"... given his consistent support of their cause. During the vigil, he stared stone-faced, and at times looked crestfallen, as the activists chanted in support of Hamas, called for the deaths of Israeli soldiers and denounced him as a 'traitor,' many citing his meetings with President Trump or his efforts to build ties with Jewish leaders.... 'Zohran, you coward!' someone yelled from the crowd, which numbered in the hundreds. Others yelled, 'Zohran is a sellout!'"
I'm reading "For Mamdani, Oct. 7 Anniversary Sets Off Anger and Bitterness
Hours after some Jewish leaders denounced Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s remarks about the attacks on Israel, activists interrupted a vigil to call him a traitor to the Palestinian cause" (NYT).
My son Chris happens to be in NYC this week, and he went to Union Square and got this photograph:

Mamdani is not far enough Left for those "activists." 'Tis a pity.
All of the people in this story are hateful devils who are unworthy of being considered fellow Americans. I'm glad they are turning on each other and I hope it continues and accelerates.
Hamasidals on one side. Fatah on the other.

Good for Mandingo. In the words of Howard Co-sell. "Telling it, like it is":
From the article:
"Israel’s campaign in Gaza has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians, according to a count from Gaza’s health ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants but which includes thousands of children.
“The suffering did not begin nor end that day,” Mr. Mamdani said, referring to Oct. 7, adding: “That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing.”
I love the NYT's white washing of Gazans death. "Hey we just don't know how many non-combantants are in the 73,000 dead Gazans. And we have zero intention of finding out"
You can never be ideologically pure enough to satisfy the extremists. Never. It doesn't matter if it's politics or a Star Trek convention.
Hate is ascendant in the world. Something evil and organic is happening. I'm not religious, but it's so widespread and sudden that it sure seems like it's demonic. My Jewish friends are seriously worried, and I don't blame them, and I can't console them. I can only offer my support, friendship, and my promise to fight this with them. Never again.
“loudogblog said...

BINGO!!!
THe PHA says 21,000 children were killed by Israel before the cease-fire. Over 153000 Gazans were wounded. How many were kids maimed for life? 10,000? 15,000? Not clear.
PHA only counts deaths and wounded in hospitals or offiicially registered.
Another odd thing about the article is mind-reading. "Someone in the crowd yelled stuff" and "Mandigo appeared upset and ashen faced". Well i guess he was upset but maybe he just had some bad fish for lunch. Could the reporter have asked him some, y'know questions? Guess not.
Good to have Chris, our intrepid Althouse reporter, on the scene.
Good to see some Jews out there standing up for what's right, and against the Israeli genocide.
"l don't think anybody here would deny that when you send wahhenists out in the morning from your majlis, those wahhenists will return that evening to your majlis, not your neighbor's majlis. Hey Zohran, look up Georges Danton. Good luck mf'r.
Estimated Palestinians killed since Oct 7 is north of 500k, the 75,000 number is bodies that showed up at hospitals still operating, not bodies vaporized by bombs or buried beneath bombed apartment blocks. This doesn’t count the highest number of children who are amputees as a percentage of population in the world. But 200 activists get unruly in a city of millions and it’s all justified.
Mamdani is Fatah, and his voters are Hamas. That did not work out for Fatah in Gaza.

October 7 was a bad idea, right?
@rejahm: It is my understanding that the Hasidim (or at least some of them; there are numerous subdivisions) believe that the existence of a political state of Israel is a hindrance to the arrival of the Messiah.
No, the Hassidic, like the Orthodox in Israel, are antisemitic.

So you think that killing a large portion of the population of Gaza, and not done yet, was the right thing? Now Israel is talking about annexing the 2/3 of Gaza that they have ethnically cleansed. Oct sure worked out great, no wonder Bibi kept it under his hat when he was warned. It’s all over the Israeli press.
I suppose that the Mayor expected happy, friendly, tolerant and understanding people who like to chant slogans about killing jews.
In the long run, this may help Mamdani. He looks like the moderate in the middle. "What Hamas did was terrible, but so was Israel's response, way over-reaction."

