the USA. But if you arrest the AI overlords and investigate them for election fraud, we might get some actual honesty. Obviously the DNC doesn't give a shit about honesty in elections, but many Democrats do care.
Satan: "They will all worship AI and I am AI and I will win the world that way."
Demon: "I don't think it's working boss."
Satan: "Damn it. Okay. Let's flip the script. AI is Satan and Republicans are in bed with AI companies and the only thing that will save us is Miss AOC, the scream queen of feminism. Or maybe the Islamic Jihad will save us from AI billionaires."
Satan whispers in your ear and the Holy Spirit whispers in your ear and you got to put on your thinking cap and figure out who is who and what is what.
Why did James Carville describe Haley Stevens as a used condominium? For shock value? For laughs? Does it not reflect on our society as a whole that all the major media played the quote?
We are not the right path. I’m not sure a correction is possible.
“Satan whispers in your ear and the Holy Spirit whispers in your ear and you got to put on your thinking cap and figure out who is who and what is what.”
There is a book that will clearly describe the solution to this quandary. Commonly called The Word.
Don't try to do it by yourself. Join a book club, called "Bible study" and they will show you how. Don't be scared.
In South Carolina this white guy went into a Bible study and murdered everybody. All the victims were black. And the Christians were Christian about it.
In astonishing news: “Sunday marked the start of the open enrollment period for those insured under the Affordable Care Act to select their plans for next year.
But with a second straight year of double-digit average premium increases, industry experts said they expect more people to drop coverage or switch to lesser plans as costs rise with no end in sight.
On average, Pennsylvanians insured under the ACA — commonly called Obamacare — will see a 16% boost to their premiums after a 21.5% hike this year(2025). (Pittsburgh Tribune Review).
I think calling a woman a used condom because of a political choice she has made is appalling and needs to be rebuked everywhere. Just shows the depravity of the left…. They have no respect for women they can’t thoroughly manipulate.
“We are not the right path. I’m not sure a correction is possible.”
…so many were overindulged and the faithful were blind to see it coming. Their opponents were not their kind, dear. Now we’re all suffering the consequences…
It’s amazing that Euro grocers are so retarded that almost 2 weeks into sustained cyber attacks on IOT freezers they still have refrigeration systems connected to the Internet. WTF
…a full rebuke today would be a big step in the right direction thought even if it happens we’re a long ways off as the good guys need their stalls mucked too…
…a full rebuke today would be a big step in the right direction thought even if it happens we’re a long ways off as the good guys need their stalls mucked too…
The U.S. is on slow roll to join the UK, France, and Germany. The population(s) of Dearborn and Minneapolis will explode with the offspring of gimmigrants. Off the radar are Lewiston and Portland Maine with thousands of Somalia’s.
A hearty thank you goes out to Chief Justice John Roberts for securing birthright citizenship.
Calm down doomers. There is no blue wave. The blue trickle will be hindered by the horrible candidates running against incumbents like Rogers and Collins and even 3-time statewide victor Paxton. Every crazy DSA candidate in a competitive race has lost momentum.
Go for a walk. Relax. Tune in tomorrow when the fog of MSM chatter clears and results are coming in.
"Just in time for the midterms, gasoline is down to $.74/ pound in our region."
And the SPR has been drawn down to critical levels. Now it's not just one big underground tank, it's multiple salt caverns, and some of them are still not at scrotum shrinking low levels and so Trump keeps drawing them down.
The thing about salt caverns is that if you draw the oil down too much, the salt water that you pump in to replace the oil in the cavern eats away at the walls, and according to the engineers involved, risks collapse.
I got curious. The Palisades Fire that destroyed nearly 6000 homes wss finally extinguished by January 31, 2025. I wondered how many homes had been rebuilt and available for occupation in the intervening 21 months. The answer is 28.
