I'm reading "Threats, Gaffes and Men’s Posteriors: Trump’s Talk Gets Wilder/A Times review of the president’s public speeches finds that he is more profane, more absolutist, longer-winded and less coherent than he was in 2016" (NYT).
The Times review from 2015 through Thursday found that the president in his second term has used 19 percent more all-or-nothing words like “always,” “never,” “everything” and “totally” at rallies than he did a decade ago and 5 percent more than in 2024, a sign of black-and-white thinking that experts say often accompanies advancing age or cognitive decline.
Experts say!
He is cruder than he used to be, using nearly 15 swear words per 10,000 words compared with 14 two years ago and six a decade ago, a change consistent with age-related disinhibition....
I wonder if this sort of vaguely medical speculation is itself a sign of advancing age/cognitive decline/age-related disinhibition.
His vocabulary remains about the same, as does the reading level of his speaking, which hovers between fourth and fifth grade. (The average modern president speaks at an eighth-grade level.)...
Where there's no decline, be assured that he was always already low.
Wishing and hoping and thinking and praying, planning and dreaming....These days, even Mr. Trump seems aware that eyes are on him, watching and waiting.
“I love the weave,” he told the midterm Republican convention in Dallas in September. “You know what the weave is? You talk about something, then you bring in a ballroom or you bring in an airplane or you bring in Air Force One. But you notice I always get right back to the same topic.” And yet, he went on, “when someday, there’ll be a time when I do the weave is weave, weave. Someday, there’ll be a time when I don’t get back to the original subject, and then you can say he’s had it. OK? You can say then he’s had it.”

Dammit! I knew I should have voted for Kamala - just for the superior coherence, if nothing else.
What? The NYT didn't compare Trump to Biden?
I was expecting them to say just the opposite. I also sold all my stock in April 2025 when they told me the tariffs destroyed America's future. Thank you NYT.
All that money and he still can't buy the respect he craves. Sad.
They can’t believe they’re losing to that guy..:
Public rhetoric in general has become much more crude in the last decade. Many dems are constantly dropping F-bombs.
Imagine the profanity filled tirade Trump will unleash in 2028 when the AOC/Hasan Piker ticket wins the Presidency.
NYT back to being NYT. (D)
LOL.
All that money and the NYT still can't hire a journalist.
The NYT(D) corrupt fascist left want to dismantle everything and insert a one-party state.
But Trump!
That was a strange video.
Agree with the NYT.
The talk about male and female asses is just ridiculous; even though it is kind of funny.
My theory is that all this crazy talk from Trump is paving the way for the smooth talk from Rubio and Vance; Marco in particular.
There could be a Bacharach/David tag here for that Dusty Springfield song. One of her last offerings was a song that Richard Carpenter wrote for Karen, which she never lived to perform.
I'm watching the Texas Senate race most closely. It will be a poetic justice if Talarico beats Paxton in Texas. Texas was a gimme for the GOP until Trump attacked John Cornyn out of a personal pique.
..tha butt talk resonates with a big potion of the electorate, especially important voting blocks…
"The reading level of his speaking"? Isn't that essentially vocabulary -- or maybe syntax?
Cutting back on Latinate words makes you cruder.
AI: Vocabulary and Diction: Refers to individual words or styles of writing that come from Latin roots rather than Germanic or Old English roots. For example, using suspend (Latinate) instead of hang (Anglo-Saxon), or residence instead of home.
Reading level tells you if you're too much into academic cliches. Best level for writing is about 8th grade. Bad writers are up in 13th grade.
"My theory is that all this crazy talk from Trump is paving the way for the smooth talk from Rubio and Vance; Marco in particular."
Not a big fan of Occam's Razor, are you?
"Public rhetoric in general has become much more crude in the last decade. Many dems are constantly dropping F-bombs."
And Trump's crudity has nothing to do with it?
"Best level for writing is about 8th grade. Bad writers are up in 13th grade."
Are you helping edit the Newspeak Dictionary?
IEE: “All that money and he still can't buy the respect he craves. Sad.” Trump doesn’t crave respect from Democrat voters. Trump understands TDS. People afflicted with it don’t. Conservatives look at people whose hatred for Trump blinds them to the destruction of our cities, our economy, our children and our borders as deluded enablers of the Marxists, Islamists and fruitcakes bent on destabilizing the Republic.
"He is cruder than he used to be, using nearly 15 swear words per 10,000 words compared with 14 two years ago and six a decade ago, a change consistent with age-related disinhibition...."
ONE more swear word per 10,000. Well, that's a statistically significant indicator of age-related disinhibition.
Now let's do a comparison of the writing in the NYT from 2015 (or 1995) till now. Start with opinion in news stories; compare adjectives describing politicians or other public figures depending on whether they are from the right or the left; compare placement and coverage of news that damages Democrats versus Republicans
Freder: “And Trump's crudity has nothing to do with [Democrats dropping F-bombs]? Right! It’s Trump’s fault. Is there any wrong he can’t do to mindless Democrats and their useful idiots?
NYeT publishes damage control.
Once we’re past the midterms, win or lose, he’ll have no further use for political circumspection. If you’re dismayed by Trump 2.0, brace yourself for Trump Unchained!

