My lake, Lake Mead is holding low but steady. The lake above us, Lake Powell is filling fast (1 foot up today alone) which is a huge rise in such an enormous lake. The El Nino is bringing lots of rain and snow is starting in the Rockies. I'm expecting a much-needed year of deep snow and spring lake filling. I love my lake. We went out on it Monday, and it was wonderful.

The Colorado River has a history of devastating its world. Just look at the Grand Canyon. It's the greatest graffiti of all time.
The surprising thing is that it's a tiny river. Way down the list of great rivers, but it has a temper. It drinks way too much sometimes and then ruins the whole neighborhood. So Americans fought back, and that's a whole nother incredible story. The workers on the Hoover Dam would drive 30 miles through the desert to Vegas in 1920s cars and trucks, party all weekend, and have to be back at the dam site by Monday morning and look sober. Imagine that drive each way.
Some of my favorite rivers in CO flow into it. Adding to it's rock cutting glory. The Taylor River and the East River meet to form the mighty Gunnison River - that eventually flows into the Colorado river. The Roaring Fork feeds the the mighty Colorado. The Elk Mtn streams, some of the tallest and grandest in the state, feed that short mighty stretch.
