🚨 JUST IN: President Trump DOUBLES DOWN — promises to give $10,000 bonuses to Air Traffic Controllers who didn’t call out “sick” during the shutdown

Admirable he’s getting lefties to focus on spending- fly the plane over the football stadium, reward government workers. This is how he gloats…
Remember DOGE?
What happened to cutting our spending and not increasing the debt?
Instead Trump is proposing extra pay, also proposing $2k checks to everyone as a tariff rebate.
Last springs 'we are broke as a country' mantra seems forgotten.
^^^my point^^^
Trump should dress as Santa Claus and hand out the checks personally.
If it came to congress in the form of a bill you can bet the lefties will vote no.

...citing their abiding concern for fiscal responsibility and austerity measures.
"I always get the money from someplace."
A "Can Do" man.
I think he counts his wealthy donors, corporate and not, as prospective sources of money for some of these things. ATC bonuses, as an example, could be funded privately.
Maybe he can propose a 100% surtax on the 39 Democrat senators (38 + Bernie) who voted against cloture, and a 200% surtax for Rand Paul.
Where’s my $2k?? I need it to pay off a credit card.
Great work Rejahm! Too bad he’s too dense to understand the dunk on him.
If, according to Trump, the government lacks the tariff revenue to refund it all in the event of a SCOTUS loss, how can he be talking about giving away trillions in $2,000 checks?
Trump says the tariff money we've collected is already spent and we won't be able to pay it back. There was always a possibility he could lose this lawsuit and have to refund the tariffs. Didn't we prepare for that? He's running the government like he ran his casinos.
Trump's own lies are have no internal logic. If he believed his own BS about "Tariffs have earned us 17 trillion in just 10 short months!" then paying back 3 trillion would not be an issue.
’If it came to congress in the form of a bill you can bet the lefties will vote no.’
It should happen next October. And make it $5k. :)

Coming here is better than a comedy club...all the lefties pining for fiscal responsibility are a riot.
Tautologically correct in my opinion.
Mitigating, perhaps aborting progressive costs/prices originating in CMS... O and academia would provide a bonus for everyone. Tariffs rather than outsourcing, unPlanned parenthood rather than insourcing, environmental conservation rather than Green deals. A lot of choices are viable fetuses... features of economic productivity and capital returns.
It would cost $140M to pay $10K to all 14,000 air traffic controllers, and presumably some percentage will not be eligible. Trump could pay that out of the ballroom money.
His problem is, what about the other 716,000 federal employees he made work without pay for 42 days? Won’t they all want bonuses? Won’t they think it’s unfair if they don’t get the bonus money too? That would cost $7 billion.
I bet the Chinese loaded him up that last visit...
in exchange for letting hundreds of thousands of their students in. Lol. Everybody worrying about the poor Hispanics, when it's the Asians changing the face of AMerica today. See, Woodbury Minnesota. Minnesota is fairing well with the immigrants bring in their investment dollars here.
Maybe there should be more financial incentives for government employees.
From what I remember, the govt always pays its employees for the shutdown time, so they all should have been on duty without bonuses or accolades.
"... the other 716,000 federal employees he made work without pay for 42 days?..."
Did he, really? Tell us how, and take your time. Extra points if you use the word 'filibuster'.
“all the lefties pining for fiscal responsibility are a riot”
That fact is that over the last 50 years, the Democrats have been much more fiscally responsible than the Republicans. Look it up. It’s a truth.
"Where will Trump get the money to hand out $10,000 bonuses to air traffic controllers who showed up for work while the pay was not flowing?"
From the exact same place we got the $40 billion dollars we're borrowing this year to turn back on the Democrats' free food that I'm fucking paying for. That's where.
From the same place the FBI got the money to spy on Republican senators. Just use that money.
Always seems to be enough money to buy Democrat shit.
“…I always get the money from someplace."
SNAP for the haters. Life has been particularly hard on them these days ;-)
Going back to DOGE? How about we go back to a week when Democrat judges were demanding Trump get money from somewhere to fund SNAP. Either he has the power or he doesn't. Double standards are twice as fun.
A game of fizbin
On Tuesday.
“Tell us how, and take your time.”
Trump said it himself, “I always get the money from someplace.” He found a way to pay the military, he could have found a way to pay the civilian employees too.
"From what I remember, the govt always pays its employees for the shutdown time, so they all should have been on duty without bonuses or accolades."
Yes, Congress has always ended up paying furloughed employees for the time they were on furlough and not working. But, just to clarify, under the Anti Deficiency Act, furloughed federal employees CANNOT legally work while on furlough. If Congress wants to change the law, fine, but that's how it stands now.
“Maybe there should be more financial incentives for government employees.”
Meh. I’d rather see performance standards that would go a long way in ensuring competency and actual productive work being performed in exchange for compensation.
“I’ll get it from someplace.”

