I no longer believe the right when it speaks against "socialism." I have come to understand that the right does not actually mean that they hate "socialism" just a certain kind of socialism that takes care of poor mothers and children. The type of socialism that takes care of rich grifters is still on the menu.

Those who are able to buy stuff there (before the shelves are emptied) that other people will be forced to help pay for won't be complaining.
Yeah, the early days of Communism are always exciting. Free healthcare! Free housing! Free food! And then, once you are on the government tit, good luck getting off of it. And as your society crumbles and the bills aren't paid, that's when bankruptcy comes around.
If private corporations tried to do this, it would be illegal. It is illegal for private corporations to do this. You can't flood a market with underpriced goods to drive your competitors into bankruptcy. These people are demonic.

Aldi's keeps prices low, but they don't have to worry about massive shop lifting.
Convenience stores generally have higher prices than supermarkets, and it costs money to ship things into Manhattan (tolls and taxes and such, not to mention shoplifting). I'm wondering if 1) Mamdani isn't using bodega prices rather than supermarket prices as the standard, and 2) if he's planning to cut the government owned stores a deal on property taxes and such.

So our economy might be facing some brutal shocks in the future. When people destroy their own economy, they always run here. But if the left successfully destroys this economy? Where do we run?

This will come down to how much someone's time is worth. New Yorkers are already willing to stand in line for an hour for the latest taco shop or viral ice cream treat. It's not hard to imagine three-hour lines for this discount food store. Once they get in, they'll be tempted to buy much more than they need just to make it worth the wait. Will the 30% savings offset the time they've wasted? That depends on their earning potential. College students and others with copious amounts of free time will probably be the best customers --- and also the ones most likely to proclaim that this is the best way to run the economy.

The self-exposing thing about the government groceries and other socialist plans is that they intend to outcompete their private competitors by avoiding the cost of government for the government players. That should tell you something about big government and the people who sell it to you. Even they know it's the problem.

If what he's saying is true, why hasn't this happen already everywhere it was tried? Where are the success stories? Is this supposed to be a brand new idea that nobody ever tried before?