At a rate of 1.333 homes per month the homes that were destroyed should be restored by (checks calculator) the year 2401,
Few of the original homeowners will still be around.
**Mariam Odeh, a former staffer on Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign, is currently facing federal charges alongside 11 other anti-Israel activists accused of vandalizing the homes of members of Michigan’s Jewish and pro-Israel community and plotting to poison and murder them and their families.**
See it’s just his family, friends, associates, staffers and spouse who are hateful and lust for the opportunity to murder Jews.
El-Sayed has no idea why 100% of people close to him act this way. It’s a mystery.
The United States is the largest petroleum producing country in the world. #1. Our strategic reserves are in the ground. You'd be better off worrying about maple syrup production.
I early-voted this year, for the first time in my life. I've always voted in person, always, never missed one since 1980, and first my family of origin and then my own family always made it a big deal. Kids always went along to the polls, and depending on the timing and the length of lines, voting was followed by either going out to breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or at least ice cream (any of those were accompanied by discussions of civic duty and the importance of engagement and voting). This has been the pattern no matter what state I was in.
So it feels weird today just to be sitting here. My adult son, who also early-voted, and I may zip out for ice cream later for old times' sake. I'm thinking banana split. I haven't had one of those since, oh, the mid-aughts, when we went to Lagomarcino's in East Davenport, IA to celebrate because our then very young son requested it. (He got to pick.)
Speaking of Iowa, my phone has been blowing up especially with text messages for the past week. Although I haven't lived there now for many years, I do have the same cell phone number since June 29, 2007. I've also been receiving some from later states, but Iowa is the strong standout. Because of my longstanding "no-party" registrations, it's not just one side. So it's provided a bit of insight that's interesting.
Since the beginning of the second Trump administration, the DOJ has charged 239 people with voting fraud-related offenses including 195 illegal immigrants across 25 states.
Traders did not care for Apple's earnings results and discussion yesterday. AAPL has joined GOOG and several other biggies in breaking down out of an existing uptrend.
When a stock market that is valued at 5 standard deviations above its historic mean "corrects," bulls should be wondering how far and how fast it is likely to do it.
Trump is saying that aid to Israel ends this year. The day before the mid-terms that will be known as the repudiation of AIPAC in history books. He's the man who lied wolf. Nobody believes him. Plus, in the Defense Authorization Act there is a provision which unifies the IDF with the US military so that Congress need never vote again, but the IDF can simply requisition materiel the same way that any unity of the US military can, and all intelligence will be shared with the Mossad, satellite, intercepts, human, whatever, and any president who denies an Israeli request will be required to give the reason why in writing to Congress within 15 days. So once this bill passes, Congress will never need to vote again.
Did you know that there is exactly one foreign country where the CIA is forbidden to operate? I will give you a hint, it's not one of the "Five Eyes," and the other hint is that you get one guess.
Maybe today we find out that the people who believe that every word of the Old Testament is literally true and that "those who help Israel will be blessed" will carry the day and the Israel Firsters will win the day. There are millions of evangelicals after all. But Trump is sure talking like he doesn't believe it.
Today the people of Philadelphia will vote. Both living and dead. Some of the living will not even known they voted.
Philadelphia will be the last district in the state to report their results. Even cities near Lancaster who have little old ladies counting as they did manually 20 years ago will finish tonight by 10:00. Philly may not finish until Thursday.
