Should cause no problems for the states, seeing as how their voter rolls are clean as a whistle.

"Democrats and other shitbirds hardest hit…"

They shouldn't be. They don't have any problems collecting ballots to deposit in drop boxes, so all they have to do is get their mules- err... ballot carriers to help their constituents get straightened out so that they get their ballots mailed to their houses.

It could, however, be a problem for all the ballots that are now coming from cemeteries, vacant warehouses and homeless encampments. So there's that.

Mark म्हणाले...

Unsigned order, of course.
Funny how those who complain about judges making sweeping rulings no doubt approve of this one.

rehajm म्हणाले...

…it will mean they bypass the usps and voters, print their own ballots, deliver them to the machines. Since there are no safeguards at the counting the ruling tis but a minor setback. They can adjust…

RCOCEAN II म्हणाले...

Once again, the SCOTUS did was refuse to go along with the Far-left judges who want to stop Trump from doing anything. They didn't say Trump's "Plan" was "Lawful" - just that the Judges cant injoin him from going forward.

Here's how Kagan puts it

"Today’s decision does not address whether the
President’s attempts to interfere with States’
administration of the November 2026 elections are lawful.
Nor does it suggest that the Executive Branch has any
constitutional or statutory authority to implement the
President’s directives. Instead, today’s decision merely
postpones adjudication of those challenges. Nonetheless,
because I believe the respondent States’ challenges are
justiciable now, I respectfully dissent."

It would sure be a shame if we held an election where the only people participating were eligible voters.

BOOM!
"...for now...directs the Postal Service to decide who gets a mail-in ballot."

They can't help themselves.

"For now" means for the upcoming midterm elections; which means for the foreseeable future when everyone not in the tank for the Democrats sees what happens and asks "Why haven't we always done this?"

The Postal Service doesn't decide who gets mail-in ballots. The states do. The Postal Service just keeps track of what happens to the ballots that get sent by the US Mail.

Mason G म्हणाले...

"They can't help themselves."

The NYT? Say it ain't so!

Original Mike म्हणाले...

"The Postal Service just keeps track of what happens to the ballots that get sent by the US Mail."

If a mailed-out ballot gets returned to a drop-box, seems like they can't track that.

boatbuilder म्हणाले...

Mark--I'm curious--what is your objection to a system that keeps track of ballots delivered via the U.S. Mail?

Does it "intimidate voters?" How?
does it "interfere with the election process" as Kagan claims? How? (the only "interference with the states' administration of the election process" that I can see is to require states to clean up their rolls. Which is what the U.S. Government does (in theory) with Medicare, Medicaid, motor vehicles, etc. )

It seems more akin to what Fedex and Amazon are able to do with every package they deliver. Keep track of it. Is that a problem? Why?

Mason G म्हणाले...

If you can receive a mailed ballot, there's no reason you can't return it by mail.

boatbuilder म्हणाले...

Original Mike--"They can't track that"
Why not? The envelope has a trackable tag on it.
If ballots supposedly mailed to residents of Tucson end up in a drop box in Phoenix, that tells you that perhaps everything is not on the up-and-up. You can also presumably tell whether a particular ballot ever got to the address of the voter.
It makes garden-variety election fraud a whole lot harder.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

boatbuilder - I don't think you're going to get an answer. There is no legitimate objection.

Jim at म्हणाले...

*Funny how those who complain about judges making sweeping rulings no doubt approve of this one.*

Define 'sweeping ruling' and how it applies to this case.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

"If ballots supposedly mailed to residents of Tucson end up in a drop box in Phoenix, that tells you that perhaps everything is not on the up-and-up."

I'm thinking the USPS isn't going to have access to drop-boxes; those will be picked up by the local election officials.

"You can also presumably tell whether a particular ballot ever got to the address of the voter."

I do think it tightens up the front-end. The USPS can monitor if the delivery location looks legit. Of course, they could always do that, but they had no motivation to do so. In fact, as democrat allies, their motivation was to be incurious. That could still be the case. I wonder what enforcement might be involved.

boatbuilder म्हणाले...

"There is no legitimate objection"
True. I'm waiting to see what they come up with. Did Justice Jackson opine that it's racist? I bet she did.

Dave Begley म्हणाले...

MS Now in full meltdown.

boatbuilder म्हणाले...

Original Mike--The jig is up. Post-election a candidate who thinks he got screwed can get the USPS data. As can pretty much everyone else, I suppose, with a FOIA request. It's 2026.
If a couple hundred ballots arrive at a "drop box" at the same time, from the same place--well, there might be a legitimate explanation, but the evidence is what it is.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

"MS Now in full meltdown."