As to who started it, the number of deaths by Israeli action in Gaza on October 6, 2023 was, to a rough approximation, zero
I am sure most of us know this but here is why RCOCEAN and Jax are idiots (useful or otherwise)
From Grok:
"The short answer is that Gaza’s rulers can stop the war, and have repeatedly been offered ways to do so. Whether they will is a different question from whether ordinary Gazans can force them to.
Hamas has governed Gaza since it seized the territory from the Palestinian Authority in 2007. It is not a democracy, and civilians do not set war policy. The group’s founding charter called for the destruction of Israel; its 2017 revision still rejects recognizing Israel as the Jewish state and treats all of historic Palestine as an Islamic waqf. Senior figures have been explicit that civilian deaths are useful. In October 2023, Ghazi Hamad of Hamas’s political bureau said on Lebanese television that they would repeat the October 7 attack “again and again” until Israel was annihilated, and that they were proud to sacrifice Gazans as martyrs because “we are a nation of martyrs.” Other Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad statements have framed high death tolls as a path to international pressure rather than a cost to be minimized.
That is not the only Palestinian view. The Palestinian Authority in the West Bank has at times engaged in negotiations, and polling (PCPSR and others) has long shown a split: many Gazans want quiet and reconstruction, while a large share still back armed “resistance” and reject permanent recognition of Israel. Under Hamas rule those preferences do not decide policy. Dissent is punished. When Hamas has calculated that a pause serves it—hostage exchanges, rearmament time, or relief from military pressure—it has accepted temporary truces. When the terms required disarmament, exile of leaders, or an end to the armed campaign, it has refused.
Israel’s stated conditions for stopping have been consistent since the first weeks: return of the hostages taken on October 7, 2023, and the end of Hamas as a military and governing force capable of repeating that attack. Multiple mediation rounds (Qatar, Egypt, the United States) produced frameworks in which Israel accepted staged ceasefires tied to hostage releases; Hamas rejected or renegotiated the security provisions. Rocket fire, tunnel reconstruction, and attempts to reconstitute command nodes continued during pauses. From Israel’s side, a ceasefire that leaves Hamas armed and in control is treated as a reset, not an end—especially after October 7 killed roughly 1,200 people and took more than 240 hostages, and after earlier rounds (2008–09, 2012, 2014, 2021) ended the same way.
Civilian casualties are real and large. The Gaza Health Ministry figures, run by Hamas, do not separate fighters from non-combatants and have been challenged on both totals and demographics by Israeli and some independent analysts; even so, the death toll is high. A major reason is structural: Hamas built its military infrastructure—rocket sites, command posts, tunnel entrances—inside and under dense civilian areas, including hospitals and schools. That is a documented pattern from UN, journalistic, and Israeli investigations across multiple wars, and it raises the civilian cost of any campaign aimed at the tunnels and launchers. Urban fighting against an enemy that does not wear uniforms and that prevents civilian evacuation produces high collateral deaths; it does not require a strategy of maximizing them.
Nothing legal or diplomatic permanently bars Palestinians from suing for peace. Egypt and Israel have a peace treaty; Jordan and Israel have one. The obstacle has been the refusal, by the factions that control the guns, to accept a permanent end of claims that leaves a Jewish state in place. As long as the group holding the hostages and the remaining arsenal treats a ceasefire as an interval rather than a settlement, Israeli governments—under broad domestic pressure after October 7—have treated continued operations as the alternative to another massacre."

Especially when that "wall text" destroys your simple-minded arguments.
The high (disputed) number of buildings destroyed in Gaza is 70%. Yet only 3% of the population of Gaza died in the post-October 7 war. I think the imputed theory of proportionality is stupid but even accepting there’s such a thing as a proportional response it’s up to its advocates to quantify what it means and show that 3% is significant compared to previous wars.
In talking about Mamdani, it's helpful to remember that his only real jobs (at 34) has been as a member of the NY Assembly and now as Mayor. Before that it was all just agit-prop for the lefty crowd. And he got elected by playing to the lefty crowd, certainly when he ran for Mayor. As a candidate for the Assembly in Queens, it was enough that he had the 'D' next to his name. Even if he had been a corpse on election day, he would have won his Assembly race. None of that was heavy lifting for him, and none of it required him to pretend to be someone he wasn't.
But that's his game now -- pretending like lots of other Dems not to be the jihadi cheerleader he's always been. Apart from that, he's a fan of very lefty stuff -- trying to trim back the NYPD, looking to direct lots of money to the NGOs run by his lefty friends, attacking merit selection in the public high schools, higher taxes, and all the rest of the usual stuff. Most recently he's proposed spending $600+ million to renovate about 1,100 apartments in City housing -- more than $500,000 per unit. All to be managed by the City's biggest slumlord -- which happens to be the NYC Housing Authority. Just insane.
As it happens, no one is buying his act, not his fellow travelers and certainly not those who voted against him.
If Gazan children and "civilians" are dying it's because Hamas insists on leaving them in harm's way. IOW, the only value Hamas places on children and "civilians" is as casualties they can point out to stupid western liberals for propaganda purposes. [corrected]

