At the Saturday Night Café...

... you can talk about whatever you want.

That photo is from yesterday. Today's sunrise was rained out. We had such an intense sunrise yesterday, with lots of deep red and orange, and this 6:24 picture with the colors cooled off didn't fit the set. It gets a solo today.

Looks great!

We are cloudy now and cooling off nicely. It's only 76* instead of >86* and humid. Send the good stuff down here whenever you can.

Last night and day to follow Solo Sailor Mara link sailing from Guernsey back to France in preparation for a round the world race. I've followed the stream from about mid Atlantic to the Azores to France to Guernsey and now back to France.

The boat and the procedures are more interesting than the girl but tastes vary.

Apparently, the executive order on USPS protocols for main-in voting is going to the Supreme Court. Briefs are due Monday.

Jeff Childers argues persuasively something I've thought for awhile; this is much more consequential than the SAVE Act. It would bring real chain-of-custody protections to mail-in ballots, as well as inhibiting alien vote casting by everybody, not just new registrations. That's why Dems are fighting this tooth and nail.

Mason G કહ્યું...

"That's why Dems are fighting this tooth and nail."

You mean- not making people get copies of their birth certificates or anything? Like what they've complained people shouldn't have to do?

Mason G કહ્યું...

It's almost like the left doesn't want anybody to know where votes are coming from.

Original Mike કહ્યું...

"It's almost like…"

It's *exactly* like…

It is currently more convenient to wait in line on election day to vote in person than to vote by mail through the postal service. Does anybody trust that the mail will either get to where it's supposed to go or get there in a reasonably timely manner? (Yes, I know that's the point--if you can't keep track nobody can track the fraud).
Can we get Amazon to handle mail-in voting?

A little after 6:00 am this morning I saw the sun come up over the Atlantic Ocean. Gorgeous.

Great link RH. Thanks.

Its amazing that you can go online and see a "Livecam" from almost anywhere in the world. Astounding.

I've been laid up with a leg injury. Yet, I can see more of the world on my computer than a person in 1900 could see in a lifetime. Point 2026.

Of course most everything else is worse. Point 1900.

Leaving Canada tomorrow, after 2 months - we've had a great time in the Great White North! Our dog is fatter (because of the steroid) but not noticeably lower in energy than before our trip began. We had the blandest Thai food of our lives last night. We're snacking on all-dressed chips, half-heartedly, tonight before heading off to bed; they're too tangy.

Capital One says an anti-money laundering review prompted the closure of more than 300 Trump-affiliated accounts.

The disclosure marks the first time a bank has formally tied money laundering concerns to U.S. President Donald Trump's family business.

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

Oh "Gadfly" shows up to attack Trump. "Gadfly". LOL. Yeah that crazy, independent minded character who just marches to his own drummer. Yeah. "Gadfly".

Yeah too bad we don't have an Althouse "Gadfly" instead of just a standard issue, party follower, "hey I read the NYT/WaPo/etc. and watch NBC/Cbs/ABC/PBS and just parrot whater they say" drone.

Gee, "Gadfly" where were you when people were going against the "Narrative" and the Establishment on Gaza and Israel? Oh right, you were AWOL.

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

But anyway, thanks for attacking Trump. Wow, I've never heard that before.

Here's an anecdote about the Postal Service. We mailed an envelope to my cousin in CT with a book, a data CD with family history info and a brief note from the Middleton PO. When he received it, the envelope was empty, wrapped in a plastic baggie, with a note "damaged in transit." Sent another, also via the Middleton PO. Same result. I went to the counter at the PO and asked for a claim form. The postal worker was borderline rude and snarky mentioned that maybe I should used USPS mailing envelopes. Third time, I went to the UPS Store in Middleton, paid only a little more, and the service rep asked I I wanted it to go through USPS. I said no, we brought it to you to send it via UPS, which he gladly did. Got there fine.

We were just about to move from WI and in the process of unpacking we came across the claim form. It was past the time limit for submitting the claim. The monetary loss was minimal - less than $15 - but having the same thing happen twice was maddening and I wanted to bring it to the postmaster's attention.

Postscript: while at the PO in our new town, I chatted with the postal worker and mentioned that we had recently moved from WI. She made a snarky remark about how horrible Scott Walker was. I responded that I voted for him three times, including the recall. Her demeanor changed instantly. I guess the APWU gets the word out effectively. That's why I'm still dubious about mail-in voting.

my post office in back bay wasn’t sinister, just rude and incompetent. Made the local news for it. At my post office in SC they corralled the most openly lgbtq staffers they could find. I suspect just to mess with all the republican voters. They i ce took it upon themselves to remove all the mailers and paper slips from the front desks because customers were using them for ‘scratch paper’ they said. I started avoiding the usps as much as I can. Unfortunately fedex doesn’t insure watches…

Well lookee here, the Scarf Lady speaks:

“By contrast to the argument that we must decentralize pandemic responses, the “scarf lady,” Dr. Dorothy Birx, who also should share the blame for the tragic fiasco with Fauci, shifts the blame to the blue states, saying they “overclosed”.(Clarice Feldman, American Thinker)

This surprises me. I thought this lying blowhard would remain subsurface.

