It's funny to watch lefties discover that in fact there's NO such thing as a principled lefty.

You have to be a decent and worthwhile human being to have principles. And that's pretty much impossible to accomplish on the Left, because the Left is only about obtaining and using political power, not actually making teh world a better place.

I didn't see any "country over party' rhetoric from her. She missed a big chance.

Maybe she didn't go that route, because D's aren't as stupid as R's. The Democrat know that's all bullshit, and they want to know the *real* reason, she's turning their back on all her previous campaign rhetoric.

You'll notice that when Mittens swtiched from 2016 Never Trumper, we need to throw the election to Hillary cause "Country over Party", to 2018 "Yeah Trumps nots so bad" nobody said boo about it. That's because R's are dumb. They even gave him a Senate seat.

By abandoning El-Sayed less than 48 hours before Election Day, Stevens has reinforced the perception that her political loyalties lie more with the pro-Israel lobby’s foreign-policy priorities than with her state, her party, or her constituents. Critics have long pointed to the roughly $30 million in support from an AIPAC-affiliated super PAC during her primary campaign.

Stevens may try to dismiss the fallout as a “private decision,” but the political damage is anything but private. Her apparent capitulation has put her career in jeopardy, all for a moment of notoriety that has been widely ridiculed. And now, many are pointing fingers at her fiancée as the driving force behind the decision.

Indefinitely Extended Excursion™️ చెప్పారు...

The Rebellion PAC ad referred to by Stevens was not produced by the El-Sayed campaign. It was not authorized by the El-Sayed campaign. The total amount of the digital ad spend associated with the ad was a whopping $5,000 in the context of an election where there has been over $100 million spent.

Stevens and the Israel lobby used the ad as a pretext for her endorsement. The irony is that they probably called more attention to the ad than it would have otherwise received.

Stevens' fiancé had already backed Rogers.

What is actually going on is that El-Sayed is winning the election and the Israel lobby and Republicans are desperate for him to lose. This is a desperate last minute gambit to try to change the dynamic of the race. The initial indications suggest that late deciding voters are breaking towards El-Sayed, which suggests that voters see the act for what it is.

Stevens' career is over but she's found a rich husband.

As noted above -- universal condemnation of the endorsement from Democratic officials and members of Congress. Key members of Stevens' house staff resigned after this announcement.

This is not a division within the Democratic Party. This is the decision by a political opportunist to torch her relationship with a political party that had supported her, after she lost a party primary.

It should be noted that Stevens, a Christian evangelical, was recruited by the Israel lobby back in 2022 to primary a Jewish-American Democratic House member simply because the member had been critical of the Netanyahu government and had defended a Palestinian-American colleague. Unfortunately for the lobby, Stevens is very typical of the kind of low-rent, highly unethical opportunists who are willing to work with the lobby these days.

The genocide supporters in America today are those who support Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Iran. Those are the groups who openly boast of wanting to kill every man, woman, and child among their enemies, the Jews, and try to do so whenever they get a chance. They also rape, mutilate, and torture their victims, and starve their hostages underground for months at a stretch, raping the woman, too. Anyone who thinks we should cut off military aid to Israel, especially totally defensive weapons like Iron Dome, or allow the mullahs to stay in power in Iran, supports these attempts at genocide.

It's only a day or two since I linked to a Tweet pointing out that those who died in Gaza were less than 2% of the women, 6% of the men, and 100% of the Hamas generals who planned the October 7th massacres. The Tweeter suggested that what Israel has done is therefore not genocide but "generalocide", and he's right.

You can fairly argue that Israel's response has been disproportionate and may, in the long run, create more enemies than it kills. You cannot, however, argue that it is "genocidal". Saddam and Assad killed people under their control at a far greater rate than anything that's happened in Gaza.......I explicitly ask DD Driver why Assad and Saddam were described as tyrannial but never as genocidal.

Dr Weevil చెప్పారు...

I am NOT "literally describing both sides". Israel does not keep hostages: Muslims in Israeli jails are there for killing, or trying to kill, Israelis, often women and children, not for attending a music festival too close to the border.

And Israelis protect women and children and old people in bomb shelters when the missiles and drones are falling, while Hamas and Hezbollah build tunnels for themselves, and lock out the women and children and old people.

Note: 20-30 years ago Palestinians were complaining that Israeli soldiers don't rape Palestinian women, and accusing them of thinking Arab women are ugly. It didn't seem to occur to them that not raping women might be a matter of common decency and military discipline.

