"Given all of this newly discovered information, it is difficult to attribute the widespread damage to the reflecting pool to vandalism."

Wrote Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney.

One could read that headline to mean that the work done to the pool was botched OR that the prosecutorial work was botched. But the first sentence of the article makes it clear: "Federal prosecutors on Friday acknowledged that contractors hired by the Trump administration had 'botched' the renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool."

Ok so the great pool mystery has been solved. Thanks Ms. Pirro. Too bad the Leftwing extremists, motivated by hate of Trump and the Republican party want a pool to look bad, but I guess no crime was committed.

mccullough ayon kay ...

Contractors need to fix it.

bagoh20 ayon kay ...

I'm good with that, and pleased if that's what happened. I would be very unhappy to find out that people would hate Trump so much they would vandalize their own country's monuments out of partisan spite. That would really be a horrible thing to find out. I'm glad it doesn't happen.

Aught Severn ayon kay ...

I will pat myself on the back for calling it pretty well back when this all started. Modern material science can produce some magic outcomes, but you need to follow the prep and curing schedule to a T or things just won't work.

I guess this means I won the office pool...*ducks*

I wouldn't want to be a contractor that's unwilling to guarantee their work when the client is the feds. Idjits.

All those rants about traitorous leftists here were a giant steaming load, as expected. Poor Achilles.

Indefinitely Extended Excursion™️ ayon kay ...

This is hilarious considering all the attention the Althouse commentariat gave to it.

This is just another courtroom triumph for the crack Pirro legal team. Hearn should immediately sue the government for $10 billion or whatever round number Trump usually picks when filing one of his lawsuits.

bagoh20 ayon kay ...

There was definitely vandalism right next to it in the grass with the 8647, so it was a good bet, but if this turns out to be the truth about the pool, I hope Trump and other officials learn to keep their powder dry next time. I assumed they had more evidence and that was an unforced error. "Trust but verify", which means don't trust. If I was a lesser man, I'd change my handle about now.

DINKY DAU 45 ayon kay ...

Yes agreed only a fool believed Pirro and trump on the vandalism bullcrap. Pirro should be sanctioned ,trump is immune so business as usual, tell a lie he knows is bull and then OH WELL. easy wager. Next Comey walks, another trumped up charge and Jack Smith in good shape hoping DISCOVERY comes into play JACK SMITH WALKS, more of the ABRREGO GARCIA SCENARIO DOJ= department of jugheads, how many up in here went all in on this VANDALS LIE.. you can go back and count em.. :( Pirro adds to her losing record , Judges need to start sanctioning these bogus cases..

bagoh20 ayon kay ...

A crime is suspected. A suspect is identified. Evidence is gathered followed by charges, and then more evidence is gathered, but if it doesn't support the crime, the charges are dropped and the mistake is admitted. That's the difference between law and lawfare, where the only thing considered is who the suspect is and the rest is manufactured, with judge and venue shopping, and corrupt law enforcement carried out regardless of the evidence or the law. It's refreshing to see honest law for a change.

It's good to see the lefties get a win for a change, especially one that's not bad for the country as is the custom. It's a really super big win too. The pool will be beautiful like never before. Bigly Beautiful Pool! Thank you Trump, and all you winners who didn't vandalize it. Unity at last. God Bless America!

It’s a great metaphor for the whole administration. A complex problem that’s completely underestimated, addressed with minimal thought and maximum grift along with zero accountability.

It's like a well played summer comedy blockbuster film, but real.

Will this be Trump's Super Pool before his Reign end?

bagoh20 ayon kay ...

No way around it - the pool is much better than before Trump, was done twice in far less time and at far less cost than the previous single attempts. The big difference? Nobody had TDS before to make a simple repair job into a political story for weeks for no good purpose.

Howard ayon kay ...

This isn't a "win" for anybody.

Indefinitely Extended Excursion™️ ayon kay ...

Trump couldn’t admit that he personally hired an unqualified contractor who botched the pool project and stuck taxpayers with a multimillion-dollar bill. So he had the Fox host he installed as U.S. attorney indict an innocent man—because admitting your own mistake is apparently less appealing than manufacturing a scapegoat.

Smilin' Jack ayon kay ...

“ Ms. Pirro said that the pool’s new blue coating had actually started to peel within two days of the project’s completion, and that the Interior Department kept that fact from prosecutors, telling them that “nearly all of the damage” was done by vandals.”