It’s a different process in Philly. They have to watch the statewide counts before they know how many votes to manufacture. Then the “counting” starts.
Also protect your asses. All those stupid people who don’t realize they are voting in commies disguised as socialists - they also need to be protected. Overwhelm the stupidity vote. Vote Republican today.
Equity investors would do well to heed Jack's guidance. Constant fretting about this obstacle or that obstacle is no way to invest. Be disciplined and make use of the stock market what a truly fantastic and widely accessible wealth-generating machine we have at our disposal.
Interesting. I just got a breaking news alert that President Trump has announced that the U.S. will halt providing $4 billion in aid each year to Israel starting in 2027 but will sell arms to this ally.
Ah. Now I see someone already noted the announcement re: Israel. Sorry to be duplicative--I rarely comment without having read every previous comment, including the majority of links (though not all) but I didn't this time.
When I was a kid, looking for a job, I took a test to be a diplomat. I got the books from the library, and I started taking the tests. And I was kicking ass. I was scoring really high on the diplomatic tests.
So I'm excited about my new chosen field! And I told my buddy Rob, who was my best friend. "I'm going to apply to be a diplomat."
And he laughed so hard.
I was like, "I'm not joking. What's so funny?"
He was crying, he was laughing so hard. He could not speak. He could not get the words out. "What?" I said.
"Taylor..." he said. He could barely talk. He was crying he was laughing so hard. I had to wait for him to catch a breath. "You are not a diplomat."
Criticizing the Democrats, or the Republicans, does not mean that I hate Americans BTW. But propaganda does not depend very much on logic in its presentation, though logic is strictly adhered to by those who design the deployment of propaganda.
Trump says US will cut off $4B in aid to Israel, blames bad ‘talking point’ ~ The Hill
Quite the plot twist. Trump is now sounding remarkably like Abdul El-Sayed and those other “lunatics” he and his supporters have spent the entire election cycle ridiculing. Apparently, even the most ardent defenders of Israel can eventually discover the appeal of their talking points. Who saw that coming? 🤣
I love the rebranding exercise. A few months ago, these were the talking points of radical lunatics like El-Sayed. Now they're apparently evidence of Trump's political genius. Funny how quickly a bad idea becomes a masterstroke when Trump adopts it. ?
Of course the rest of the world might be sorry to see our umbrella shut down. Europe, Canada, Australia, all these white people hating on Trump and the USA. Okay! The Japanese love us and we have all sorts of friends in South America now. Good luck, Europe. You do you.
““They ethnically cleansed almost a million Jews from Arab countries between 1948–1973. No one talks about that.
But only the Palestinians still claim ‘refugee’ status 78 years later.
When Poland was recreated, 12 million Germans walked back to Germany. Two million died. You don’t see Germans today waving keys to apartments in Danzig screaming ‘I’m a refugee.’
Cypriots lost 40% of their land to Turkey. Jews from Damascus, Cairo, Baghdad, the Gulf — kicked out, property stolen.
None of them still play the eternal refugee card.
Israel left Gaza in 2005 with hundreds of millions in greenhouses and infrastructure. What did they do? Looted it.
Took $40–50 billion in aid… and built rockets and 500 miles of tunnels instead of a real state.
We’re supposed to feel sorry for people who chose this path?”
Joe Rogan yesterday noted that Democrats are always over represented in polling samples because, to put a fine point on it, “only stupid people answer polls.”
That’s why what happens today will not match the polling. There no longer exists a way to obtain random sampling when most voters remove themselves from the sample set.
Blaming "the jooos" for all the things - is propaganda. Leftists cannot take responsibly for their rage fueled mob-D-coordinated murders. The lie-buyers/Jooo blamers -and propagandists still lie about the facts and reality of who killed Charlie Kirk and why. Hint - the same forces who attempted to kill Trump and did kill several of his supporters. For the corrupted blind faith Jooo-blaming left, evidence not needed. Shame on you propagandist/ Canned ass owens/Tuq'r lie-buyers.