What we’re seeing here in Trump is the psychotic break of a narcissist’s ego protection mechanism going into overdrive. He is no longer able to reject and deflect the truths about his failures and lack of popularity, so his ego -- his hollow, disfigured, fragile self -- is starting to shatter entirely.
I don't remember all this NYT's analysis of the POTUS when Biden was in office. Of course, Biden was in Tip-top condition. He was so on top of his game, he didn't need to take unscreened questions from the press. Why bother? Biden was too sharp for them. LOL.
And profanity? Give me a break. Nothing is more foul-mouthed than the Liberal/left. Fuck this, fuck that. The only words that are verboten to them are Merry Christmas, and AD and BC.

LOL he is just talking to himself now.
90 IQ retards have a tough time with reality.
I wonder how Joe Biden is doing? Maybe the NYT could investigate that. How dishonest and devious was our former president? Maybe the Democrats would not be stuck with Trump today if all the Democrat voters who thought Joe Biden ought not to run again were heard by the Democrat media that was trying to hide the decline. What was the lesson of 2024?
“We failed to attack Trump enough!”
Or is the actual lesson
“Our bias is causing us to miss the truth and our voters might abandon us if we can’t be more honest with them.”

Biden voters are dumber than Joe Biden.
They are too stupid to analyze Trump themselves now. They need AI to do it for them.
The Times article is interesting. It’s additive to show Donald Trump’s speeches have become much longer, more colorful, and more wandering since 2016. It’s intriguing that things haven’t shifted much since 2024. That seems to complicate a story about cognitive decline.
I’m not sure the article is helpful in helping us distinguish cognitive changes from deliberate teasing or Trump’s usual style. Given his age and his father’s dementia, Trump’s bolder comments could mix all three, but the details shared by The New York Times don’t quite help us tell them apart or even establish if there has been cognitive decline.
It’s a positive to have this information but whatever the reason behind the changes that Freedman and Baker have quantified in Trump’s behavior, we’ll have to keep searching to see what, if anything, his more “open" language shows about his judgment and self-control as president.
If we’re listening to AI investigators, why do we need to pay for NYT journalism? Is AI trustworthy, or does it tell you what you want to hear?
"It’s intriguing that things haven’t shifted much since 2024."
Trump was running for president in 2024. He's not running anymore. But you're right, not much of a shift.
It's too soon after the Biden Presidency, for the NYT to be doing solid, investigative reporting about Trump's mental decline.......The early Bolsheviks were smart people. They rejected Trotsky because they thought he was too smart--he was the Bonaparte in their midst. They embraced Stalin because he he looked steady, reliable and mediocre. He was the one to guide the revolution without going off on egocentric adventures. While it was true that Stalin wasn't Napoleon, he was definitely Stalin and quite brilliant. Smart people have rigid parameters to define intelligence. The parameters usually define people that look like them.........Lincoln's language was shaped by Shakespeare and the King James Bible Trump's language was shaped by Jerry Springer and reality tv shows. It's not poetry, but he communicates.
Strange, but the same can be said for the NYT
There's never been anyone like Trump as President before, and no one like him will ever come after. I won't be around to see posterity, but to my mind he has some solid accomplishments. One of his greatest is the way he outrages reporters from NYT. I hope on his last day in office, he invites them to the Oval Office and moons them.
Mental illness and decline manifests itself in many different ways.
In Biden it was the stumbling, bumbling, incoherence.
In Trump it is the complete loss of any filter or ability to self-regulate.
Both occupied the office of president when mentally unfit to do so.
Their enablers are culpable.
“he is more profane, more absolutist, longer-winded and less coherent than he was in 2016”
You say that like it’s a *bad* thing.
They've never forgiven Trump for being from Queens and not being ashamed of it. And they've never stopped playing Margaret Dumont roles, with one crucial difference - Margaret Dumont was in on the joke.
"I won't be around to see posterity, but to my mind he has some solid accomplishments. One of his greatest is the way he outrages reporters from NYT."
Yep, in 50 years thats really going to stand as quite the accomplishment.
Too bad Trump never showed reporters his junk like LBJ did. I guess all the comments on candidates asses is the best he can do.