What do *they* give as a legitimate objection?

Original Mike म्हणाले...

"If a couple hundred ballots arrive at a "drop box" at the same time,"

Aren't drop boxes unmonitored, just sitting out there on the street?

boatbuilder म्हणाले...

The envelopes are monitored. That's the point.
The absurdity of states objecting to providing specific lists of people who are eligible to vote in their states gives the game away. Isn't that what they are supposed to do anyway? How is this "chaos?"
One would think that those states might want people who aren't eligible to vote voting in their states. Who could imagine such a thing?

Mason G म्हणाले...

"One would think that those states might want people who aren't eligible to vote voting in their states. Who could imagine such a thing?"

New Jersey has entered the chat.

Aggie म्हणाले...

One of the 'tells' in the 2020 election, if I recall correctly, was the delivery of absentee ballots by the gross to mail drops, i.e. strip-mall mailbox services. Other examples were multiple ballots being sent to parking lot addresses, or empty lots. What this is going to do is shine a light on such instances, but on the Federal record, which will facilitate querying the database, returning with instant proof of such instances in the form of a custody chain, which will also facilitate prosecution.

Dave Begley म्हणाले...

“Chaos” is one of the words the Left loves to use and tie it to Trump.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

"The absurdity of states objecting to providing specific lists of people who are eligible to vote in their states gives the game away."

Indeed. I'm just trying to understand the concrete protection provided. This is what I've got:

✅ Comparison of ballot mailing list against list of US citizens.
✅ A list of all mailing addresses in the hands of the USPS. Should detect mass mailings to NGOs, Skid Row, etc.
✅ Detection of manufactured mail-in ballots. You can't dump a pallet of fake mail-in ballots that were never mailed out in the first place.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

"New Jersey has entered the chat."

And Mark has left.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Of course, non-citizens can still vote in person.

boatbuilder म्हणाले...

If you were a non-citizen, would you show up in person to vote (if nobody paid you)?

I wouldn't--I would want to stay as far away from any possible exposure as I could. Human nature.

Apparently human nature doesn't apply in New Jersey. Curious, isn't it? All those non-citizens who love this country so much that they just had to get out and vote before actually completing the citizenship process.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

The risk to a non-citizen voting in a blue state is probably zero. Perhaps that's about to change. In those 8 states (plus DC) that mail a ballot to every registered voter, it seems to me they will have to* hand over their voter rolls to the federal government and apparently those lists will be checked against a list of US citizens**.

*I think it likely they will flat out refuse. Then what does the USPS do?

**There doesn't appear to be such a list. One of the pieces of the Executive Order is to compile one. I don't see this getting done in time for the midterms.

boatbuilder म्हणाले...

Also: "Supreme Court allows..."

No, the Supreme Court told the lower court to stop obstructing the Executive.

boatbuilder म्हणाले...

"I think it likely they will flat out refuse. Then what does the USPS do?"

Not deliver any mail-in ballots, because the states haven't told them who gets them.

I don't think non-citizens are particularly at risk for prosecution for voting illegally. I just don't think they are doing so. The real question is why are there so many non-citizens on the voter rolls? And are they really voting? Or is someone voting for them?

Original Mike म्हणाले...

"Not deliver any mail-in ballots, because the states haven't told them who gets them."

There isn't enough popcorn in the world…

Christopher B म्हणाले...

@Original Mike - as I understand it your third point is the whole ball game. The Trump EO directs the USPS to only accept for delivery, and to track using existing USPS tracking technology, ballots that are mailed to addresses on lists of eligible absentee voters provided by state election authorities. In other words, the infamous absentee ballots found in trunks and other storage locations, not received by mail or in drop boxes by Election Day, can be pretty much assumed to have never been mailed.

Peachy+2 म्हणाले...

Dems must cheat.

Christopher B म्हणाले...

So if a state doesn't submit a voter list then the USPS won't deliver any ballots.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

OK, but where in the process do the ballots get disassociated from the mailing envelopes? There still might be an avenue for a ballot dump at some point in the system where it's expected for there to be "bare ballots" already stripped from their envelopes.

boatbuilder म्हणाले...

Jeff Childers predicted a while ago that this is precisely what would happen. The Trump Administration is fortunate in its enemies, including that dim MA judge who teed this up for them. Just at the right time!