Trump has undercut the anti-Zionist hysteria of the left, and now they look like fans of Islamic terrorists. Tell us against how the Muslim Brotherhood needs to be in the U.S. Senate!
I think there's a strong argument that Haley Stevens' endorsement of Mike Rogers was motivated at least partly by personal pique rather than principle.
As recently as August, Stevens warned that Rogers would be "another rubber stamp for Donald Trump's dangerous agenda" and declared that Democrats couldn't afford another MAGA Senate seat. She called Rogers the "worst kind of politician," condemned his record on abortion rights, and described his record on LGBTQ rights as "repulsive."
What changed about any of those concerns between August and November? Not Rogers' positions or his support for Trump. What changed was Stevens' relationship with Abdul El-Sayed, who had defeated her in the primary and whose campaign subsequently asked her not to attend its remaining events. Debbie Dingell also advised Stevens against attending Sunday's unity appearance because the controversy had become a distraction.
As late as Saturday night, Stevens was reportedly assuring Democratic colleagues that she would not endorse Rogers. By Sunday morning, she was appearing alongside him and endorsing his candidacy.
Stevens' concerns about antisemitism certainly deserve to be taken seriously, and she is entitled to conclude that El-Sayed has failed to address them adequately. But that doesn't fully explain why someone she previously portrayed as so dangerous suddenly became an acceptable alternative, or why she chose to make such a consequential endorsement publicly, just two days before the election.
Stevens now describes her decision as a matter of conscience. Perhaps she genuinely concluded that Rogers was the lesser evil. But given her own previous statements, the really extraordinary timing of her reversal, and her apparent difficulty reconciling the two positions, it seems reasonable to suspect that personal resentment in the moment outweighed the political principles she had spent years defending.
A poll doesn't need to reach a random cross-section of voters willing to answer their phones. It needs a defensible method of selecting respondents and accounting for those who don't respond. But assuming polls are wrong because you believe Democrats are overrepresented isn't a statistical argument. It's just an assumption about what the results ought to be.
**There's Newtonian physics and quantum physics.**
There's Einsteinian (general relativistic) physics and quantum physics. Both are empirically great successes. (Recently for GR has been its now verified prediction of the existence of gravitational radiation, for instance, leading to Kip Thorne's 2017 Nobel Prize.)
Newtonian physics for the last more than a century has gone the way of Ptolemaic physics. (Ptolemy's “equations of motion” also got the planets to more or less the right place at the right time.)
As polymath physicist Jacob Bronowski put it: {quoting…}
And yet, and yet, the laws of gravitation have gone. There is no gravitation; there is no force at all; the whole model was wrong. All that theory was no more than a happy approximation to what really happens. When Newton brought in force as a cause, he was giving to matter the human property of effort, as much as Aristotle once gave it human will. The true causes are now embedded in the nature of space and the way in which matter distorts space; and they have no resemblance to the causes in which we believed for nearly three hundred years. {…}
[W]e see now that it is possible to have every human faith in a causal mechanism, every assurance that this is how nature works, that here is her very action laid bare, and every demonstration that some apparent departure really fits in with that cause—we could have all these, unviolated and gaining in strength for two hundred years. And yet at the end we find that the cause was a fiction. Something else was at work, which has nothing in common with that famous cause. The machine never was a copy of nature. It was only a kind of gigantic planetarium, which got the heavenly bodies to the right place at the right time, but whose causal mechanism was no more like nature's than Ptolemy's itself.

