Wow, that's one of my favorite headlines ever.
In New York Magazine, here.
Context: "The man filmed casually eating a salad as everyone else ducked for cover after shots rang out at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner is speaking out. CAA Agent Michael Glantz told TMZ that he never felt unsafe at the event, and remained seated and eating because he wanted to see how law enforcement responded. 'Not every day you see something like that go down,' he said. Glantz was at the dinner because he is CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer’s agent."I love that his name sounds like it means a quick look — glance — but he's the one who wanted to maintain a steady gaze.

Hey man, I'm just here for dinner and a show.
The police probably wanted everyone to "Get down" not just to be safe but so they could have an unobstructed view. We know now there was just one shooter, but the police can't go on that assumption.
Anyway, I agree with Salad guy, if hear guns go off and 1 minute later Trump and Company are off the stage the risk is minimal. If it was a good main course, i would've kept on eating but salad? I wouldn't risk my life for iceberg lettuce.
The glanz on that guy!
Glantz is shine, luster, splendor, as in "Glantz und Elend," Splendor and Misery.
Like the Falangist and Commie legislators who refused to get on the floor during the seizure of the Cortes. And I don’t mean AOC! CC, JSM
His eating through the commotion reminded me of how Tom Hagan kept shoveling it in as Jack Woltz harangued him about why Johnny Fontane would never get that movie,

Thanks for making me see the ambiguity. Fixed by changing "his name seems to mean" to "his name sounds like it means."
IF they had made it to the entree then I would have done like Glantz and calmly ate my plate. At least that's what I told the Mrs. yesterday. My thinking was "the principles will be whisked away, the LEO will stand their ground and everybody else will hit the floor. Is an assassin really going to waste time shooting the only guest still dining?"
Funny there actually was a guy who tried it. See, he survived!
A published contagion can be aborted through literary inoculation that induces sterilizing immunity. But we should be wary of a self-replicating jab in order to limit its chilling effect.
"One of the meanings of the English word "glance" is "to cause a flash of light by rapid movement; †Scottish to shine. Of light: To dart, flash, gleam" (OED)."
It's used that way in "Uncle Tom's Cabin": "An insane light glanced in her heavy black eyes."
That's a verb, but it's also a noun. Definition: "A sudden movement producing a flash or gleam of light; also, the flash or gleam itself" (OED).
Sir Walter Scott used it like that in "The Lady of the Lake": "The silver light, with quivering glance, Played on the water's still expanse."
Pardon me. Would you pass the shaker.
A glance perchance to dance.
***POLICE Bulletin*****
You will Save the Soviet Press leaders - let the other take a bullet.
*de-fund the police* - to fill the ranks with that attitude.
That's the guy you want walking point. He doesn't have the sense to get down so he's going to catch the first bullet. That way you can tell where the firing is coming from.
Never let a salad go to waste.
This guy is kind of like the cat in that girl-cat salad-eating meme.
It took me a few tries to pick the guy casually eating salad out of the sea of people casually taking phone videos.
Others appeared relatively unfazed. Lloyd Blankfein, the former chief executive of Goldman Sachs, was sitting with CBS News journalists toward the front of the room when the emergency occurred. As the confusion unfolded, Mr. Blankfein turned to his seatmate and asked, “Are you going to finish that salad?” ~ NYT
It should be noted -- the WHCD assailant (Cole Thomas Allen) was never on the same floor as the diners in the main ballroom. He ran through a security checkpoint/perimeter and got as close as one floor above.
Sang-froid in action.
Poor Wolf,
The best date he could get was his agent?
John Henry
It would have been better if the waiter was there putting fresh, cracked black pepper on his salad.
If you didnt have hangers-on like this guy, you probably could fit the dinner in the new EW ballroom. CC, JSM
Am I the only one who doesn't see him in this video? There are a number of people who remain seated and aren't obviously doing anything. I don't see anybody who is still eating.
Limit it to actual press pool members who've been in at least one WH presser and one AF1 trip in the past year. Or maybe one a month, so pompous pompadours dont all cram into the Brady Room in December. And no plus-ones. CC, JSM
Tim: They highlight him in the first 5 seconds. I didn't spot it at first either.
Maybe he really did sit and calmly eat as the rest of the people dove beneath the tables, but in the video he seems to be the only one not standing and filming with their cell phone.
I am Placid Salad Eater! Look upon my works ye mighty, and despair!
If You Can Keep Your Head When Everybody Round You Is Losing His, Then It Is Very Probable That You Don’t Understand the Situation.
Former Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein reportedly asked someone under the table if he was going to finish his salad while calmly continuing his meal.
Well he has spent a lot of time in Dem administrations, so the sight of a bunch of newsies going under the table wasn't much of a shock, iykwim. CC, JSM
Did anyone else see the video of the female guest (based on attire) grabbing bottles of wine from tables as she was being evacuated from the ballroom?
When I lived in Europe the bar I was in got raided by masked gunmen, cops as it turns out, but it wasn't clear at the time. The gal next to me calmly lit a cigarette. I remarked to her how calm she was, she said, "Well I used to live in Libya, so..."