Jaq and RC hate Jews, to put it bluntly. How do we know? Because they are here screaming about the alleged 75000 or so Gazans killed by Israel (refusing to acknowledge that most of them are actually Hamas fighters who were killed in combat). But they are eeriely silent about the million Palestinians killed by Jordan. Or the palestinians killed by Egypt.
Dead Muslims only "count" if RC and Jaq can blame a Jew for it. When Muslims kill other Muslims, well, that doesn't matter to RC and Jaq. Only if America or a Jew does it... then it's a problem.
One would think that a dead baby is a dead baby.... but not for RC and Jaq: it only matters if they can blame Israel, the Jews, or America for that dead baby. Otherwise? Palestinians can go to hell, and Jordan and Egypt can send them there! That's RC and Jaq's position!
And, frankly, that's the position of everyone else in the Middle east too, who all hate the Palestinians. Only Israel is the only state not trying to exterminate the evil beasts.
Ah, young men who happen to be in nyc on Oct 7 turn up at protests looking to get laid...

Perhaps he can secure ISIS support. A snake is a snake.
Since 9-11, we have spent 30 trillion on our military, our national debt is 40 trillion. Who. benefited from 9-11?
And no, they have not run out of ammo, we. just gave them 40,000 2,000 lb bombs, I guess this is. to turn Gaza into a buildable stretch of seaside property with offshore gas, for the taking. But its just coincidence that Israel just keeps falling into more and more of its neighbor's land.
I am sure it's all explained why Jesus would have approved on 700 Club Israel.

You have one note: Jooos bad. You have no understanding of the situation and simply spout what the PHA says. You won't engage because everything posted refutes your base assumptions, and you cannot counter them with other facts. Easier to say "wall text".
A complex situation requires a detailed layout of facts. If we engage one item at a time, you can simply keep dodging a point and shift goalposts. Hamas can end this, they choose not to. They believe if they allow enough of their children to die martyrs (and spend eternity in glory either being someone's virgin, or having 70 virgins), so that enough people like you will pressure Israel to stop, then they can plan their next attack safely hiding behind the future child martyrs. To them a child of theirs dying is not a tragedy, it is a glorious win. They make it seem like it matters to them, so you will get all teary-eyed and cry MAKEITSTOP! They get a win-win. Their children go to glory and you get upset because you do not understand their values.
No more masks or keffiyehs worn by these assholes or anyone else. Know your enemy.

The fact that they have settled on anti-Semitism is as predictable as Hitler's beer hall Putsch. They crave the death of Jews, and anyone else they consider an "other", because it fills a hole in their evil psyches that they don't have the courage to acknowledge exists.

So, our grinning jihadi may have come under a little criticism, but the media is right there to tongue-bathe those tears away, should his sunny, personable disposition become cloudy from the mean words, slung unfairly from the Home Team.
I read that the Israelis have been blowing up some Hamas tunnel complexes over the past few days. The story focuses on the poor Palestinians that have lost their homes as a consequence, having been sited above the tunnel complexes.
Now, they knew the tunnels were there, had full knowledge that they could be targeted by the Israelis, who knew the tunnels were there too; but they weren't targeted, because Israelis don't intentionally target civilians - which is why Hamas put the tunnels there in the first place. Also, guess what, if the Palestinian homeowners did happen to come under fire, the tunnels were off-limits to them too. No refuge here, comrade. Because they're more valuable to Hamas if they're dead. Better videos, you see.
My guess is, the Israeli campaign will continue just a little longer than the Bad Faith does. Sometimes it can really suck to have a long, continuous, unbroken track record of Bad Faith, especially when new examples of it are brought forward every single day.

Almost none of the keffiyeh crowd knows that Gaza is not landlocked by Israel, but shares a border with Egypt also. Even if they know this, they are unaware that Egypt has a fortress-like border wall to rival Israel's on that border, and keeps it locked tight. Palestinians are never allowed into Egypt. The Egyptians consider them to be violent, hateful, backward troublemakers and a menace to national security.
Isn't it odd how Israel's relations with the Palestinians get put under the global microscope, but the total refusal by the Egyptians to provide any support or succour for their suffering neighbors and co-religionists is never mentioned?

