A broiler sunrise..

I asked Meade how he chose that song for the soundtrack and he said he was just looking for something "lively."

I said that song has great lyrics and regretted that we only get the first verse because my favorite line is the second line of verse 2: "The Coolerator was crammed with TV dinners and ginger ale."

I love the slogan: "The Air Conditioned Refrigerator."

Here are all the lyrics to the Chuck Berry song. Verse 1: A teenage wedding. Verse 2: They have an apartment. Verse 3: They play music and have sex. Verse 4: They get a car, a "souped-up jitney."

Hey- finally a match with the old folks! That one’s on my playlist, along with a few others from Pulp Fiction…

I like the old folks wished them well instead of being sour scolds for them effing up their lives so young…

Coolerator. It must have the lead balloon of kitchen conveniences, since it has left no imprint on language like Frigidaire has, but then, the French are so impressionable.

It's not too late. It really is a way better word that "refrigerator." I do still like "ice box." Can we bring that back?

Yah refrigerator sounds like trying again because it didn’t fridge the first time…

"There is only one Coolerator."

One must have confidence in one's product, but such braggadocio is self-defeating. The beauties in cocktail dresses and sable capes was a particularly maladroit detail. The hausfraus of the early 1930s weren't the starstruck ninnies who would be convinced by Hollywood endorsements. Today that would work like gangbusters.

Jude Cole is Coolerator.

BTW, I like steel ice cube trays. But plastic ones are more available and cheaper. But that might not last if the straits of Hormuz stays closed.

Chuck Berry always reminds me of James Brown, because I think they are tied for the Hardest Working Man in Show Business. He wrote some great songs, but I'll never forget how he punked the Beatles.

"I do still like 'ice box.' Can we bring that back?"

Sure. Why not? Let's put it to The People. We'll call it the Refrigerator Referendum.

Finally. Italian repose.

Coolerator's claim to being the "air conditioned refrigerator" seems dubious. How does air conditioning make one more comfortable? By cooling the body or by reducing the humidity? Don't bother to look. It's reducing humidity. American submarines in WWII were unique in that they were air conditioned. All subs of the era were either too warm or too cold inside, but Gatos, Balaos , and Tench-class fleet boats defeated the suffocating dampness of all other submersible warships of the period. So what would air conditioning achieve in a refrigerator?

Mr. Everyguy: Honey, these leftover veal cutlets are deliciously desiccated.

Mrs. Everyguy: It's thanks our new Coolerator refrigerator.

Mr. Everyguy: You mean the one approve by the Hollywood stars?

Mrs. Everyguy: Yes, dear. The Coolerator de-humidifies everything left in it more than a day -- veal, chicken, rice, -- what goes in soft comes out crunchy!

Mr. Everyguy: Great! From now on let's only have leftovers. No more freshly cook dinners.

How do you say "frigid air" without infringing on the inventor of self-contained refrigerators, Frigidaire of 1918? I guess by calling it "the air conditioned refrigerator."

Clones and patents and trademarks. Oh my.

The term 'air conditioning' was originally coined for the textile mill business, where open-air conditions frequently led to the breakage of the yarns, as they were being spun into thread. Originally, air conditioning was used to control the humidity inside the mills, to a dramatically beneficial effect, but the side benefit of cooling was quickly recognized as kind of nice, too. The term 'air conditioning', as far as I can tell, was originally coined by Parks-Cramer company, a maker of such dehumidifying equipment.

It is because the implementation of cooling is the same, or similar. Consult your Thermodynamics textbook.

I always though coolerator was just an old time (regional?, black?) term for refrigerator. You learn something new every day.

I first heard the term "coolerator" from the excellent cover of this song by Emmylou Harris in 1976. I reasoned it was some sort of a refrigerator and moved on.

Today I learned that the word is not "cool-rator", the word I believed I heard on the original and the cover. Never too old to learn things.

Chuck Berry was a great songwriter and performer, a pretty formidable combination. He avoided the all too common fate of death by airplane.

Similar, not the same. Refrigeration systems that retain acceptable humidity inside for the preservation of desirable food moisture is what killed the ice box.

My favorite line in this song was always:
They bought a souped up jitney 'twas a cherry red '53
They drove it down to Orleans to celebrate the anniversary

Instead of choosing songs, why not create one, music and lyrics, using Suno.com?

In Mexico natural gas or propane refrigerators are common due to power outages. The fuel boils a water ammonia mixture and the expanding gas absorbs heat which cools the load by thermochemical circulation. No compressor no noise, but somewhat less efficient.
