Do you think maybe this could be a clue that the WaPo is perhaps being a tad disingenuous in their reporting?

One conclusion which could be drawn from your posting this is that you are a little dim and easily led. But I don't think that's the reason.

Chuck--you've seen the videos. What information does the NYT conveniently leave out?
a) Pretti for some unexplained reason grabs the female with the backpack and violently hauls her to the ground, into the Border Patrol officers;
b) Pretti is initially on the ground and then either gets up to his knee or is hauled up by the agents (hard to tell) immediately before the shots.

Do you think either of these facts is significant?
Do you wonder why the NYT left them out?
Aren't you curious?

It's not just that they're killing peaceful protesters—it's that they then step in front of the cameras and openly lie about it, slandering the victims by insisting that what we can clearly see on video never happened.

Trump’s deployment of ICE to the city is essentially an experiment: a deliberate White House effort to test the limits—how far they can push and what resistance they’ll face—in their broader push to expand presidential power.

But Minnesotans are showing they won’t bend the knee. And that defiance is genuinely unsettling to them.

Beasts of England చెప్పారు...

’…how far they can push and what resistance they’ll face…’

Odd how the resistance exists in only one state. And the enforcement of laws is not an expansion of power, it’s a proper role of the executive branch. On the bright side: there’s still time for you to get to Minnesota, Brave Sir Kak!!

Breezy చెప్పారు...

Random people protesters have no clue how law enforcement agents are trained. If they did, they wouldn’t want to be anywhere near them, threatening or resisting, with an undeclared weapon. I doubt random people have even given a thought about the depth of danger they are putting themselves in when they do this.

This may very well have been accidental or unjustified in a traditional narrow sense, but justified nonetheless given the complexities of the event, including the whistling that hampered hearing, the instigating attempt to box in LE, the pepper spray not working as a deterrent (why was that?), the two women in close proximity, the violent resistance by the victim who somehow managed to not get pinned down with five agents trying to corral him (how was that possible?) and the undeclared weapon.

In a way, you could just say that Kak is throwing out boob bait, but it's more studied than that, I think.

The groups use emojis next to members' names to denote specific roles. You've got mobile patrols driving around searching for federal vehicles. Foot patrols are working the streets. Dispatchers are running constant calls directing people where ICE has been spotted and how best to interfere with their operations. License plate checkers maintain databases of known federal vehicles. Even medics are standing by. They're running shift changes, clocking in and out, just like any organized operation.'

All to stop the enforcement of federal immigration laws.

I believe you have this backwards. No other city, blue or not, is exhibiting this resistance behavior. Why is that? No other city wants the chaos, or at least sees it as a bad thing for their political popularity. MN has a 100k strong Somali voting block that is ripe with fraud, enabled by local leaders. The safe guarding of that block, Democrat cash, and the freedom of all involved is real. IMHO.

Alex Pretti was a member of the Kingfield Signal ICE watch group. Jeanne Massey, who coordinates rapid response for these networks, confirmed Pretti's involvement. She describes her role as patrolling neighborhoods when ICE is spotted, alerting residents, and witnessing what she calls the "horror" of enforcement operations. After Pretti was shot, Massey rushed to the scene along with many other Minneapolis residents. She claims she watched ICE officers charge into the crowd and deploy tear gas against people who had gathered there.

"Let me be clear: we are horrified, we are furious, and we are not going to pretend this is anything but what it is - another senseless act of violence carried out by federal agents in our city," she said.

What Massey conveniently leaves out is what Pretti was doing there in the first place. He showed up at an active federal law enforcement operation carrying a loaded weapon and extra ammunition. Video footage shows Border Patrol agents attempting to disarm him before the fatal shooting.

Yes, he worked as an ICU nurse, but he also chose to involve himself in organized resistance against immigration enforcement, armed and ready for confrontation."

Trump is doing what he promised he would do. Most of us agreed this needs to be done and voted for him. The resistance/temper tantrum is then more fundamentally against the majority of people who voted for Trump, not Trump himself.

Peachy చెప్పారు...

"The left wants you to see this as federal overreach. The reality is that these networks have created a dangerous environment in which activists deliberately interfere with law enforcement operations. They track agents around the clock, follow them, confront them, harass them, and apparently sometimes show up armed. Then they act shocked when agents act in self-defense and things turn deadly."

Gospace చెప్పారు...

Did Pretti have a concealed carry permit? Yes. Whether or not one should be required to have one is another question to which the answer is no, but it's MN. So let's go with it- he was licensed to carry.

Was he legally carrying? No. Apparently he had no ID on his body. MN law governing that required permit is government ID must be carried along with the weapon. Ooops- he was a lawbreaker carrying the weapon. Also- the law requires the actual permit be with you when carrying. Ooops! He didn't have that either. Lawbreaker! And true everywhere- you're not carrying legally if you're engaged in ANY criminal activity, like interfering with federal agents in the performance of their duty. Strike 3. It's totally immaterial that he was licensed to carry if he he wasn't following the law on licensed carry.

There's also clear evidence he was part of a (MASSIVE!) conspiracy to obstruct federal law enforcement. There appears to be a rather sophisticate spotting operation run on Signal chat groups dispatching people to ICE locations. "Alex Pretti was a member of the Kingfield Signal ICE watch group. Jeanne Massey, who coordinates rapid response for these networks, confirmed Pretti's involvement." So this is not a spontaneous gathering of like minded people- it's an organized uprising. And that kind of organizing has money behind it. Money from whom is the question.

Peachy చెప్పారు...

My apologies for the bad choice of words Beast. Not “your” case. Got it.

“ The enforcement is happening across many states. And if Minnesota had cooperated with ICE then it wouldn’t be an issue. This is the responsibility of their elected officials, regardless of how it’s characterized.”

I hear the JD Vance quote that’s been channeled through PowerLine et al and while it’s rhetorically powerful, it’s analytically very weak.

It’s one thing to say cooperation can make enforcement smoother. It’s another to claim Walz or Frey could have prevented controversy entirely. Federal agents were operating under their own authority, and local officials are responding to public safety concerns and deaths that have already happened — not manufactured chaos. Coordination helps, but it doesn’t erase responsibility for controversial federal tactics.

Despite what these echo chambers tell you, Minnesota protests have been mainly calm and riot free.