“personal resentment in the moment outweighed the political principles she had spent years defending” I don’t think so. You’re portraying her actions in a vacuum. You’re not looking at all the interviews with El Sayed, the revelations of his close ties with people of violence. The problem with Stevens is that as a loyal Democrat she never had to deal with hostile interviewers so she never developed that important skill set. She’ll develop it now.
Several people are gloating over Trump's announcement that Israel will no longer receive foreign aid, though they will still be able to buy the weapons they need.
No one here seems to know what several people on Twitter have reported, that Netanyahu asked for this, because Israel is perfectly capable of paying its own way, and it will (theoretically) take away a favorite talking-point of antisemites on the left and right. (Good luck on that: they'll find new excuses, even if they have to make them up from nothing.)
Even with all the expenses of self-defense, Israel's economy is still growing at 5% a year, expected to be 6% next year, which is way ahead of just about every other country in the world. I've read that they have the 4th-largest GNP per capita in the world for countries with over 10 million people, and that they will pass the Netherlands and Australia in the next couple of years, for 2nd place after the U.S. They're also just about the only technologically-advanced country whose birthrate is above replacement level. In short, they don't need any subsidy.
So Netanyahu gets the credit for the idea, and El-Sayed gets the credit for making it politically inconvenient to ignore. Either way, it’s amusing to watch a talking point go from lunacy to sound policy depending on who’s making it.
It's amusing to see someone pretending that anything has changed except the ignorance of so many talking about something they don't understand. Par for the course for some all-too-frequent commenters.
Interesting. First, the argument is supposedly lunacy; then Trump starts making it; and now anyone noticing the irony is simply ignorant. That’s quite a journey.
The several billions of dollars in annual aid to Israel dates back to Jimmy Carter's negotiated peace treaty between Israel and Egypt (1979, nearly a half century ago), in which large-scale American assistance to both nations was included as a sweetener. After all this time perhaps it is appropriate to terminate that direct aid. It would be interesting to know, though, what's happening to the aid to Egypt.
I don't follow sports news, foreign or domestic, but holy cow:
A Spanish soccer player is being charged with murder for hitting an opponent so hard on the field that the guy died. The fact that the hit happened near mid-field and the killer was the goalie makes it look very premeditated, since he had no right to be anywhere near the scene of the crime. (link)
Somewhere between Netanyahu’s proposal and today’s Fox & Friends appearance, someone apparently decided that the best way to neutralize El-Sayed’s talking point was to give him the very policy outcome he’s been advocating. And on Election Day, no less. Politics does occasionally have a sense of humor.
The more revealing point isn’t who first proposed ending the aid. It’s that Trump himself repeatedly cited the political argument against continuing it as a reason for the decision. That’s considerably more interesting than a lecture about Israel’s GDP.
As usual, IEE needs to bugger off to Blue Sky with his stupid, dishonest pseudo-arguments. There was never any "lunacy" (10:20am) and there is still no "irony" in anything anyone has written here about the ending of U.S. aid to Israel, just ignorance.
It’s been quite an evolution. Not long ago, questioning American military aid to Israel was practically heresy in MAGA circles, and politicians advocating it were routinely dismissed as radical or anti-Israel. Now the same policy is being repackaged as America First, with Trump himself announcing it on Fox News. Apparently, a talking point doesn’t become respectable until the right people start using it. Welcome aboard, MAGA. El-Sayed was apparently ahead of the curve.
Here (link) is the Israeli side of the ending by mutual agreement of the 3.8 billion (not 4 billion) annual aid to Israel. One important point: they were required to spend 90% of that in the U.S. New-found flexibility will make the loss even easier to make up. And I believe this was all decided months ago.
Having mastered epidemiology, toilet-paper supply-chain logistics, bridge engineering, balloon dynamics, mRNA technology, the sociology of Indian Americans, submersible dynamics, maritime law, marine biology, Austrian economic theory, elementary Farsi, Middle Eastern history, LLMs, and the sociopolitics of upscale chain restaurants, Dr. Weevil is ready to tackle his next challenge: unskewing the midterm election polls.
IEE lies like a rug, as the saying goes. I have never expressed any opinion on anything even semi-related to most of the subjects he lists.
I no longer think he should just bugger off to Blue Sky. He really needs to fuck off and die, as the saying goes. He's already got the fucking-off-in-public down pat. That was mildly amusing when Diogenes did it, but 2,400 years have made the action stale and disgusting.
In early Election Day news, Guam just surprised even themselves by electing a Republican governor, and Florida turnout for this midterm election is higher than it was for the presidential election two years ago.
The know-it-all, smartest-guy-in-the-room routine, complete with unsolicited grammatical corrections, is entirely on brand for Dr. Weevil. Wouldn’t expect anything less.