The thousands of Bund supporters who went to pro-Hitler rallies at Madison Square Garden later showed up at recruiting offices and went off to war for the American side. The Italian barber who had a Mussolini poster in his shop, also later did his part for the war effort.......A lot of Americans have divided loyalties but in the end they come down on the side of America. Honestly, I just don't have the same confidence in El Sayed. It's not a complicated moral decision whether or not to be more in favor of Israel than Hamas.

Dr Weevil చెప్పారు...

Hasn't the "NYT exposé" been shown to be propagandistic bullshit, based on anonymous sources who may or may not even be ex-soldiers? And haven't the few genuine cases of sexual abuse of prisoners been prosecuted and the abusers jailed? Has any resident of Gaza ever so much as criticized the rapes and tortures on October 7th and other dates? Again, both sides are NOT the same.

As for being in prison without charges: Prisoners of war are generally not charged as criminals, and it's perfectly legal to keep them in prison until the end of hostilities. Are any Palestinians being kept in Israeli prisons without charges who were not caught in the act of making war on Israel, or committing terrorist acts against Israel?

imTay చెప్పారు...

"the few genuine cases of sexual abuse of prisoners been prosecuted and the abusers jailed? "

From Grok, you could have looked this up yourself:

****
What happened
In July 2024, a Palestinian detainee from Gaza was allegedly severely abused. He suffered injuries including broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a rectal tear that required surgery. Medical staff at the facility described the injuries as serious.
Leaked CCTV footage (aired by Israeli Channel 12) showed soldiers surrounding the detainee with riot shields, obscuring most of the action. Some reports and outlets described this as a gang rape or sexual assault involving a sharp object inserted near the rectum. The soldiers denied the allegations.
Nine soldiers were initially questioned. Five were later indicted (in early 2025) for aggravated/severe abuse and causing serious bodily harm. The formal charges focused on violence and the rectal injury rather than a standalone “rape” count in the military indictment, though the sexual nature of the alleged assault was widely reported.
Dropping of charges on procedural groundsIn March 2026, the new Military Advocate General (Maj. Gen. Itai Ofir) withdrew all charges against the five soldiers. The stated reasons included:
Complexity and limitations of the evidence (the video was not fully conclusive because shields blocked the view; there were differing accounts).
Exceptional circumstances that undermined a fair trial, including the improper leak of the footage by the previous Military Advocate General (Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi), who later resigned and faced investigation.
Procedural difficulties transferring investigative material from police.
The detainee’s release back to Gaza in October 2025 (as part of a hostage/ceasefire deal), making him unavailable to testify or be cross-examined.
Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, welcomed the decision and described the soldiers as “heroic.” Human rights groups criticized it as granting impunity for abuse of Palestinian detainees. This matches the elements in your question (IDF soldiers accused in connection with a gang-rape/sexual abuse allegation involving a prisoner/detainee, with charges dropped on procedural/fair-trial grounds). Broader reports of abuse (including sexual violence claims) at Sde Teiman and other facilities exist from human rights organizations and media, but this was the high-profile case with the leaked video, arrests, indictment, and later dismissal.
***

I like the part about how his mistreatment was "alleged" and yet he required surgery to repair his rectum.

Dr Weevil చెప్పారు...

And yet they were prosecuted, unlike any Hamas or Hezbollah rapist ever, and released (like many American criminals) because of prosecutorial misconduct, and the head prosecutor had to resign. Deeply disappointing, but again, nothing like the gleeful, openly celebrated rapes committed by Hamas.

Note also that I wrote "few" and you came up with one case. Again, the two sides are NOT the same.

Mike (MJB Wolf) చెప్పారు...

• Switching to Republicans: When politicians switch from Democrat to Republican—such as New Jersey Representative Jeff Van Drew in 2019 or Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson in 2023—left-leaning or mainstream coverage often focuses on political opportunism, backlash from their original base, or the specific political pressures they faced.

For those complaining that she didn't speak all that eloquently about her endorsement of Rogers: she is undoubtedly feeling quite conflicted about being forced by her conscience to do something she didn't really want to do, and knew would get her a lot of hatred from former friends. One very big reason why Haley Stevens isn't getting any "Country over party" awards is because Haley Stevens, given a whole day to think about it, cannot come up with any remotely sensible explanation as to exactly HOW her decision puts "country over party."
There is no policy reason -- none -- that would explain it, because Stevens is on record in countlessly elaborate ways, absolutely flaming Mike Rogers' policy stances.

So fuck all of that. There's no good policy reason that explains Stevens.

