If the president denies them access to any classified information, he is required to explain why to Congress within 15 days.

This comes on top of section 422, the House passed, which all but merged our military with the IDF, and gives them access to US weapons and technology without any public votes, and ties the hand of any president to apply pressure to Israel.

Vice President Vance warned Israeli officials Thursday against speaking out and criticizing the peace deal negotiated by President Trump’s administration with Iran, suggesting Israel should be grateful for partnership with the U.S. while it is isolated on the international stage.

“If I was in the Cabinet of the Israeli government, I might not be attacking the only powerful ally that I have anywhere left in the entire world,” Vance said at a press conference at the White House.

“The other thing that I would say is that over the last three months, two-thirds of the defensive weapons that protected your homeland have been built by American hands and paid for by American tax dollars.”

Vance was responding to a question about a report in Axios that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is “fuming” over the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the U.S. and Iran.

Vance said the report is “not reflective of the conversations that I’ve had with him, but maybe he’s saying something to somebody else that he’s not saying to me.”

Trump and Netanyahu’s clashes have spilled out in public, with the president cursing the Israeli leader for taking military actions in Lebanon that he said threatened the deal with Iran. Netanyahu has acknowledged that he and Trump don’t always see “eye to eye” and has promised to put Israel’s security first.

As details of the MOU emerged, Israeli officials across the political spectrum slammed the deal as one that ties the hand of Israel to address threats from Hezbollah in Lebanon and from Iran and its proxies. They have further criticized Netanyahu for failing to influence Trump’s negotiations with Iran.

A key pillar of the MOU with Iran is a ceasefire in Lebanon. Senior administration officials have said that they expect Iran to hold back Hezbollah from attacking Israel, but Trump and Vance have also criticized Israel as overreacting to Hezbollah strikes.; 18-06-26 3:36 PM

The reduction in federal employees was offset by a matching reduction in programs/initiatives. As many requirements are set by Congress and annual budgets, the same stuff continues per the law. The Trump people reviewed the agencies legal obligations very early in 2025 to cut as much as possible, but found that there are many legal obligations. So, current employees are now 'filling in' for others and doing stuff that must happen and learning on the job.

Maui fire survivors receive first settlement award notices
First notices issued Wednesday from $4 billion global settlement (Hawaii News Now)

"Survivors of the 2023 Maui fires began receiving notices Wednesday detailing how much money they could receive from a $4 billion global settlement.

Sanford Hill, 75, is among nearly 22,000 people still waiting for their share of the settlement.

“It’s been rough,” said Hill.

Hill was living at Hale Mahaolu Eono, senior housing that was destroyed in the fire.

He now reluctantly lives on Kauai desperate for settlement money so he can afford to move back home to Maui.

“They’re saying we’re not going to be made whole. What they’re not saying is how much we’re not going to be made whole,” Hill said.

Maui attorney Jan Apo, a Lahaina native, said the notices do not represent actual payments.

“What I want to make clear for everybody, from my clients as well as everybody out there, the notice of determination is not an actual payment,” Apo said. “It is an offer to settle your claim, and then you need to respond and accept it or reject it.”

Apo, born and raised in Lahaina, has been practicing law for more than three decades and lost two family homes in the fire.

He sent an email to his clients last week warning them that other lawyers may be fighting Judge Peter Cahill’s unprecedented ruling to reduce attorney’s fees so survivors get more money.

Apo said he agrees with Cahill’s decision.

“We want the Lahaina fire victims to get their compensation as soon as possible,” Apo said. “This is a limited fund, a compromised settlement. No one’s going to get paid their whole damages, but everybody’s going to get something to help them through.”

Claimants have 30 days to accept the amount or contest it.

“The settlement administrators need to get a number of the claims back in their hands so they can do the math to determine the percentage,” Apo said.

That process could take months.

Apo said no attorney has challenged Cahill’s order so far.

Hill said he hopes it stays that way.

“The ones that don’t, they should be well known as far as who they are,” Hill said.

If any attorney challenges it, payments will be delayed.