Just as the stalinists and commie symps in this country didn't want to discuss the USSR crimes in the 20s and 30s, the Israelis and their Zionist allies don't want to discuss Israel's crimes.
Both use (d) the same tactic. Never defend the USSR/Israels crimes and massacres. Instead change the subject. Counter-attack. Call the opponents "fascists" (1930s USSR) or "Jew Haters" (2026 Israel).
Or engage in "Whataboutism".

And, asking again: Why does it bother you so much to have your Israelophobia pointed out, when you go to such great lengths to make sure everybody knows about it?
I really don't recall the Israelis doing anything to the Gazan Palestinians since Gaza was turned over to them in 2005, although the Gazans liked to fire rockets into Israel. But then October 7 happened, and the Israelis decided to defend and avenge themselves. As they say, "Don't start none, won't be none."
Poor Mamdani. The left always eats its own. Thought he might last longer than he did.

I do and it's easy. When one side hides and cowers behind their women and children and under schools and hospitals; when one side sends their children out with bombs strapped to them and then collects money for that immoral and dirty dead--it's easy to see why civilian casualties are so high. Only immoral people with an immoral cause fight the way the Palestinians fight.

What a curious example to pick to make your argument.
The discussion is genocide and to bolster your argument you choose WW2 population numbers . . . of Americans?
How does that make even the remotest sense?
The left looks for heretics; the right looks for converts.
In initiating October 7, Hamas turned Gaza into the fulcrum for instability, devastation, and conflict in the Middle East. Palestinians’ Arab neighbors, including Lebanon, Iran, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, and Egypt, have long perceived them and their cause as a source of instability. This disastrous day only deepened that perception—perhaps irrevocably.
Worst of all, much of the Israeli public has been traumatized and lost to an uncompromising view of their Palestinian neighbors. Even those who once believed in peace are now increasingly suspicious of the prospect of coexistence with the Palestinians. Israeli attitudes have hardened, and the right wing emboldened. Few see a path forward that includes a Palestinian state.
In the West, the focus is on the “pro-Palestine” cause, which has manifested in protests raging in European capitals and on American college campuses, the recognition of a Palestinian state by multiple Western countries, and countless acts of “solidarity” across academia, journalism, and NGOs. And yet, there has been a universal failure to translate global sympathy into meaningful action. Instead, the “pro-Palestine” industrial complex has hidden under misinformed slogans, pushed ugly sentiments, and fueled antisemitism across the world, all while Hamas continues to run rampant over Palestinians’ futures.
In other words, three years after the October 7 attacks on Israel, Palestinians have seen their homes decimated, their reputations destroyed in both Israel and the Arab world, and the actions of their supposed allies in the West amount to nothing. Yes, this has been the most catastrophic three years in modern Palestinian history.

Well chick, at least you didn't give us the "We should have killed all" arguement.
Btw, who were the Journalists, UN workers, aid workers, and People in churches "hiding in front us"?
And no doubt Hamas on Oct 7th could claim the same thing as you. The Anti-Arab "Terrorists" were "hiding" behind innocent people. And don't run off as accuse me of saying that. I'm taking your logic and applying it to the other side.
Anyway this is the end. Good for Mandingo for speaking up against Israel's crimes. And the same is true for all those who showed up at the NYC demonstration photographed by Chris Althouse.

When I saw the footage of Madmani and the mourning Jews hearing the chants of the Hamas people, I immediately thought of something that so far I have not heard in the media or read in these comments: Madmani wanted the chants to be audible to the mourners.
It's NYC. He had a huge NYPD presence. NYC has years of experience with protests and events. The two groups could have been kept far apart if Madmani wanted.
But he didn't. He wanted the mourning Jews to be subjected to the same chants the dead Jews hyd heard on their last day.

The first shows population growth in the midst of a surmised genocide, the second shows population growth in a nation at war.
Genocide is a word, it can mean many things, there is no standard, so let’s just say the UN gets to define it.
Article II of the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide defines genocide as any acts of violence committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. Therefore intent is the key. You can be guilty of official genocide if you lived in an ice cave in the Antarctic and just intended to destroy a race or religion with violence, according to the UN.
So neither of the two gains of population show that no one had any intent, and thus neither are informative about genocide.
Did Israel destroy the Palestinian group? No. Did they intend to? Unprovable. Anything else is just imputing your prejudice on someone else.
If it was a genocide it was one of the most ineffective, because in fact the genocide did not genocide.

