Speaking of debt forgiveness, I just watched The Big Short. Pretty appalling stuff, especially considering so few people were held responsible and no lessons were learned. The politicians and government agencies that abetted and even encouraged the scams faced no consequences at all.

…it is interesting they are trying to conceal the crazy now as they were quite open about the strategy. Ann’s NYT had a lengthy think piece about the stop Trump strategy with photos and bios of some if the major perpetrating strategists, in part so you could tell what race and gender(s) they were. Personally I think it is a criminal misappropriation of taxpayer funds and a breech of public trust. I suspect their political supporters appreciate it until their opponents use the same tactic…
In this case, the banks owned the government. And Barney Frank, who contributed to the disaster as much as any single person, got to write the rules ensuring it would never happen again.

Unfortunately, lessons were learned: There doesn’t need to be accountability.

It's an old lesson--if you owe the bank a thousand dollars, the bank owns you. If you owe the bank a billion dollars, you own the bank.
In this case, the banks owned the government. And Barney Frank, who contributed to the disaster as much as any single person, got to write the rules ensuring it would never happen again.