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

With a couple more months, the Trump Admin would be able to eliminate much of the election fraud. We shall see how well their partially complete parts work. There Are injunctions by activist judges keeping voter roles out of the Feds’ hands in Blue states. Etc. but on the flip side, On the flip side, the AAG for Civil Rights has announced 1,000 federal poll watchers. And no doubt hundreds of AUSAs to take their calls. Four years ago the AZ Sec of State (now Governor) got injunctions against anyone watching the drop off locations. Not going to work this time around.

Should be interesting.

Josephbleau म्हणाले...

These are countermeasures, it’s going to disrupt the normal ways of cheating. It’s not a cure but will cause the vote operators to have to take quick less refined action. Many won’t be up to the pace and we may see some spectacular fraud attempts that become very public.

You need to be able to try fraud on a small scale and perfect it before rolling it out in all the swing states, or you are exposed to having problems you did not expect. There is little time left in 2026 for careful work.

Vance म्हणाले...

Democrats screaming at the idea of vote fraud being stopped. "We can't win if only legal American citizens vote one time only! Democrats will never win an election again!" screamed some Democrat candidate. Wasn't that Klobacher or something?

Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Justice Jackson is upset the states will have to give the federal government their voter rolls, as if they are secret. Think about that; the list of people who are eligible to vote is a secret.

Hell, I get letters from the democrats telling me which elections I have and have not voted in, and ominously warning me if I don't vote in the upcoming election, my neighbors will know! But voter rolls must be kept secret.

boatbuilder म्हणाले...

Thanks for the link Original Mike.
And I stand corrected. It wasn't the dim MA judge alone who teed it up. She had help from the DC circuit--which rather incredibly agreed with the Trump position that the MA judge's injunctive ruling caused the administration irreparable harm; thus requiring the Supreme Court to address the issue in its emergency ruling.

It's not clear how USPS tracking is a closed system not open to leaks and manipulation by harvesting and counting if non-USPS drop boxes are permitted.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

"It's not clear how USPS tracking is a closed system not open to leaks and manipulation by harvesting and counting if non-USPS drop boxes are permitted."

I agree. Unmonitored drop boxes are designed to enable cheating, and these will apparently remain.

hanuman_prodigious_leaper म्हणाले...

How do drop boxes work?
Answer
Some states allow voters to return their mail/absentee ballots in a secure drop box. Drop boxes eliminate the need for return postage because they allow voters to return their ballot directly to election officials, instead of using the postal service. This can be useful for voters who may not have enough time to return their ballot through the mail.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

It needs to be understood how and when the ballot and the envelope-cover are separated.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

What makes a drop box "secure"?

Aggie म्हणाले...

Unmonitored drop boxes are not inherently the problem, although they allow the mass dumping of ballots at once, for the convenience of the cheater, as we saw in the 2000 Mules film.

The real problem is when the ballots fail to be put through the process of validation, where the signature of the voter is actually scrutinized and checked against a valid signature example from the same person, and where other aspects of their identity are cross-checked. This is the critical step that was ignored in many venues, with the outer envelopes simply being opened and the ballot inside added to the pile, with no real honoring of the process.

It's a perfect crime, once the safeguards are circumvented. Once the ballot has been added to the pile and is anonymous, the evidence trail is gone.

Jim at म्हणाले...

*This can be useful for voters who may not have enough time to return their ballot through the mail.*

Or don't trust the USPS.

I always personally drop off my ballot at the drop box near the county courthouse/office complex. My wife - and her mom - used to mail them.

The last election, their ballots were not counted. She's using the drop box now.

Vance म्हणाले...

So.... our entire vote-by-mail system relies, solely, on comparing signatures to see if they match. According to numerous people, the upcoming generation cannot actually sign anything: they print their names, clumsily, when asked for a signature.

How is this in any way "secure?" We would be far, far more secure if we just asked Apple and Google to use FaceID and biometric security to cast a ballot, and then accept the equivalent of "absentee" ballots for those who do not have a smartphone. And then ride herd on the Apple and Google developers, hard, to make sure no cheating occurs.

Bruce Hayden said:

"AAG for Civil Rights has announced 1,000 federal poll watchers."

They that many just to cover Milwaukee and Chicago alone.

Josephbleau म्हणाले...

The real target is Atlanta with the wheelie bags full of ballots and the breaking water lines.

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

“It's not clear how USPS tracking is a closed system not open to leaks and manipulation by harvesting and counting if non-USPS drop boxes are permitted.”

The way it works, is that every 1st Class letter that USPS processes gets two barcodes. One on the front, and one on the back. One in visible ink, the other in invisible ink. One has source and destination information. The other is essentially an index into a database of letters and other mail, with the source and destination information. Then each machine processing the letter is placed in the database for that letter. Thus, each letter processed can be tracked, machine by machine, location by location, is in the database.

