a study in the journal SCIENCE, which goes by the unassuming title of “Late Holocene re-expansion of the Laurentide Ice Sheet,” asks whether “anthropogenic warming prevented the next glacial cycle” and finds that “it may have done just that.”

the current interglacial is now more than 11,700 years old. Which means we are due for another ice age in the relatively near future..
Nicolás Young, a geochemist at the Columbia Climate School and one of the study’s authors, put it in layman’s terms, telling Phys.org that: “It was just getting started, everything was normal, the next glaciation was about to happen — and yet it stopped.” (The University of Colorado Boulder called it “The failed ice age.”)

The Trump sons are building a global business empire while their father occupies the Oval Office, meeting foreign leaders and expanding their financial interests in industries affected by his administration’s policies. The potential conflicts are extraordinary.

And the Trump brand? It may be worth more than ever to those seeking access to the president, but that’s precisely the problem.

The question isn’t just how much money this family can make. It’s what happens when the line between public service and private enrichment becomes this blurred.

The boy's family claimed that league officials and other parents sidelined him because he was "too good" and dominating the game against 5-year-olds. Conversely, bodycam footage and 911 audio released by the Winter Park Police Department revealed that the league director called authorities due to the parents becoming disruptive and confrontational after being asked to follow league rules regarding equal playing time."

US District judge Ada Brown is being investigated for misconduct after (allegedly) repeatedly directing racial insults towards a lawyer during a hearing.

I figured she would be a Biden judge or an Obama judge. I was surprised to see she's a Trump judge.

I think she's having some kind of mental breakdown? That would be my guess, when you go off the racial skids like that. Blackmun's article sort of tries to excuse it, by pointing out that's what they teach you in the Ivy Leagues these days. Apparently, you're supposed to believe in racial politics, but not speak it out loud. It sounds incredibly racist and stupid when you speak it out loud.

The guy who filed the complaint is just as woke as she is, apparently. He's not white and she kept calling him white. Anyway, to me it's so bizarre that you can no longer tell the difference between woke ideology and mental illness.

She's "refusing to decide cases," which seems to me to be at least as big a problem as being a public racist.

Blackmun goes on to say

Many lawyers and judges harbor the "anti-racist" views that Judge Brown spewed, but have the mental faculties to keep it private.

Why would you need to keep an "anti-racist view" private? Answer: it's not anti-racism as all, but an ideology that's virulently racist against white males (even imaginary white males a.k.a. "whiteness").

"Anti-racism" is exactly like Antifa (short for anti-fascism). It's a blatant lie. You claim to be anti-racist, or anti-fascist, while you adopt the basic idea of the ideology you claim to oppose.

We ought to call it "racist anti-racism" or "fascist anti-fascism," so as not to confuse the kids.

From the Volokh piece about Judge Brown, it sounds more like she was castigating the white-appearing Latino attorney for being a white savior of a black professor who was denied tenure. So the judge was using the woke vocabulary against someone she perceived as woke:

""And so when I read a headline — a sensationalized, very racialized headline that says, 'it's like I've been lynched,' and it's literally got no connection to this case, I have to ask you, Mr. Social Media, Main Character Chad, White Hero, Savior, Loves to Help Black People Be An Ally, where the lynching in this case came from?" Brown said, according to the transcript."

So it kind of makes sense coming from a Trump appointee. Although she has not quite learned how to do Trumpian humor. And even that is not appropriate from the bench. CC, JSM

One always runs into trouble when one is the smartest person in the room and tries to use the other side's language against them. The other side can't keep track of the inversions and double negatives. Like the NYPD Blue episode where a skell accused Sipowicz of persecuting him for being a Notorious Epithet, and Sipowicz quoted the Notorious Epithet back at him: "no, I'm not arresting you because you're a 'Notorious Epithet.' Of course the whole establishment then went to 30,000 feet and Sipowicz went on a bender. The whole thing got resolved by the black Lt Fancy in 49 minutes, though. CC, JSM

john mosby કહ્યું...

Judge Brown's line about 'black excellence' seems to mean that the black attorneys representing the university are truly excellent, and the woke attorney for the fired black professor has never seen such, because he's stuck in his DEI/AA mindset.

[start virtual italics]“I’m not White, Your Honor,” the lawyer said. (He’s Latino.)[end virtual italics]

I dunno. I remember when Latino was an umbrella ethnic term, and a Latino might be black or white (or Amerindian, for that matter. Etc.). I think we conflate ethnic and racial terms/categories too much, and it's become a habit. I guess my stance is old-fashioned and "outre" these days. But it's always bugged me. Well, bugger me!

Regardless of that, I think the judge was out of line. Unacceptable.

rcommal કહ્યું...

