So she was an activist on their behalf, and may have (unlikely, admittedly) made some progress on their behalf, but because of the (apparently passable) color of her skin, they don't want her help. But the rest of white folks are supposed to do something to help blacks?
McWhorter hits the nail on the head - it is the desire to be "interesting" despite having no real accomplishments that drives a lot of this kind of thing. Before social media, this was tempered a bit - no one would know what dopey crap you were pulling other than a fairly immediate circle of people, and that circle would generally be nice and supportive if for no other reason than to not make waves. Now, you post on Instagram/Facebook/whatever and immediately start looking for likes and positive comments from strangers, and only more and more extreme behavior draws comments from strangers.
Instead of wondering whether these folks are crazy or calculating, as several have suggested, it might help to just look at what motivates them. In some activist circles, having “lived experience” can give someone extra credibility and a stronger voice.

Peachy at 10:05 makes a great point. But...a couple of things. Israel didn't let Hamas have Gaza. They gave it to the Palestinians who then had elections and put Hamas in power. And have kept putting Hamas in power over the years.
They've been offered peace numerous times over the years, including at the start of Israel. They've turned it down every single time. Because Palestinians don't want peace. They want to eliminate Israel and Jews.
And as for Jews being settlers. They've always lived in that land. The very name Jew comes from Judea. The Kingdom of David was around centuries before Islam was even a thought. Jews may not have always been the largest population there, because they were conquered numerous times and scattered. But they have always had a presence there.
And when the European Jews needed to come there, they overpaid Arabs and Muslims for their land. They paid way above the market value for dirt. And thousands of Arabs and Muslims were only too happy to take the money and run. Only later to shout out that it had been stolen from them.
Arabs and Muslims who lived within the borders of the new State of Israel were begged to stay. But their Muslim brethren in neighboring countries told them to get out, that they were going to be attacked.
And so they left.
Yet even today, there are 2.17 Arabs living as citizens in Israel. Guess how many Jews are left in any of the Middle East countries where they had lived for thousands of years?
