Lovely walk down memory lane—both the blog itself and the content has ghlighted therein.
The next post down in your old TTTBF blog is titled "Tough Anti-Communists Reject "Moral-Equivalence". In that entry, you and the Times cite a talk by Tom Wolfe titled "The Intellegent (sp) coed's Guide to Socialism." Sounds like a topic very relevant to today's discourse. Maybe 18 years from now you can come back to today's blog and comment.

There was a Ray Bradbury story about the last man on Mars. All the cities had been evacuated so he created digital versions of himself that he could talk to on the phone. Eventually, each version of himself had a slightly different personality based on how old he had been when he had created that copy of himself. Then after he died, the digital versions started to call each other and talk about what they were like at that phase in their lives.
Back to the future.
I'm curious what my first comment on this blog was. There are ways to find out, but some might take longer than I have left on this earth. I have a tag, I'm proud of that (even if it hasn't been used in many years).
Pardon me Professor, but I clicked through and saw a photo of you from 1968. Redhead! Whoa! The things I'm thinking are better left unsaid.
I still await the resurrection of The Gatsby Project.
Tim Maguire: It might be worth looking up! It's fun to see what you were saying and how back then...well, at least, for the most part "fun." Yours would be particularly good since I've always considered yours among the most thoughtful since early days.
You inspired me to look up my own first (under reader_iam) , which I know was directly connected to a Hurricane Katrina post when the response (or lack thereof) beforehand was being dissected. I haven't found it yet, but I quickly will.
Meantime, I DID find a comment of mind that was posted in an update to a post by Althouse before I actually commented myself on the blog. I had completely forgotten about that, even though I instantly remembered when I saw the post this afternoon. This was within week of Katrina, and it was from an email I'd sent Althouse. I don't remember specifically, but I'd be willing to bet big bucks that it gave me the...inspiration? courage?...to comment on a blog publicly. I'd been a lurker before that since almost the start of the blog.
Here it is: The post's name is "Must--should--the man witness childbirth?
And I still have that much-treasured book that was referenced.

Tim Maguire: You deserved a tag. I don't have one myself, which is perfectly fine, but she did publish photograph of mine in a post about the Iowa Caucuses in 2008. So I've got that going for me. ; )
Tim Maguire: I though that one used to be able to search by tag on Blogger blogs, but maybe I am completely misremembering? I don't see a list of tags on this site (I imagine that would be quite unwieldy at this point), and I don't even see a way to do it on the blog itself. So I guess I am misremembering!
But if you could search by tag, it should be pretty easy to find your first.
I was spry, single, childless, and merely a Master of Divinity. Lot has happened in that 18 years. But I think Althouse exploring the timeline is a wonderful task to reboot. Research about different eras is a lot easier now. And being able to involve a AI chatbot would make engaging the research more creative too.
Love that jumping timeline you do from time to time. Also...wish I had met that Ann Althouse back in '68. For purely intellectual discussions, of course. We would have had to find an intellectual to help me take part.

Please use the comments forum to respond to the post. Don't fight with each other. Be substantive... or interesting... or funny.