In the '80s, I worked at an independent television station. Half of its programming was Telemundo, at the time trying to make inroads into the U.S. market (Univision was King here). This involved a lot of reach out to the Hispanic/Latino communities. And we focused a lot on the demographics for marketing etc. purposes. There was differentiation as well on race within the umbrella of Latino/Hispanic (there was debate about those terms as well, by the way). I guess this has fallen by the wayside? But I digress.

rcommal કહ્યું...

The other parts of programming at that station was RAI, the Italian TV network. There was a large population of Italian-Americans, and one of the big interests was in soccer, which at that time was not widely popular here in the U.S. Both the Latino/Hispanic and the Italian populations were fans of soccer, so they both wanted that sports programming. There was a weekly block of Korean programming, but the rest was religious programming. The owner of the station, who was also the GM, was personally a very devout evangelical Christian. And at the time there was a lot of unfulfilled demand for that programming.

I don't even know if local stations like that exist anymore. I wouldn't think so, because of all the changes since then (first expansion of cable, then satellite TV, and now streaming of all sorts). I stopped following closely issues surrounding local stations decades ago.

One of the haters upthread made a claim that “zionists” are easily manipulated if instructed to believe that “black is white” and some other strange nonsense. It’s a smoothbrain version of Rush Limbaugh’s tag line “mind numbed robots,” which was itself a reference to what leftists always say about Conservatives. The people who hate Israel do so with so much emotion that they assume all sorts of emotional pathologies are common to their enemies as well.

But the essence of conservative values is preservation of things that endure, faith and family and God’s Love for man. The Christian faith is unchanging compared to the world around us. My belief in the righteous founding of Israel, the land of Zion promised to Moses, has never changed. My belief that countries with declared borders and governed with the democratic consent of its people are superior to hazy “regions” operating lawless states that wage war continuously remains unchanged.

Your stories keep changing. Your excuses for hating Jews are continually revised. Your support for terrorists LARPing as a “country” is antithetical to the civilization. The whole situation boils down to civilization versus anarchy.

I 100% side with civilization.

from the Bloomberg article

The committee made its determination on Brown’s alleged mental condition based on 10 stated reasons. Those include Brown allegedly refusing to manage her docket, recusing from over 40 cases since June 1 giving no or “unusual” reasons, “making racial insults to judges and court staff,” sending “copious and bizarre emails to court staff and judges,” and refusing to meet with Elrod and O’Connor about her docket, according to the order.

Brown was ordered by the committee to undergo an independent psychiatric evaluation by Oct. 21, the council order said. The council reviews misconduct complaints against the circuit’s judges.

The committee also found that Brown “abandoned her post as a federal judge,” according to the order. The committee said Brown didn’t respond when asked when she planned to return to work.

Brown has issued nearly no orders since Aug. 10 in “protest” of a recusal letter not being docketed in a case that’s since been assigned to another judge, according to an order by Elrod.

It's called Naza, which is a reference to collateral damage (i.e. civilian deaths). Jewish filmmakers, I think. They got interviews with 24 former IDF soldiers. Might be an honest doc or a Michael Moore shit-show. I haven't seen it.

Reportedly the movie got a 25 minute standing ovation at the Venice film festival.

Can you imagine standing and applauding for 25 minutes? How crazy is that shit? That reminds me of the Soviet standing ovations, where everybody is scared to be the first one to stop clapping.

I googled it and the AI came up with this one...

The famous account of Soviet standing ovations where people were afraid to stop clapping comes from Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s book The Gulag Archipelago.

The Story

• The Ovation: At a 1937 Soviet Communist Party conference, an audience began a standing ovation for Joseph Stalin. Watched closely by NKVD secret police agents, no one dared to be the first person to stop clapping or sit down, turning the applause into an 11-minute endurance test.

• The Arrest: The director of a local paper factory finally grew exhausted, stopped clapping, and sat down first; the rest of the room immediately followed suit and stopped.

• The Consequence: That same night, the factory director was arrested, interrogated, and sentenced to ten years in a Gulag labor camp on fabricated charges. His interrogator famously warned him: "Don't ever be the first to stop applauding!"

The clip is less than a minute; the ovation lasted 24.5 minutes. Reuters, AP and Euronews all reported the 25-minute ovation. Confusing a short clip with the length of the event isn’t fact-checking; it’s a credibility problem of your own making.

It is a distressing habit of political figures to routinely claim elections have been stolen without evidence.

Orban accepted the outcome. Now it appears to be the time to bring in more clowns. Bolsonaro, making Trump type claims even though his party accepted the election result. Netanyahu, also continuing to use the Trump handbook.. Are we one step away from sham elections?

Polite golf clap for 25 minutes? What the fuck. That's insane as shit. If it really happened, that's Stalin-level fear, not genuine applause. "Don't hate me, terrorists, don't hate me."