Comment made me curious about vid. Typical old days lip sync but the words are pretty good advice.
Anyone else watching the live press conference in Michigan with Stevens and Rodgers in which she’s endorsing him and planning to vote for him and getting vying reasons why?
Sorry! Thick thumbs on phone. “Giving reasons…
People forget that Biden as VP would swim naked in front of female Secret Service agents.
'Trump is doing something bizarre, outrageous and anti-social ! We don't understand it, but it's bad and it's getting worse !
Must be an election coming up.
“Joe Biden is sharp as a tack”
I quote that not in the spirit of neener- neener, but as an example of how, once you’ve mired yourself in gob-smacking absurdity, it is unreasonable that you expect to ever be taken seriously again. You supported flooding the country with ten million illegal aliens in a few short years? Nothing you say about immigration enforcement is of any consequence. You want men in women’s sports and you’re an eager apologist for Islamists? Nothing you have to say regarding feminism can be taken seriously. You squawk about but “defending democracy” but oppose the most basic forms of election integrity? You clearly don’t believe in democracy at all.
"Men's posteriors"? Before Freud, men weren't always policing themselves for signs of gayness. Think of the Union general in "Gettysburg" pining for his good Confederate friend Armistead. There were laws against certain sexual practices, but less hesitation about saying some things. Even after Freud -- take a look at Harold Bloom's recently published letters. No way was he gay, but it wouldn't be hard to come to that conclusion.
The writer of the novel "Gettysburg" was based on and the film's director played with another taboo in "Gods and Generals" with the relationship of Stonewall Jackson and a little girl. Nothing sexual was involved, but moderns would have kept Stonewall far from schools and playgrounds.
Remember when Biden just had "a stutter"? 😉
Trump is clearly "sharp as a tack." It's just the "weave" and he is so good at it and getting better at it!
History has a way of repeating itself in the very most retarded ways imaginable.
(How's our war in the Middle East going?)
"I'm watching the Texas Senate race most closely. It will be a poetic justice if Talarico beats Paxton in Texas. Texas was a gimme for the GOP until Trump attacked John Cornyn out of a personal pique."
Do you care about what actually happens to this country as a result of this election, or it all just about being on the winning team that interests you?
“ I wonder how Joe Biden is doing? ”
What? Joe Biden died of stage 11 prostate cancer just after he left office, it was all over the news.
A more serious investigation into whether Trump's use of coarse language signals cognitive decline would probably not focus on his rally appearances, where he's both obviously trying to be edgy. If they interviewed people who've been in meetings with Trump over the years, would THEY say that his communication style has become more crude?
"Margaret Dumont was in on the joke."
There's some question about that, at least according to Groucho.
“Short words are best, and the old words, when short, are best of all.” — Churchill (a sentence using only words of one syllable).
Dogman
Some of the ad libbing might have thrown her, but she knew why she was there. She knew she was the straight man.
Hey, the NYT made excuses for Stalin and the Nazis, as well.
I’m sure they can find it in their hearts to excuse some coarse words.
As I have nothing better to do at the moment, I am wondering if IEE is Chuck or Inga in a new guise.
How's this for an Occamite explanation: Getting shot, almost killed, prosecuted, almost sent to prison for an effectively life sentence, etc, can really increase a man's profanity stats.
And having loyal fans who still show up for your rallies after all that turns the rallies from scripted performances into meandering discourses because you're so comfortable among friends.
Finally, knowing that the newsies asking you stupid questions are tools of the people who prosecuted and tried to kill you, makes you lose respect for them and just talk to them worse than you would to a misbehaving pet. CC, JSM
Trump can read a scripted speech just as well as any other politician. Much better than Joe or Kamala.
Most of the time, he chooses not to.
Has any modern politician ever spoken more public, unscripted words than Donald Trump? He speaks for hours at rallies on a daily basis. He speaks to gaggles of reporters on his plane, during public events, at the heliport, everywhere.
*And Trump's crudity has nothing to do with it?*
"This is a big fucking deal." - Not Trump
"He speaks for hours at rallies on a daily basis. He speaks to gaggles of reporters on his plane, during public events, at the heliport, everywhere."
The left insists that's dementia.
Inga has always been Inga and has no sock puppet.
RCOcean2 is played by two people, I suspect, one of them is supposed to be a Christian who pretends to like the Jews but hates Zionists. The other one hates Jews around the world.
*It will be a poetic justice if Talarico beats Paxton in Texas. Texas was a gimme for the GOP until Trump attacked John Cornyn out of a personal pique."*
It takes a special kind of stupid to blame Trump because Texas primary voters - by nearly a 2-1 margin - had had enough of Cornyn's bullshit.
NYT begins to set the agenda for the Democrat controlled Congress and Trump's final two years.
Margeret Dumont had been doing comedy and musical comedy on Broadway since 1908 and did the film "Animal Crackers" with the Marx Brothers in 1929. Yes, I suppose its possible that she "didn't get the joke". But then maybe the joke wasn't funny. A lot of the Marx brothers (I'm looking at you Harpo) isnt funny.
Or maybe Grouncho was just an asshole who didn't want to give his straightman any credit.
Democrat Party members who have been swearing like sailors, laughing about Charlie Kirk's murder, defending Shoot 'em In The Back Luigi, and fantasizing about shooting Republican's children while plotting to harass and intimidate young Republicans, assassinate Trump, arrest, imprison, and murder political opponents are very distressed by the President's vulgarity.
Noted. Also, GFY's.
