I’ve never seen it, but someone gave me the printed script back in 1981, so I’ve read it several times. Reading this review and now knowing that it was filmed in a derelict hotel in Richmond, Virginia, makes me think it might want to finally watch it after 45 years.

The review also reminded me that Wallace Shawn was in one of my very favorite movies, “Vanya on 42nd Street,” which was filmed in a derelict Broadway theater.

As for plays and movies, the wife and i were thinking of going to a live play in Big City USA. But my God, the ticket prices. And the mediocre plays and musicals. Whats the point of spending 300 dollars for two people to see "North by Northwest" the musical. Or Leopoldstadt, a jewish play for jews.

Hey, if Tom Stoppard wants to reconnect with his Jewish roots, well good for him. But I'm not Jewish, and dont really care. At least 300 dollars worth of caring.

It reminds me of the current broadway shows. The tickets cost a lot. And if a was zillionaire I'd probably go to a show. Why not? It beats watching TV.

But for just an average joe the cost, the crowds, the effort just doesn't make it worth while. The Book of Mormon. OK - if it was next door. But I'm not flying to NYC and pay huge prices and sit a small little seat and fight crowds.

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...: When i was younger, I thought Wallace Shawn and William shawn were the same person. Isn't it great - I thought - that the editor of the New Yorker, was moonlighting as an actor. LOL.

Everyone seems to agree on the greatest of Wallace Shawn. Writers talk about his good editorial judgement. And his ability to work with writers and get the best out of them.

The New Yorker went downhill after he retired. But one reason it did was because Shawn held on to the job for so long. He took over from Ross in 1952 and didn't leave till 1987. Had he retired in 1975, the New Yorker probably would've been better off.; 22-08-26 8:48 PM

A lot to think about. Also I like movies about art... recently watched "Blue Moon" twice (and read the screenplay).

@RCOCEAN II -- thanks. If you are near Spring Green, Wisconsin, go to the American Players Theater. See "Uncle Vanya." Even better "The Chairs." I'm going back for a second time for "The Chairs" (and I read it too). "Leopoldstadt" — saw it in NYC a few years ago (and felt sure APT would do it better, having seen "Travesties" at APT a couple times).
