"Overtly doctored imagery... is thought to be only a sporadic occurrence in higher education marketing materials."

"More commonly, universities select or stage photos that suggest that their campuses are more diverse than they actually are."

From "Stanford Used A.I. to Swap Black Student for Hispanic Student in a Photo/Universities have been accused of doctoring photos to showcase diversity in the past. In this case, a Black woman replaced a Hispanic young man, who said it was upsetting to be 'erased'" (NYT gift link).

Who cares if the fake impression is created by A.I. as opposed to moving real people into positions they didn't get into on their own? What's the difference? It's fake, it's deceptive, it's shallow, it's pathetic. Either way.

Higher education advertising is as honest as a beer commercial, and often funny, but never intentionally so.

White leftists are racist? again? another clue? ya don't say.

AI doctoring of the image is ordinary advertising. I can't find it but there's a picture of my college fencing team, maybe 40 people, all white guys. That was back before AI.

Clearly it was about race,
But if he had a better face
They would have photoshopped the other guy.

Didn't UW do that in a campus brochure a few years ago?

My wife was a highly respected manager of the Alabama division of a Federal agency. A highly male-dominated agency overseeing a highly male dominated industry.
The agency got a female Cabinet Secretary. After that my wife
would be placed on virtually every committee with any high profile activities. She'd spend the first day or two demonstrating she was there for valid reasons. She was also seated on the dais or in the front row where agency photos made sure her image was prominent.

All BS marketing

I agree with AA. It’s pathetic no matter how you do it.

My alma mater magazine depicted the current student body as about 5% White male and 75% minority female and male. They are so proud of their diversity.

Yes. I think it was about 25 years ago. Instapundit linked to it last yesterday, but for some reason I can't access that post today.

They thought the Asian girl was too fat for Stanford? Very insulting.

A model of color judgments and class bigotry under the Diversity umbrella. One step forward, three steps backward.

I wonder how the Asian girl feels. She already looked pretty cute with plumpish 'chipmunk' cheeks, so making her face slenderer was not only high-handed and rude, but kind of . . . pointless.

I attended a mid size state university about 45 years ago. Recent “welcome week” videos they have posted could lead one to believe they have converted to a women only enrollment.

All I can say is that we Latinos are getting the short end of stick when it comes to DEI. Even Cesar Chavez has been put down the memory hole.

So the FAKE NEWS really is Fake !

boatbuilder చెప్పారు...

Because everyone believes implicitly everything that colleges put into their marketing brochures. How hard would it be to round up a pretty white woman, a handsome Asian guy and a couple of clean and articulate black students of either sex and have them pose outside the library? Totally credible! But don't ever change the people in the pic you have, because that would be "upsetting."
What a scandal!

In my days in private practice, I remember the law firms always being careful to prominently feature a photo of their one or two minority associates in their marketing materials.

There’s fake and then there’s fake fake. Ask Whoopi Goldberg if you don’t know the difference.

The best advertisement for going to college was the movie 'Animal House'.

Just like Stalin used to do.

Death of Stalin. Decent movie. Dark Comedy. Michael Palin, Busecemi, Jeffrey Tambor.....