There's a reason they didn't run the clip for 25 minutes. Who the fuck would watch it? Who would appreciate it? Nobody!

I would not be surprised if all three news agencies were relying on the word of one seriously biased reporter. We saw a lot of this in Gaza reporting.

Do you believe people did a standing ovation for the length of a Seinfeld episode?

Saint Croix કહ્યું...

The movie's 90 minutes and the standing ovation is 25 minutes? My ass. Show me the full video or it didn't happen.

Michael Fitzgerald કહ્યું...

I don't believe any reports of a 25 minute standing ovation. Even brainwashed, terrorist-loving libtards are not going to applaud anything for nearly half an hour. It would take a lot of endurance to clap for 25 minutes, professional athlete levels of strength. No pussy-ass libtards could manage it.
I do know that Democrat Party media propagandists constantly share and recycle the same leftist lies and press releases word for word without any independent verification whatsoever. More likely that it was a 2.5 minute standing ovation that the stenographers of the Democrat Party incorrectly reported, I mean, lied about, as usual.

My review of Lawrence of Arabia

C+
#3,103

Four hours! Oh my God, it's four hours. That's longer than the frickin' Super Bowl, man. And I already know who's going to win. You ever try to watch a Super Bowl when you already know who's going to win? Good luck with that. I knew it was long but four hours. My butt is molting to the chair. I think I just said my butt is losing feathers. Four hours! Dude. And it's all sand. It's sand sand sand sand. And sand sand sand sand. I'll bet this movie was secretly financed by the Coca-Cola corporation. Sand sand sand sand. "I'm so thirsty. Why am I so thirsty?" For the intermission and the six dollar Coca-Cola.

Yeah, okay, it's awesome. It's epic. It's bigger than anything ever made. Lawrence lights a match and the flame becomes the sun. Nice cut! (Hey, keep cutting. Cut some more).

Just shut up, Carmichael. Respect the massive achievement.

Okay, okay. It's a classic. (Mark Twain's definition of a classic: "A book everybody owns and nobody reads"). So I guess I'll just buy it and put it on my shelf and never watch it again. I saw it. Why do I have to see it again? I saw it. I saw the whole thing. It's an awesome and amazing classic. Just don't make me watch it again, okay? Please. Sand sand sand sand.

I kinda think this is Art as Oppression. When we're introduced to Lawrence of Arabia, he's burning his own arm like he's G. Gordon Liddy, or that moron from Lethal Weapon. What a man. This movie is like that arm burn. David Lean is making us watch for four hours, so we know how serious he is. Watch Lawrence of Arabia, it's good for you. Suffer! Art is not fun. Art is serious. And painful.

You should take all the chairs out of the theatre, David. Make us stand at attention. And salute. Suffer! Suffer for Cinema! This film is like a short, zippy version of Greed, Erich von Stroheim's nine-hour movie. Imagine some maniac in a monocle demanding that you watch his art with him.

von Stroheim: "Stand and watch my cinema."

movie executive: "I got to pee."

von Stroheim: "Hold your urine like a man!"

Compared to von Stroheim, David Lean is a wussy boy. I think for some filmmakers, movie length has something to do with penis size. Epic! You will watch my four hour epic in the sand!

You know how many women are in this movie? Zero. I feel like I've been sentenced to the English branch of the French Foreign Legion. How about an oasis with a woman? A beautiful woman? Somethin'. Garden of Eden, that's what I want to see. With a nude woman and an apple.

I know, I know. Who needs a woman in cinema? Women are for the weak. What I need is sand sand sand sand.

Hey, sometimes cool art doesn't have any women. 12 Angry Men. No women. And a lot of war movies don't have any women. But what kind of war movie are you going to have in the sand? Sand is the worst. You can't do anything in sand. You ever try to eat at the beach? Sand. You ever try to have sex on the beach? Sand. And Lawrence of Arabia has soft sand. It's not Omaha Beach sand. Omaha Beach has good, Saving Private Ryan sand. I'll bet you don't even remember the sand in Saving Private Ryan. In this movie, you remember the sand. The sand is a major character. It is serious, sinky, slow sand. You want to fight in this sand? It's like fighting a war in flip-flops.

Great movie. Classic movie. Not a fun movie. You know why nobody's lining up to vacation in the desert? Cause of all the damn sand, that's why. Just so you understand, this is not a vacation. It's not a fun trip. It's Lawrence! Of Arabia! And sand sand sand.

Considering sitting through 3 hours of the documentary “You Can See Everything” but it requires going to a movie theater. Anyone see it and rate it highly enough to recommend a trip downtown? If not we’ll wait for streaming options.

“ Reportedly the movie got a 25 minute standing ovation at the Venice film festival.”

When’s the last time you watched a film festival favorite that was any good.
