I just wanted to get a look at the refilling of the newly blue Reflecting Pool.

But I couldn't avoid seeing this video, shared by Trump:

I guess that's an effort to visualize what has become the stock joke: The pool will be filled with "liberal tears."

ADDED: Actual footage, showing how the color will work out:

I am told salt water pools are lower maintenance, so win-win.

rehajm ayon kay ...

There’s now an FBI 10 most wanted fraudsters list. Since fraud is the largest source of Democrat support that should fill that reflecting pool right fast. Not sure what will happen to all the other tears…back to the ocean? Is there a market for exports?

Quaestor ayon kay ...

Salty enough for marine fish?

John henry ayon kay ...

Took me a moment to figure out. I thought he was filling the pool with the blue water they use to flush airplane toilets with.

“Trump looked at a broken reflecting pool and treated it like a pool.

Not a symbol. Not a “public memory space”. Not a stakeholder process. Not a graduate seminar in aquatic democracy. A fucking pool.

So the Washington brain goes: we need consultants, historians, aquatic equity advisors, a 9 month environmental impact meditation and an interpretive plaque about water as contested space.

Trump brain goes: is the pool fucked up? Call the pool guys.

It really is this simple.”

If you insist on behaving like a spoiled brat in public and someone shots a video of you doing it where you have no reasonable expectation of privacy, then NO SOUP FOR YOU, copyright-wise. And so the Hillary Hulk will forever be the public domain image of political insanity.

I'm no fan of the Trump branding of everything, and someone he trusts should talk to him about it, but can you imagine how much good could be done, if they just let this lifelong successful builder, clean up the country, which has been neglected for decades. I'm often amazed and embarrassed by how wonderful some much lesser countries can make their cities with a fraction of our resources and pride. Long the envy of the world, our infrastructure is no loner exceptional and sometimes not even first world, despite often having a 100 year head start.

Quaestor ayon kay ...

It's much like that other vicious brat Nicholas Scelfo. Even if he beats the rap, his future is forever scarred by the public domain video of him making threats to murder and entire family. Welcome to your bright future in fast food preparation, Nicky.

Quaestor ayon kay ...

bagoh20 ayon kay ...

That's too bad. If she had gotten help, she could have made the best of it and be laughing about it today. I really hate what the left is doing to people mentally. It's pure evil. It makes them angry, unhinged, unhappy, and dangerous to themselves and the rest of us. Politics never required that before.

Quaestor ayon kay ...

"[Jessica Starr] died by suicide in 2018, approximately 1 year after she made internet history."

Blogger is such an inadequate platform. Please imagine a line of hysterically laughing smiley emojis here, about thirty of them.

However, I think this is a case of mistaken identity. Jessica Starr, the howling lunatic, shares her name with another Jessica Starr, a TV meteorologist (i.e., a weather girl) for a Fox station in Detroit who offed herself in December, 2018 over eye surgery left her partially blind.

The other Jessica Starr seems to alive, kicking, and regretting her entire existence to this very day.

President Trump isn't allowed to restore our fountains and monuments, or build stunning structures showcasing American craftsmanship, engineering, and architectural excellence. Apparently, government spending is only acceptable when it's funding drag queens, the Taliban, Somalian pirates, and the pockets of Ukrainian oligarchs.

Looks pretty reflecty.

Hassayamper ayon kay ...

Long the envy of the world, our infrastructure is no loner exceptional and sometimes not even first world, despite often having a 100 year head start.

That's deliberate. There is a strong current on the left holding that filth and squalor and decay are desirable, because they consider America filthy and dirty, and our public spaces should reflect that. Nowadays workmen in Portland or Seattle who clean graffiti off buildings can expect passers-by to abuse them for being "fascists", as that TikTok clip that went around a couple of weeks ago showed.

If it's fascism to enjoy clean, safe parks and monuments and public buildings, then I say Heil Trump and we could do with a lot more fascism.

Quaestor ayon kay ...

The pool water won't look blue. Because of the gray liner, it will reflect like a mirror, as was intended from the beginning.

Quaestor ayon kay ...

Hail Trump.

boatbuilder ayon kay ...

From Poolfits (a pool liner supplier):

Dark liners (navy, midnight blue, black) absorb more light and create a sophisticated, mirror-like effect. Water appears deeper, more dramatic, and can look almost black on overcast days. These liners are trending upward in 2026 for modern and contemporary designs.
A black pool liner creates a deep, dramatic mirror-like or dark reflective navy blue appearance in the water. Instead of a bright, tropical blue, the dark background absorbs light to produce a luxurious, pond-like effect that beautifully reflects the surrounding sky and landscaping.

My wife and I are having a pool installed (as soon as the county gets around to approving the permit, which may be a while). We are going with a nearly black color.

Well, yeah, pretty much. Corruption, grift, and protecting pedos is the core of the modern Democrat party. Oh, and marrying your sibling (Ilyan). I'm struggling to think of a single thing Democrats stand for that is good right now. "We must let the most violent criminals and rapists free to prey on Americans because OrangeManBad! Go Go China and Xi! All hail Iran's Muslim terrorism! Death to the Jews and Christians!" Let alone the "Somalis have a constitutional right to steal as much taxpayer money as possible... as long as they kick back a ton to democrats!" that is the chief economic strategy of today's Democrat party. And we haven't even discussed the love of murdering children, the "no depravity unturned" LGBT, the "chop off body parts of the kids who survive our Temples to Moloch" and more.