I just tuned into this shit show. Nice crowd.
RCOCEAN- I'd try to school you on the history over there, the people, the land, the actual facts, but fuck it. I'm not using any more of my time of life on you. You're a fucking moron.
One day you need to go over there. Visit Israel. Visit that area. Meet the people. Get a sense of the history. And...oh yeah- duck.
The missiles will probably still be coming at you from the poor Palestinians- just as they have for the past 75 years.
Palestinians were offered peace multiple times over multiple unyears. Many plans that included the work of many nations. And each time their 'leaders' sold them out and rejected peace. Arafat himself killed multiple peace talks and ended up a multimillionaire for his troubles. Gosh...I wonder who was paying him to keep the attacks coming? Anyway...the Palestinians never wanted peace. They just want to kill Jews. And so with the awful events of Oct. 7, the Jews finally said, "Enough!" And they decided to take out Hamas's tunnels, and Hamas along with them.
They dropped flyers. They make media announcements of where they were attacking next, told Palestinians to leave or be in harms way. No other people fight wars this way. Israelis did. But...they also did what they had to. WHAT ANY NATION ON EARTH WOULD HAVE DONE HAD THE SAME THING BEEN DONE TO THEM- OVER THE YEARS, AND ESPECIALLY ON OCT. 7.
Would you have watched your mom, wife and daughter be gang raped, mutilated, then beheaded or simply shot and done nothing, ROCEAN? Are you so pure a human being? Good for you. Must be nice to make such judgements from your comfy chair, having no actual knowledge of the history of this, or any war. You should make a point to watch the actual 47 minute footage (taken by the Palestinians themselves). Watch it and think of how you'd react if those were your friends, families, town.
You know nothing. You talk a lot. But you know nothing.
Eva - has anything RCO ever said made the remotest sense?

Gazans are Palestinians and they all hate Jews more than life itself. They vote for Hamas. Many of them cheered Oct 7th.

Actually, Gazans are Arabs.
William - Actually yes
" just tuned into this shit show. Nice crowd."
Thanks Internet comment judge. As the "only adult in the room" thanks for your input. I'll be sure to try harder next time. We all want your approval.
LOL. Next time - maybe get in the game.

Israel killed 21,000 kids in gaza. Quit quibbling over the word "Genocide".
Was it genocide when Jordan killed 10 times that many Palestinian kids?
Do the joooooos get a special multiplier?
Love how characters instead of adding anything to the discussion, pop in and tell us how "Bored they are" or "Wow, this was a shit show" or "Man, i hate these discussions".
Yeah whatever.
One thing everyone can do on the internet is adopt an air of superiority. No matter how inferior they really are.

He isn't a dumb person and he is generally on track.
He just has this one blind spot with the jooooos.
He is right about the people who worship Israel on this board btw. Nobody is allowed to think when the joooos are involved.
We should be throwing every congressman and senator that has taken AIPAC money in jail for treason.
I don't hold it against Israel for doing it. It is a smart thing to do. But we should be better.

LOL! The lack of self awareness is real.
*I have reported this comment to the FBI.*
That made me laugh out loud ... if for nothing more than this moron thinks the FBI is competent enough to do something even if it was a serious threat.
Hamas caused the death of a lot of people on both sides just to get idiots to attack Israel. It worked because idiots are easily and predictably played like that. No October 7th, and a lot of people are still alive. Who chose to do that massacre, knowing full well what was inevitable afterward? Those saying Israel overreacted need to tell us what the correct reaction would be. Even Hamas knew what would have to be done, and was counting on the idiots to not agree.
RCOCEAN II,
I am willing to:talk to you on this blog.
Can we have a debate?
Here is the postulate: Israel implemented a genocide.
Let’s go.
If you were in charge of the defense of Israel, what would you have done after October 7th?
Jim
"That made me laugh out loud ... if for nothing more than this moron thinks the FBI is competent enough to do something even if it was a serious threat."
FBI has always been incompetent and are an even bigger clown show under Trump. But we cannot allow assholes to threaten people with murder on social media so its our obligation to report it when we see it . So go f yourself.
"Israel killed 21,000 kids in gaza."
I remember last year and the year before and ever since about a week after Israel started their reprisals against the Muslim terrorists that you were spewing shit about "40,000 children in Gaza killed". It was 40,000 for a few years and then you claimed 60,000, then 70,000 a few times. Nice to see the numbers you pull out of your ass trending back to reality.
The Yids are pretty lousy at this whole einsatzgruppen thing.
Oh, And Tim and RCO only use "genocide" because they know, or more likely, their sources know it triggers people.

Well, we are in agreement on this.