Seems like some kind of crime was committed here. Just not by Hearn.

Yeah. Because one instance of shoddy work on the Reflecting Pool erases aaaaaalll the other bullshit you've done.

*Not surprising.*

Actually, it IS surprising it wasn't more leftist vandalism.

See, when the sun comes up in the east every morning, you begin to take it for granted. So, it's nice to see the sun come up in the west for once.

Given the recent history of leftists acting out in either violence or destruction in and of all things Trump or thought to be Trumpian, one can see that just this once it wasn't so. Still winning, while Democrats are stuck pondering how close they came to electing a Nazi as a Senator from Maine. Remember the Maine!

Breezy ayon kay ...

Oh look at that - “newly discovered information” gets shared and the course is corrected! Admitting mistakes is a sign of a well-functioning organization.

@Breezy, you know that and I know that but Democratic Socislists or non-STEM university professors or other useless consumers of O2 molecules to grasp the concept.

D.D. Driver ayon kay ...

Admitting mistakes is a sign of a well-functioning organization.

Now do "starting a war in Iran." Will we get any admission of a mistake?

Anyway, the administration didn't "admit its mistake." They had a criminal case and could not prove it. What were the options. They started a criminal case against an innocent man and had to dismiss the charges. What were the other options? They were not going to get a conviction.

It's like praising a football team for punting on fourth and 30. Really? Okay, Corky!

You really do need to read though all the absolute stupidity in this thread. It's so entertaining.

Ann called the fake vandalism "easy and clever." 🤦‍♂️

Then there were the fake pool lining experts and all the MAGA bobbleheads nodded along. 🤣 Peak Althouse commenting section. All the retards were out.

Believing that this was sabotage is the rightwing version of believing that Jesse Smollet was assaulted. It's the same sickness, different political persuasion.

Thank you for this.

Freder Frederson ayon kay ...

"Admitting mistakes is a sign of a well-functioning organization."

They weren't "mistakes", they were lies and pure fantasy. And just because the lies became so obvious and Trump wanted to put people in jail to cover up his fuck up, makes the claim that this reflects a "well functioning organization" pathetic.

rcommal ayon kay ...

So, back to Occam's Razor: a rushed job, insufficient curing, and wasn't there some heavy vehicles that were driven on the surface? What there wasn't was the claimed gash the length of which varied but went up from 250 feet over time to 300 yards. That just wasn't true at all, but was loudly proclaimed. Those claims were actually lies. I simply don't see any other way to characterize them.

If this happened with the sides reversed under the Biden administration, the accused would be railroaded and convicted with no admission of mistaken charges, as with Jan. 6th defendants or school board protestors who were clearly innocent but forced into plea bargains to avoid bankruptcy and ruin to their families. It's nice to see truth and justice win out for a change. "We just needed a new President."

It’s refreshing after Democrat lawfare to see federal prosecutors follow the evidence. OTOH, it was no stretch to think that seditious Democrats would desecrate a national monument to “get Trump.”

n.n ayon kay ...

With a pool of observation, upon further reflection, there was an inflection at a point.

Freder Frederson ayon kay ...

"It’s refreshing after Democrat lawfare to see federal prosecutors follow the evidence. "

They didn't follow the evidence. They claim that the Department of Interior did not give them the evidence before they filed charges. The president, his press secretary and even boxwine Pirro spent weeks spewing fake stories about horrible people defacing and destroying the lining (after Trump claimed you couldn't cut it with a knife or boxcutter).

Indefinitely Extended Excursion™️ ayon kay ...

Hilarious 😂

“I disagree 100% with Jeanine Pirro on the Reflecting Pool. I don’t know what she was thinking? To me, it was a pure case of VANDALISM, that included the grass, which had a big 86 47 emblazoned …There may have been some contractor difficulty, but major damage was caused by VANDALS!” ~ Donald J Trump

Hearn's legal team will next pursue getting all of the Grand Jury transcripts, which will doubtless reveal DOJ attorneys lying and misrepresenting both facts and law. That will be followed by requests for sanctions and defense cost recovery, and referrals to state bar associations to disbar the incompetent DOJ hacks.

bagoh20 ayon kay ...

"Well, I guess that is kind of an apology."

Apology for what? The legal system working as it should for a change. An innocent suspect being cleared? I don't need to apologize for things being done right by the people I voted for. Buy a mirror.