The post office anecdotes above illustrate why moving or distributing the capital won’t do everything its proponents claim. Just like the PO, wherever it is, attracts people with a certain worldview, so would a cabinet agency or bureau. Only real solution is starving the beast and keeping it in a cage of laws and constitutional provisions. Doesn’t matter too much where the cage is.

Distributing the capital might possibly reduce the D vote in the DMV. But it might create more blue cities in the hinterland, so it could be a wash.

My post office has 2 or 3 workers. 1 or 2 of them work a few hours a week, and I normally have a nice chat with the postmaster when I go in, to catch up on matters. The hours are limited.

We had another one for a short time before her, and she was an idiot that mistakenly closed down my box and returned all my mail, right around tax time. She said I hadn't paid the annual fee; I had renewed it a month earlier, for the year, and could easily prove it, so I was hopping mad at this incompetence. She didn't last long.

The postmaster before this one was there for over 20 years, and I used to give him any extra firewood I had, instead of just piling it up for erosion control in ditches. He retired then took a job as a butcher in a really nice meat shop nearby, until he retired from that, too. That's what the P.O. is like in a town of less than 300. When you visit, you get a lot more than just the mail.

The Vigilant Fox 🦊
@VigilantFox
Bill Maher’s audience audibly gasps when he reads what the Democratic Socialists of America are actually saying out loud:

MAHER: “Trump has told 1 trillion lies, but when he says the DSA are actually COMMUNISTS, that’s not one of them.”

“And it’s not hard to prove it just by quoting the DSA and their candidates.”

“J.D. Vance was on the show, and I told him that if the Democratic Party keeps going in the direction of the DSA, my vote was in play. And all I heard all vacation was, ‘Oh, my God, you’re a Republican now.’ No, that's not what I said. I said in play, and here’s why.”

“Because not a week goes by where I don’t read about some newly chosen, exciting new face in the Democratic Party. And then when that face opens its mouth, the Communist Manifesto or some other crazy shit comes out! Again.”

“Let’s just read the quotes. The DSA platform says: ‘You work as much as you are able and no more than needed.’ If that was any closer to Karl Marx’s dictum, from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs, they’d be sued for plagiarism.”

“New York Mayor Mamdani once tweeted, Karl Marx’s words exactly. They’re not trying to hide it. Their most popular influencer, Hasan Piker, thinks communism is so groovy, he laments the fall of two of the most murderous regimes in history, the Soviet Union and Chairman Mao's China.”

“Mamdani's aide, his top aide, Cea Weaver, said, ‘If you don't believe in the government's sacred right to seize property, it's over.’ And ‘impoverish the white middle class.’ What? That's a goal? You know you're supposed to scare people into voting for you, right?”

“One of the new, soon-to-be Democratic congresspeople, Darlesia Chavalier, supports seizing all properties from landlords and said, ‘Seize the means of production.’ Mamdani has said ‘The end goal is seizing the means of production.’ I think they want to seize the means of production.”

“Now, maybe you missed that in school or missed school altogether, but THAT'S COMMUNISM.”

“Now the coalition within the DSA called the Marxist Unity Group is in ascendance. And I must take them at their word. When their words include, ‘Our commitment is to the long-term struggle for a fully liberated classless society. In a word, communism.’”

“What do they have to do, tweet out ‘Elect more communists’? Oh, yeah, Cea Weaver did that.”

[Shows tweet, audience audibly gasps]

“Yes, [she really did that]! ... People gotta realize this is going on.”

Unlike Trump and Burgum, Pirro was faced with the prospect of having to actually prove a crime in a court of law with actual evidence and someone there able to challenge it with a legal defense. All Trump and Burgum have to do is feed their cult more BS on social media.

Reading an X post- and this is one of the things NOT mentioned in the discussion here the other day.

The demonization of NAC (N-Acetyl L-Cysteine) and the removal, albeit temporarily, from store shelves and Amazon.

To a lesser extent vitamin D was also demonized, but the fact that it was far more widely used for many other things meant it's removal from the shelves would have sparked immediate backlash.

Curious George કહ્યું...

"Can we get Amazon to handle mail-in voting?"

There not much better. Their tracking system might as well say "you'll know when it gets there."
