Yesterday at 1500 it looked like dusk in CNY where I live. The sky was uniformly brown a few hundred feet up and likely above the clouds. Couldn't smell the smoke, it was up in the air.
Today, all day, until late, couldn't see where the sun was in the sky. It was uniformly overcast with the overcast obvious at ground level. And, you could smell the smoke.
Never reached predicted high temp for today and yesterday because of the smoke.
And in other weather news, my one son's weekend with the NG in TX was cancelled. No way for most of the unit to get to the base. The flooding is REALLY bad.
I was surprised with all the particulate matter in the air we didn't get rain in CNY. The smoke is going to come down somewhere as a big rainfall. Hopefully out at sea.
I think its time to invade Cananda. Label it: "Operation clean air".

Our condo building in Chicago actually has smoke in the hallways due to regular building ventilation. Fortunately we have 3 activated charcoal hepa air filter units in the place, no smell at all, and we never have to dust.
Canada is such a sweet cute little country but they can have all the mines they want, produce all the oil they want, cut all the lumber they want, and catch al, the fish they want, they are too cute to be criticized. They can burn their trees all they want.

I see a new long range plan has become putting pipelines across territory to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Saudis have already done it; Iraqis and Omanis in the process of doing it.
All of this is great, but..... there's a reason it hasn't already been done, years ago, and it isn't war. A pipeline needs two terminals, beginning and end. And it needs pumping stations along the way, to offset the frictional losses along its length. And it needs lots of storage capacity, treating plants, to prepare and receive volumes, and at the end, a loading terminal.
All of these are fixed targets. There is a cost to harden them, and that cost only reduces their exposure - it doesn't eliminate it. Burying the pipeline only partly protects it, and is additional cost.
The point is, you're trading one exposure for another. A fixed target stretching across open desert is a low cost, very high value target. Low cost, because it can be brought to a halt by a single strike. Low cost, because you don't have to kill people in order to bring it to a halt for high-value strategic success.
Pipelines ain't all they cracked up to be, in a war zone.

NBC and ABC should have their licenses brought up for review and potential stripping, for failing one of their key mission objectives, serving the public interest. All sides might reserve the right to challenge the views of their political opponents, but refusing to air the address of a President is tantamount to attempting to muzzle him. And that is never in the public interest.

The battleship USS New Jersey fought in WWII but was pulled out of the water and was made into a museum in 1943.
A quick look at Wikipedia confirms that there have been three US Navy ships named New Jersey, two battleships and a submarine. The last is apparently in or near the Persian Gulf.

Having the air conditioning on creates a positive pressure inside the house. It'll tend to keep the smoky air out. Use the losely woven blue air filters. The tightly woven white one with the metal grid make your system work too hard and may cause your refrigeration coil to ice up.