Why go through all this? Because the processing machines are lightening fast. Most letters survive, quite well. But not all, and this allows letters mangled beyond recognition be delivered.

As for the databases, records are typically cleared out after a period of time - typically a couple weeks, if the letter was passed off to a mail delivery worker for final delivery.

Note, this is based on the level of technology in use 16-20 years ago, when I was doing patent work for the USPS.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Bruce, you're missing the point. There is no bar code reader in the drop box.

Jamie म्हणाले...

"A list of all mailing addresses in the hands of the USPS. Should detect mass mailings to NGOs, Skid Row, etc."

I anticipate that some journalists on my side of the aisle will report any instance of a "mass mailing" to a single address as prima facie evidence of ballot fraud. I hope my side does its homework better than the other side and acknowledges that People Experiencing Homelessness (I think that's right at the moment) may indeed be registered voters, and then attempts to check Skid Row mass mailings against whatever list of such is available. Otherwise there will be (even more, even louder) cries of disenfranchisement.

I recount again what our liberal-to-progressive Seattle friends said when they were living, and registered to vote, in Michigan for a couple of years due to the job of one of them, while their young adult daughters were staying in the Seattle house:

1. Washington has had universal vote-by-mail for twenty years and it's no problem; and

2. The fact that they received ballots in both Michigan and Seattle was also no problem - the girls would just throw away the ballots that had come for their parents, and if the girls received ballots at their college addresses as well as in Seattle, someone would throw away the ones that came to their college residences. And it would be no problem.

In their case, I'm sure that's true. But they couldn't acknowledge that that system was so wide-open to fraud that the wind whistled through.

stlcdr म्हणाले...

Doesn't/shouldn't mailed ballots placed in a dropbox go through a sorting process? It's just a box, after all, and cannot identify ballots from a paper cup.

Running it through a mail sorting identifying machine would be the easiest way of sorting and stacking ballots.

Joe Bar म्हणाले...

This is just like 2020. They can't sue prior. as they lack standing. After, it's too late.

boatbuilder म्हणाले...

It would be instructive for a court to ask whether the states objecting to this procedure are proposing or have implemented better, more accurate systems for tracking mail-in ballots or otherwise preventing fraud. If so, they have a point. But I don't hear any of that.

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

“ Bruce, you're missing the point. There is no bar code reader in the drop box.”

No. Not really. For us in MT, you have mail in balloting. And you have dropping your ballots off at the courthouse. Or voting in person on Election Day. What you don’t have, is drop off voting across the county in unsupervised drop boxes. And that would be convenient in a county of 15k, spread out along 100+ miles of highway. At least in AZ, drop off boxes are where the major election fraud occurs. At least there, we now know where the organization came from, and why the election fraud seems to cross party lines - both the Governor (and former Sec of State in charge of elections ) and AG are owned by the drug cartels.

I do think that it is deceptive to confuse the two: true mail-in balloting and allowing mailed out ballots to be returned to drop boxes. They seem to be sold together. We have true mail-in balloting in MT. No problem, because we don’t have drop boxes. But state after state implements “mail-in” balloting (invariably including drop boxes) and it immediately turns hard left (voting for Dems). WA, CO, etc. I remember CO, having been registered there to vote for much of my life, thinking “whoa - there goes my home state”. Luckily, by then, I was a MT voter. CO has been run by liberal wackos since.

I think that the common thread is that the ballots are mailed out, and then the voter (etc) has option of mailing them back or dropping them off. It’s called “mail-in” voting.

So, what can be done about mail-out, drop box return, voting? #1 defense is to prevent bundling. In 2022, when Katy Holmes was Sec of State, she was able (with cartel help) elect herself governor. And part of that was getting injunctions against civilians monitoring drop boxes. Sure enough, cell data showed people driving a circuit every day through drop boxes around Maricopa County. Civilians legally can’t determine who they were. But the FBI easily can. Maybe state LEOs can too. Just more work. Eliminate bundling, and you go along way to ending drop-off election fraud.

Bundling is also how actual mail-in voting is corrupted. Dozens, hundreds, even thousands, of ballots are dumped at mail boxes around the country. One person could drop off ballets for dozens of counties around the state, then do it for another state the next day. We know from trucks full of out of state unfilled ballots found in 2020, that this sort of thing went on in that election. Wonder where Biden’s 81 million votes came from? Centralized ballot mailing operations. Thats probably a lot of it. And that is what USPS tracking can easily detect and BEH used to shut down.
