The war against Germany was essentially won before there was a formal surrender. And pockets of it went on after the surrender.
The war against Japan was over after the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Took a second bomb on Nagasaki to convince the Japanese it was over. August 9 for the 2nd bomb, September 2 for the official surrender. Major offensive movements against Japan were largely halted by Aug 14.

The Iranian junta has not surrendered. Nor will it. There are two ways that the war comes to a complete end. We send in ground forces, and forcibly remove the current leaders, or internal opposition overthrows the junta and negotiates a peace settlement.

We have rejected the idea of boots on the ground. Continuing doing what we're doing is relatively cheap, especially when it comes to US lives lost. Bullets, bombs, missiles, aircraft patrols, and soon- drones, are cheap for us. Compared to lives. I'm not happy with the current state of affairs- there are still buildings standing in Tehran- but I'm not extraordinarily unhappy. Internal opposition to the mullahs is growing. Whatever replaces them will not be a muslim theocracy. Not likely to be a democratic republic either. Although they're going to claim that at first.

While Germany surrendered, technically there was never a peace treaty until East and West Germany were reunited. But for diplomatic reasons- it wasn't called a peace treaty.

Is the current state of affairs a stalemate? Um, no. A stalemate implies both sides are equal in some way. We could easily commence a bombing and strafing campaign to wipe out the population of Iran in sections. Of just turn major portions of Iran into glass parking lots. They don't have the same capability. But again, we don't wish to take either option.

Countries bordering Iran will start nibbling away at their territory if things go on. We won't stop them- and the mullahs can't. Nature detest power vacuums. here are still power structures within Iran that could overthrow them. Notably the military. Maybe they will, maybe they're too cowardly. Aggie કહ્યું...: What you and others seem to be implying is that they didn't use a minority, because they're a protected species and exempted from social criticism, at the expense of whites. But what I am saying is that is a poor argument in this particular case.

If you were to portray a black or hispanic with that particular ad, you would be in a poor position to defend it, because the numbers don't line up in a way that you can solidly defend or refute across the board. That approach might use '% of racial category' as its debate argument, but it's easily countered with the 'SNAP $ by race' as a portion of the budget. That is not a clearcut winnable debate. At best, I think it would be a draw, with a reasonable case to be made to call you racist for picking on the smaller category.

As it stands, I think the ad is pretty well done because it ends on a positive note, the subject happy to be employed and the program showing a successful outcome. Again: Where are the suggestions on how it should have been done instead?; 29/9/26 11:34 PM

john mosby કહ્યું...: Speaking of white boys: yesterday on Morning Blow, Anand Giridharadas (the guy who looks like the grandson of the Snow and Heat Misers) was flogging his new book. It's called The Man In The Mirror, and it's about the Daniel Penny/Jordan Neely subway incident.

The title comes from Neely's prior career as a Michael Jackson impersonator in Times Square. Surprisingly, at least from Anand's talk, the book sounds pretty balanced. He goes through Neely and Penny's histories up to that point - Neely's mom was killed by a boyfriend when Neely was 14 and started him on a trajectory of homelessness and mental illness; Penny was raised in an NJ white-flight suburb but became multi-culti after his USMC hitch and had a pretty cool Pinterest of global architectural details.

Anand talked about how everyone on that subway car - Penny, Neely, and all the other passengers - felt abandoned by the authorities. Pretty bold considering it was a blue city, state, and country at that point.

Of course, MSNOW had to bring Obama SecDHS Jeh Johnson onto the set, sitting right next to Anand like a political commissar to recite the obligatory But Trump formulae. You could tell Anand was more than a little pissed off that this guy was bringing politics into his nuanced urban chronicle. Even Joe by his facial expression was having a SICS attack (Sudden Involuntary Common Sense) at why the hell Jeh was blathering.

The overwhelming majority of people on welfare are female.

If she had put a fat white woman with no husband and a couple kids she at least captures the largest demographic. You know the average weight of a female in the US now is 170 lbs? I bet the average for women on welfare is higher.

If the mediocre governor of Arkansas had any political talent she would have known this would cause problems in her base.

You know who the biggest voting block for Republicans is? Why would it be a good idea to caricature your voters with demeaning racist and sexist stereotypes that aren't even true?

But the white woman went after the least likely group of people to actually be on welfare. Because that is the only group she can caricature. Because she is a coward.