I'm with jim5103. I thought it was Blue and everyone was appalled. Was it always supposed to be black?

It was always meant to be a very dark blue, as it obviously is.

A deeper layer of waterproofing was a lighter blue color earlier in the project, and it really set off the howler monkeys of the Left. But oh, what deranged fools they look like now.

They'll move on to some other manufactured outrage shortly, and the news media scum will ensure the reflecting pool flap goes down the Memory Hole and stays there.

Something similar will happen with the Trump Ballroom.

Hassayamper ayon kay ...

Yep, that's been pretty much the pattern since I was a boy. There were a few exceptions like My Lai, but otherwise, you could set your compass 180 degrees from whatever Ted Kennedy or Joe Biden was babbling about and know you were on the side of truth and light.

Trump wants something that works good, lasts a long time and saves money.

Reducing opportunity for graft and corruption is wasteful in the eyes of the swamp creatures. From their point of view something is ideal that has to be constantly and expensively repaired and maintained, must be completely redone after a short time and costs a ridiculous amount in the first place.

Dude1394 ayon kay ...

This is pretty common with government. Especially city government which is predominantly democrat. Maintenance doesn't allow for graft and it is not exciting. It is much better to let things go to hell and then be the one spending dollars to fix it, passing it out to supporters. Maintenance doesn't allow any of that. The pool is an example, it may have needed fixing, but anyone could have gotten rid of the algae and the trash in the old one. Anyone could have beautified the fountains and gotten rid of the graffitti. But it doesn't allow politicians to preen, so it doesn't get done.

Kind of like rental property.

I painted some grillwork on my front door with epoxy paint. I spattered and spilled some on the concrete under it.

That was in 84 or so. The spatters were still there a couple months ago when we redid the patio a couple months ago.
Tain't cheap. I still had a job and bought a lot of paint for the company from Mobile Paint. They gave me a good price but it still was not cheap.

Yes, the Bears are moving to beeyootiful metropolitan Hammon, IN (Howard Cosell voice). About a 20 mile drive from Soldier field in Chicago, but in a different world. Still, I guess the fan draw was thought to be higher from Metro Chicago than from, say, Indianapolis which is a couple of hours away.

I wonder how big the tax break is.

Indiana is NOT for certain. The tax breaks and incentives are in the billions. Fan draw? NE Indiana are Bear fans, but most will come from Chicago and suburbs, as they always have. There will be no name change. Just like many teams before them, Giants, Jets, Rams, Chargers, 49ers, Cowboys, Patriots, and Bills.

Mike (MJB Wolf) ayon kay ...

Kind of like rental property… rent controlled

As Dude# and the Leaper suggest, Trump’s approach to solving and fixing broken things in DC is unlike typical democrat graft-enabling habits. That’s why Obama’s “fix” cost thirty times more than Trump’s approach yet fell back into disrepair before Obama’s term was over.

Why liken it to rent control? Because Mamdami just revealed the trick. Rent controls were imposed by prior city leaders, starving the owners of the ability to keep repairs current by increasing their costs but limiting the income. Now Da Mayor has a plan to condemn the property and seize it for reassignment to new owners. But the plan doesn’t have a way to fix the buildings, just take ownership.

Commies are always takers and destroyers not builders. Like Tom Steyer. Hasan Piker. The Vermont Oligarch. The Maine Nazi. Only wealthy pampered theatre kids can afford to be socialists in America.

john mosby ayon kay ...

Don't have to change the Bears' city name if they move to Indiana. Both NY football teams play in NJ, but still call themselves NY teams. The Detroit Lions played for years in Pontiac, but still called themselves the Detroit Lions. &c.

Most of the people who can afford Bears tickets don't live in the city anyway. A lot actually live in Indiana, which has better taxes for regular people, too. Even the people in the western Chicago suburbs can take the freeways all the way around the city to get to an Indiana stadium, faster than the clogged expressways inside the city and the last mile of surface streets to Soldier Field.

Speaking of clogged: regarding "Da Bears" sketch: one of the running gags in it was the guys would have mini-heart attacks at bad sports news, because of their horrible diets. Two of the guys, George Wendt and Chris Farley, have passed away IRL. If they do an ep about leaving Soldier Field, the remaining characters could have the big one. CC, JSM

Trump explores federal government acquiring shares in AI companies ~ TechCrunch

"President suggests ‘partnership’ will ease voter concerns about the technology ahead of November’s midterm elections"

The only way the US can take a stake in anything is by issuing more debt on top of the $40T it has already borrowed.

I’m sure this will go down well with the MAGA base.

Well, at least the war with Iran is over and the energy crisis resolved. At least, I assume it is given it’s been replaced in the news cycle by Trump focusing on the issues the public cares about like painting the Reflecting Pool, building the ballroom and using the Trump White House as a venue for a UFC cage fight.