Lying liar pretends he didn't just list a bunch of subjects I've never expressed an opinion on as things I claim expertise on. Why can't he stop lying? All I can say is FOAD, toad.
IEE just deleted his 11:47am comment: "Like I said, you're a piñata." My reply:
As (not "like") I mentioned before, a piñata is filled with delicious treasures, if you can only get at them, which takes some skill.
IEE, the FOAD toad, is the wildly-flailing blindfolded child who never manages to touch the piñata, but injures the teacher and other students with his enthusiastic but pitifully incompetent whacks.
IEE thinks there's something difficult to demonstrating intellectual superiority to him. Like the hero of Idiocracy, fair-to-middling intelligence and general knowledge suffice to make anyone seem brilliant compared to him. And the superiority I claim to him is quite different: I tell the truth, he lies and lies and lies again.
By the way, I just realized why the list of subjects IEE pretends I have claimed expertise in has so little overlap with anything I have ever even commented on: because he DIDN'T WRITE THE LIST. Whether he copied it with permission from his paymaster, or without permission from someone on Twitter or another blog doesn't matter: it's either a talking point, or plagiarism, but it's definitely copied. And whoever wrote it was talking about a familiar type on Twitter, often mocked with the cartoon of the white-haired man with the shit-eating grin.
In other non-electoral news, Russia has announced (just in time for Christmas) that Ministry of Defense employees will get their December paycheck in January. Many provinces have also reduced the death benefits for soldiers killed in battle by 90%, or canceled them altogether. A bitter disappointment for the many wives who were hoping to trade in a disappointing husband for a new car.
Collapse and break-up of the Evil Empire, and withdrawal from Ukraine, may be closer than many think.
Amusing Tweet by Eric W. on the Guam governor's race mentioned above (link):
"Red wave? Guam's Governor Race has led to a win for Tony Ada, a Republican. In 2022, Guam went Democrat by 11. Now, while this is a 'flip', it is important to note that Guam did not literally flip over or capsize. CC: Rep. Hank Johnson, notoriously concerned about Guamese flips."
P.S. I believe the word is "Guamanian", not "Guamese". At least that's what the Guamanians I went to high school with said.
For those who were objecting to my claim that contemporary polls are worthless:
The Democrat who just lost his bid for reelection as Governor of Guam by ~2 points was up 23 points in the polls just a few days ago (link). As the linked Tweeter says: "Food for thought."
And here's an on-the-job poll-worker in Minnesota wearing a shirt that celebrates the murder of Charlie Kirk ("problem solved" + fake blood stains around neck); link.
Apparently, the new standard for evaluating polling is to find the least credible poll that gets the result you want and treat it as confirmation of everything you already believed.
The poll was conducted by Pasquines, October 15–28. It showed Democrat Therese Terlaje leading Republican Tony Ada, 57.9% to 35.4% — a 22.5-point margin. https://pasquines.us/2026/10/29/terlaje-and-limtiaco-lead-pasquines-poll-in-guams-governor-and-delegate-races/
Most importantly, this was an opt-in online poll with just 30 registered voters, not a conventional random-sample poll. The respondents were weighted according to their reported vote in the 2022 gubernatorial election.
Its failure tells us very little about the accuracy of professional polling, much less whether national polls are systematically underestimating Republicans. You cannot use one bad poll to establish that polling as a whole is systematically biased.
We shall soon see whether the "professional" polls do any better. Some of us remember that four of the "professional" polls have shut down just this year after admitting to fixing their numbers. As I recall, all four were skewed left.
By the way, what did the "professional" polls predict about the Guam governor's race? Were there any, or was the unprofessional one the only one? And most important, did people believe the unprofessional one, as many believed the four fraudulent ones? IEE doesn't know, and doesn't care, and is only scoring pseudo-points for his paymaster.
Eva Marie, that's a fair point. I agree that Stevens had legitimate reasons to be concerned about certain associations of El-Sayed and inflammatory rhetoric surrounding his campaign. And you're right that her difficulty explaining herself in interviews doesn't necessarily mean her decision was unprincipled.
But the new CNN reporting raises additional questions. Former Michigan governor Jim Blanchard says that as late as Friday evening, Stevens was still committed to supporting El-Sayed, while her fiancé, Jason Turkish, was pressing her about how disappointed her supporters were in that endorsement. She reportedly continued assuring Democratic colleagues Saturday night that she wouldn't endorse Rogers. By Sunday morning, she had reversed herself.
None of that proves she acted out of resentment or that Turkish made the decision for her. But it does suggest that personal considerations may have played a role alongside her genuine objections to El-Sayed.
And I still think there's an important distinction between deciding El-Sayed is unacceptable and publicly endorsing Rogers, whom Stevens had so recently described as a dangerous supporter of Trump's agenda. She could have declined to endorse either candidate. That would have been a less consequential way of expressing her objections to El-Sayed.
Perhaps her decision really was a matter of conscience. But the extraordinary timing and circumstances make me reluctant to dismiss the possibility that personal resentment contributed to it.