Then there's the "hosility and hatred" argument. But that doesn't work very well. Rogers' campaign, in which he has drawn in Detroit's infamous Pastor Lorenzo Sewell (a completely insane Islamophobic Detroit nondenominational pastor vaguely associated with Fox news, who's done rallies with white supremacist Jake Lang) into his campaign apparatus as a "Faith Adviser."

Anderson Cooper gave her a chance to explain herself on CNN last night and she spontaneously cumbusted.

That is because your jooooo hatred is making you stupid.

Everyone in the Middle East hates Hamas and the Gazans. Other countries have killed more Palestinians than the Jews.

But you hate the jooooosss so you pretend to not understand simple things.

Hamas and everyone that supports them needs to be killed publicly and brutally. They purposefully and deliberately get children killed so that joooo haters like you will support them.

No Israeli seriously supports "wiping out" the Gazans, even if some say so when angry. All Gazans who are able to express their opinions support wiping out Israel, men, women, and children, and don't mind raping and torturing them while they're at it. (At least one Gazan filmed himself on October 7th raping a woman, shooting her in the head in mid-act, and continuing to screw her still-warm corpse until he was satisfied.) Hamas murders any Gazan who publicly expresses doubts about Hamas' program, or about their right to rule forever without elections. They've killed, tortured, and raped hundreds of their fellow Gazans, and are widely hated even by those who share their goal of obliterating Israel.

As for Lindsey Graham, he supported killing the Russians who, very much like Hamas, are killing, raping, torturing, and mutilating civilians in Ukraine - also stealing their toilets, burning Ukrainian-language books, and beating anyone heard speaking Ukrainian. Just in the last 24 hours, they hit a school being used to distribute aid with 9 bombs/drones/missiles (I forget which), killing 28 civilians so far (there are more buried in the rubble), including 2 firemen and 4 policemen with their usual "double-tap". People who do that very much deserve to die before their time, and violently.

I don't believe Graham ever proposed anything resembling genocide in either country.

Fortunately it was old enough not to trigger the gift tax.)

The main reason I would never have bought one, besides not wanting to be associated with other Prius drivers, is the price. Someone once calculated that a Prius is only a good deal if the price of gas is over $5 the whole time you own it, and that calculation was quite a few years ago, so the number is probably $7 or $8 now.

However, if someone else buys it and gives it to you, it's an excellent car. Good mileage, rarely breaks down, a hatchback that will fit all but 4-5 pieces of furniture I own. What's not to like? (Other than having to come up with $5,000+ for a new main battery one of these days.)

And by "wage war", I mean "kill them by the hundreds of thousands until they unconditionally surrender."

The Palestinians have NO legitimate claims, just as the German have no legitimate claims on the land they lost after starting and losing WWI and WWII.

What Israel should do is bomb them into submission, and re-bomb them ANY time they try to fight back.

That they're too stupid to do that is one of the best arguments against the intelligence of the Jews.

But there's NO argument for the Palestinians. They started a war for land, and lost. When that happens, you lose land. And when you do it repeatedly, you lose any right to any land at all.

“God, I wanted to vote for him, but he just kind of said ‘Forget it,’ ” [Stevens] said about his perceived indifference to her coalition, which includes many—if not the majority—of Jewish voters.

And the rest of the story, we know.

Another Democrat, Karen Whitsett, pledges her support to Collins.

She's in the state house, so not a big name. I doubt very much the Democrats will punish her. The Jewish vote totals are pretty tiny. They're going after Haley hard to scare the money people. ("We can do this to you, too, and mess up your business and your life if you go against the party").

African-Americans don't have financial power in the Democrat party. They have voter power. If they don't vote for Talarico, he's out. If they don't vote for El-Sayed, no prayer. So no "public example" is going to be made on this woman. If black Democrats were appalled by this, they would speak out. I gather they're not appalled.

A joke (or maybe it's a Zen koan) a classmate told me in college 50+ years ago:

A man goes to the Circus and the Clown points at him in the crowd and says "Are you a horse?" ("No.") "Are you an ass?" ("No.") "Then you must be a horse's ass!" Everyone laughs, and the guy is humiliated, and decides he'll spend anything it takes to get his revenge. He signs up for an enormously expensive 10-month course in "How to deal with insults effectively" and passes with flying colors.

A year later, the Circus comes back to town, he sits in the same seat, and the same Clown picks on him again: "Are you a horse?" ("No.") "Are you an ass?" ("No.") "Then you must be a horse's ass!" Displaying everything he learned in his course, he stands up and says "FUCK YOU!".

Sometimes that is the correct response to people like the Clown - and some commenters here.