GenX and beyond are never going to see what they paid in, are they? The numbers just are not there, and nobody cares much about poverty in America anymore. Just pray they don't unleash another killer virus on us to cull the American population... This time, more than just the "essential" workers will get it. Remember them? The suckers who showed up every day, doing the jobs of multiple people while the nepo babies and the office-butt class "worked from home" and had their groceries ordered in? Some still do... So much for "we're all in this together. Do your part and you will be rewarded..."
You guys know that the government workers who were "struggling" these past 40 days reduced to eating from food banks are getting paid their wages 100% for those days they didn't have to work, right? I bet some of them are indeed cursing the crossover Dems today. lol
This country won't work until we realize that nobody gets out of here alive, and our fellow americans matter -- rich and poor. The boomers grabbed as much as they could, and taught their children to look out for themselves only....Not a compliment, but God indeed is watching, or karma's a cruel mistress... choose your religion.
You guys know what happens when some sectors are "rewarded" with extras, right? Whether it's the poor people having babies (baby bonus!) or the government workers/military getting extra pay.... it's the inflation, friends. THe honest hard workers who aren't good with money (in a sense of not being predator/parasite like and taking more than they give) simply get priced out, and then you lose their talents and skills in the marketplace too. It's a recipe for disaster, really. The connected ones with jobs don't really contribute as much as they think, working from home (or the dog park...)
Look at all the hyenas fighting over the rotten dregs of what little carcass remains of the shutdown
"His problem is, what about the other 716,000 federal employees he made work without pay for 42 days?"
This isn't really a problem. One of the effects of Government shut downs is as various services get affected it highlights to the American people what the Government does that really matters. During this Government shutdown the highlight was Air Traffic control. While it was rough for other Federal employees to not get paid, it the risk of Air Traffic control not working as needed seemed to carry the most sway. Federal employees as a class are basically just recipients of political patronage jobs from various politicians, mostly form Democrats. This includes most contractors as well. Since the Federal workforce already mostly votes for Democrats the Republicans now and over the next 10-20 years should focus on dividing the Federal workforce from the rest of Americans and not necessarily stigmatize them, but moderately paint them as lazy, entitled, and overpaid. It is a natural division point since normal Americans have to deal with the uncertainties of the economy and the job marketplace but Federal employees seem to not have to, and if there is an interruption they always get their backpay. Strategically this would be good for the country because people don't choose jobs merely based on pay but also status. If the the more negative the status becomes for being a Federal employee the easier it is to cut agencies, programs, and workforce size.
That fact is that over the last 50 years, the Democrats have been much more fiscally responsible than the Republicans. Look it up. It’s a truth.
Define your terms.
Was the withdrawal from Afghanistan fiscally responsible? The green new deal? Investments in solar companies that went bankrupt? Billions for electric charging stations and high-speed rail which were never built?
Waste, fraud, abuse, payoffs, and grants to insiders, illegal immigrants and favored groups without accountability is not “fiscal responsibility” even if you raise taxes to pay for it.
But, just to clarify, under the Anti Deficiency Act, furloughed federal employees CANNOT legally work...
---------
But what happens when the law/rules are not really followed anymore by the "Bigs" in our country? That's what is happening.
SNAP for the haters. Life has been particularly hard on them these days ;-)

Despite all the fake videos, you know these are the people who complain least, are least heard and have few genuine advocates... They don't take much, and that's why they are where they are. Many of them workers or elderly/children.
Rewarding the connected and wheels that squeak/scream the loudest doesn't seem to be helping the country as a whole.
lol @ DOUBLES DOWN
Who was the clever mind that came up with that phrase anyway? They must be eating good today! lololol
Democrats have lead the progress in debt and prices, thus the demand for welfare, "livable" wages, "insurance", arbitrage, loans, etc. And through it all they still found funds to abort babies by the millions, mutulate boys and girls, replace citizens with illegal aliens, promote and enforce Diversity (e.g. racism, sexism), and wage wars in darkness (e.g. Iran-Hamas Affair).
Lol. The "throw pennies and watch them scramble" entertainment? I'd much prefer the lions fighting the elites in the pits, myself... No. Guns. Allowed.