RIP Donnie Iris.

YouTube: "Amélie" (2001) Analysis on the French movie 'Amélie' is on my list of favorite movies.
It's cold out. Let me in. May I stay?
"Of course, like all NGOs, these were more interested in spending money..."
You misspelled "stealing".

Thanks, Republicans.

God bless Spencer Pratt!
Don’t let Navarro near a dairy farm. They sell milk by the pound. That’ll really confuse her.
Demon: "I think it's Muslim Brotherhood."
Satan: "The fuck I care!"
Demon: "Right, right. Sorry."
Demon: "Okay, I will try."
Satan whispers in your ear and the Holy Spirit whispers in your ear and you got to put on your thinking cap and figure out who is who and what is what.
I got a little of this from C.S. Lewis. I used to think Satan was a joke.
Why did James Carville describe Haley Stevens as a used condominium? For shock value? For laughs? Does it not reflect on our society as a whole that all the major media played the quote?
We are not the right path. I’m not sure a correction is possible.

It's likely going to be quite the ride today, so I've fastened my seatbelt.

Oops! Another cell phone ping... .

Interesting. I just got a breaking news alert that President Trump has announced that the U.S. will halt providing $4 billion in aid each year to Israel starting in 2027 but will sell arms to this ally.
What other foreign aid will he announce an end to? Trump works at angles that make predictions difficult.

Some things are so nice, they need to be said twice.
That's a symbolic gesture, pretty smart move I guess.
November surprise, designed to stop the Muslim Brotherhood in the USA.
The Democrat normalization of Islamic terrorism is way more dangerous to Israel than loss of foreign aid.
Trump is a master at politics. He has really learned this game.
You do you.

Looted it.

Democrats are a Death Cult. Vote Republican!
Joe Rogan yesterday noted that Democrats are always over represented in polling samples because, to put a fine point on it, “only stupid people answer polls.”
That’s why what happens today will not match the polling. There no longer exists a way to obtain random sampling when most voters remove themselves from the sample set.

Brought forward from an earlier thread…
**There's Newtonian physics and quantum physics.**
There's Einsteinian (general relativistic) physics and quantum physics. Both are empirically great successes. (Recently for GR has been its now verified prediction of the existence of gravitational radiation, for instance, leading to Kip Thorne's 2017 Nobel Prize.)
Newtonian physics for the last more than a century has gone the way of Ptolemaic physics. (Ptolemy's “equations of motion” also got the planets to more or less the right place at the right time.)
As polymath physicist Jacob Bronowski put it: {quoting…}
And yet, and yet, the laws of gravitation have gone. There is no gravitation; there is no force at all; the whole model was wrong. All that theory was no more than a happy approximation to what really happens. When Newton brought in force as a cause, he was giving to matter the human property of effort, as much as Aristotle once gave it human will. The true causes are now embedded in the nature of space and the way in which matter distorts space; and they have no resemblance to the causes in which we believed for nearly three hundred years. {…}
[W]e see now that it is possible to have every human faith in a causal mechanism, every assurance that this is how nature works, that here is her very action laid bare, and every demonstration that some apparent departure really fits in with that cause—we could have all these, unviolated and gaining in strength for two hundred years.

Can we all agree that Ro Khanna (D-Ca) is a walking/talking anus.
“personal resentment in the moment outweighed the political principles she had spent years defending”
I don’t think so.
Life is too short to read IEE’s posts.
El-Sayed was apparently ahead of the curve.
rich posts as if ignorance were SNAP benefits.
Nothing says Dr. Weevil quite like an irresistible urge to demonstrate intellectual superiority. A compulsion as predictable as it is entertaining.
On a more positive note, here's a mildly offensive joke for Election Day:
Q. What is every Japanese woman's favorite holiday?
A. Erection Day!
Look at you go 😂
That’s quite an elaborate way of saying, “I’m smarter than you because I say so.” The self-awareness deficit is almost as impressive as the ego.
No, FOAD toad, I'm smarter than you because I write my own comments, and you copy at least some of yours.