Dr Weevil at 5:40. Hamas infuriates me. My point is not to defend Hamas. My point was merely that we should not murder, kidnap, or rape innocent people, thereby mimicking Hamas.

Point taken.

In fact, let's recall that the RNC voted to censure Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger at one of their annual meetings. Ten different Wyoming county GOP committees censured her. The central committee of the Wyoming Republican Party also voted to censure Liz, and in a second vote declared that they would no longer recognize her as a Repubican.

Saint Croix:
Fair enough. I was responding to the popular idea that Israel started it, and the Palestinians are only responding in kind.

Saint Croix చెప్పారు...

Dr. Weevil, cool

I'm embarrassed to say I thought Haley Stevens was Jewish. She's not.

Big Mike, thanks for that tip.

Saint Croix చెప్పారు...

I was responding to the popular idea that Israel started it

That's not a popular idea. That's a media-generated idea, a bit of disgusting propaganda. If people believe it, it's because they believe in the media. Or their university professor. This is an idea that was bought by oil money and socialist politics. The vast majority of Americans were appalled by October 7. We saw it as an attack on innocents from out of the blue. I still see it that way. But I'm not in school getting indoctrinated by authorities. We're dealing with an anti-Semitism that was taught at university.

Saint Croix చెప్పారు...

Most Americans still see October 7 as very similar to September 11.

She's not, but her fiance is Jewish, and she is reportedly contemplating conversion.

During the Michigan primaries this summer, Obama appeared with Stevens and touted the (minor) part she played as a member of Obama's Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry in 2009. I guess that endorsement didn't age well.

I thought she was going to speak out against Muslim Brotherhood and that interview went in a whole different direction. She sounds like a party-switcher.

Chuck has nothing to say about whether Republicans threw Murkowski out of the party after she endorsed a Democrat for governor. Republicans didn't. Chuck and his friends want to murder the woman that they call "worth less than a used condom." Chuck must be so, so proud of how Democrats treat women, right? just like how Democrats treat black people who don't vote the way Democrats tell them to. It's immediately Democrat party, circa 1857!

If you look at the RCP polls Rodgers has a problem. He rarely breaks 45-46 percent, which is what Republican Senate Candidates usually get in Michagan - even in a good year. Spencer Abraham was the Last R Senator elected - and that was in 1994. And he considered himself arab/lebonese.

The Gazans who desecrated Shani Louk’s corpse should have been executed by smothering them in a vat of pig shit. If they died quickly from Israeli gunfire or Israeli bombs, it’s better than they deserved.

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...

Lisa Murkey should be thrown out for endorsing a Democrat for Governor. Instead Mitch the bitch McConnell gave her money, even after she was defeated in the R Primary. In fact, the Senate Republican pac gave Cornyn $100 million for his primary. $100 million that could have gone to elect Rodgers or win back GA.

The R party are Goddamn losers. Trump saved them. IF not for him we'd have 5 Leftists on the SCOTUS and Chief justice Kagan. Not to mention, open borders and amnesty. And..gasp... some sort of national health insurance.

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...

Yeah, Stevens now has a Jewish Finacee. You gotta admire the Jewish team spirit. Someone is always willing to "take one for the team".

Dr Weevil చెప్పారు...

Haley Stevens is Jewish, but his name (confusingly) is Jason Turkish. And he's legally blind from birth, which I hesitated to mention, knowing what some of our resident antiSemites are likelly to do with the information.

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...

BTW, what is it with mothers giving their daughters "male" names? There must be a zillion "ashleys" from Ashley wilks in GWTW. Not to mention the Ryans.

I thought "Haley" was one of those, but no, it seems that despite "Haley Barbour " the former RNC head, its a girls name. "Haley" means "Hay meadow".

At least it wasn't "apple".

Big Mike చెప్పారు...

While the Democrats are busy making an example of Haley Stevens, another Michigan Democrat followed her lead. State Representstive Karen Whitsett also endorsed Mike Rogers, explicitly rejecting El Sayed. This is significant because Whitsett is a black woman, and black females are the most reliable demographic component of the Party’s coalition.

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...

Her fiancee is legally blind? Well, that explains it.

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...

I'm sure she has a great personality.

Dr Weevil చెప్పారు...

By the way, "Finacee" for "fiancé" looks like a Freudian slip: some people can't think of Jews without attributing love of money to them. And he's her fiancé with one E, she's his fiancée with two (standard French masculine and feminine endings). Try not to use words you don't know how to spell, or distinguish from similar words. It makes you like like some kind of pseudo-intellectual.
