"A billion dollars worth of Mets in left field and none of them could pick it up."

That’s the left fielders ball since baseball was a twinkle in Abner Doubleday’s eye.

RMc म्हणाले...

This is the most Mets thing ever.

R C Belaire म्हणाले...

I've seen little league players do better than that.

What would Casey Stengel say ?

Dave Begley म्हणाले...

It’s worse for college sports. Michigan (Ann’s alma mater) lost to Western Michigan in regulation time and Michigan had a player payroll of at least five times more than Western.

Nebraska volleyball beat Creighton last night and basically the same thing.

Shouting Thomas म्हणाले...

Good commentary, but why should multi-millionaires get their uniforms dirty playing out the string in a game between two last place teams? Somebody might get hurt.

RMc म्हणाले...

Guess you missed the final play, Dave.

R C Belaire म्हणाले...

Begley : Don'tcha know that D1 college football games now run 60 minutes plus 1 second? New rule -- look it up!

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

"I've been in this game 100 years, but I see new ways to lose I never knew existed before."

Casey Stengel, 1962

40 wins and 120 loses

Marcus Bressler म्हणाले...

"Can't anyone here play this game?" -- Casey Stengel

Howard म्हणाले...

That would happen in Oakland all the time when the marine layer would float in. Visiting teams would lose sight of a major league pop-up in the No man's land between the infielders and the outfielders.

Those plays are trouble, but either the shortstop or the left fielder needs to make the call. The third baseman was put in a position to fail and he did.

Lindor, the shortstop, will likely be in the Hall of Fame someday, which makes this even more egregious.

'...ya gotta talk it up out there boys' - he says to the little leaguers...

Curious George म्हणाले...

In other baseball news MVPete Crow-Armstrong hit his 43rd and 44th home run last night to set a Cub record for left-handed homers in a season.

Curious George म्हणाले...

This kind of thing happens all the time at Wrigley, especially on clear sunny days. Add the wind and nothing is routine.

Jaq म्हणाले...

This kind of thing happens more than once every season, I was watching the game, and as an Orioles fan, well I was when Brooks Robinson was throwing guys out to Boog Powell at first, had hope that it would drop because I have seen it many times when a ball is hit to where three guys should catch it.

As revenge goes, this is pretty weak sauce compared to what the Mets did to my boys in 1969, in fact I think that that’s what the lyric in Hotel California is about, or it could be the Beatles breaking up, or maybe Woodstock, but that event defined 1969 for me.

"As revenge goes, this is pretty weak sauce compared to what the Mets did to my boys in 1969,"

Nothing compared to what they did to the Cubs. I remember when the Mets went ahead of the Cubs in September asking my dad if the Cubs would come back. He said "I don't think so."

Pretty soon you're talking real money.

A billion dollars doesn't go as far as it used to. Especially in NY.

"Tell me about it." Bill Buckner.