Still buttering your toast, eh proffy?
Bring back the unions, including government sector unions. If you have equal bargaining power, it's doubtful we keep artificially goosing the economy like this or selling out this group or that. Financial incentives for the productive!
We showed how willing they were to sacrifice nuclear security air traffic safety to make a point
’That fact is that over the last 50 years, the Democrats have been much more fiscally responsible than the Republicans.’
Then I’m glad we agree that entire federal agencies need to be eliminated. I love this new spirit of cooperation!!
"Coming here is better than a comedy club...all the lefties pining for fiscal responsibility are a riot."
They're not pining for fiscal responsibility, they just see the potential for money being spent that they don't get to grab a chunk of for themselves.
The Democratic shutdown only meant no new budgets and allocations. Some departments are more effective than others. The judge advising redistribution of school lunches for SNAP was probably a poor highlight.
Maybe they can cannibalize wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, etc, clear the Green blight, deport the illegal aliens, close the abortion chambers, and have money to spare. Planned CMS.. hOod and replace with affordable, available medical services for all with equal, not equivocal standards. Make America healthy and viable again.

Most, if not all, are unionized, and merit pay is generally a no-no under union rules. Everybody can share if there's a bonus. But don't dare let it be based on individual performance. That's the way it worked in our unionized insurance company.
How many bogus 'stimulus' programs just in the last 20 years
I remember when there was talk of paying bonuses to the "essential" workers (grocery, gas station, liquor store...) who showed up to work during COVID. It did not happen.
Granted, they weren't working without pay, but they deserved something for going in when all the other businesses were shut down. Mostly they deserved extra for putting up with the people who were bored of being at home and wanted to just go hang out for an hour while building occupancy was being limited.
I hope the ATC people are rewarded, but I can see it making some people salty.
Trump's $10k isn't really an incentive, it's a reward after the fact. They didn't know they would get this bonus so it didn't influence their decision to come to work.
Maybe there should be more financial incentives for government employees.
What kind of things do you want to incentivize government employees to do?
I’d incentivize some government employees to tell me what the Democrats are doing with the trillion dollars they shut down the government over…
No jourolist ever asks dems about their ability to pay for stuff.
oligarchy! tax the rich.
Air Traffic controllers should make big bucks. I have my reasons.
2 million illegal immigrants are gone. If they were costing the country a thousand bucks per month in housing, SNAP, education, medical care or whatever other costs, that's $24 billion.
We are told that immigrants are a net gain to the economy, but the low hanging fruit that ICE has deported and those who chose to leave, weren't bringing anything to the party.
An example of DJT talking without thinking it through first. Biden did that a lot too before they tightened his leash. DJT is famous for his undisciplined stream-of-consciousness rambling tbh. Giving $10k bonuses to helpful employees isn't the same as slipping a helpful service or hospitality worker a $50 or $100 bill out of your wallet when you're out on the town. DJT knows this too, but whatever, right? It ain't gonna be HIS money either because he'll "get it from somewhere". Sheesh. FTP.
They gave money to those who didnt need it, and not to those who did

Now we are doing stupid things like lowering mortgage standards
It would cost $140 million to pay $10K bonuses to every air traffic controller who works for the FAA. Trump could probably raise that money from his business friends pretty readily if he wanted to.
We incentivize good work
We could upgrade government infrastructure, but it would mean fewer government employees were necessary. Instead we spend money on waste and inefficiencies because the people making the decisions benefit from having more employees under them, not fewer. Perverse incentive.
We are spending US tax dollars to research how to prevent ladyboy prostitutes in Thailand from being stigmatized when they contract HIV. Should we cut that program or incentivize the researchers to research harder? Will they ever solve the problem so we can all move on? Why would they? There's no incentive.
@LBC: No. You said "He made them work without pay" and I said, 'Tell us how, and take your time'. Reading comprehension not your strong suit?
Trump = A 1990s centrist Democrat who was unhappy with the post-Obama direction of the party. He's now a Republican but still a spender and interventionist at heart (i.e., he's not a conservative).
Musk = A savant with magnificent tech development abilities, but a political child who didn't do his homework, who grossly overpromised with DOGE, and who delivered nothing at all. Wasted potential. Eating crow. Humble pie. Go back to your playpen, and suck down some more billions of government e-vehicle and space rocket subsidies.
Russel Vought and Vivek Ramaswamy = The wannabe ax men in the shadows. These are radical small government guys, and Vought comes across as a literal textbook psychopath (i.e., "put federal employees in trauma"). They are NOT on the same page as Trump, as Trump is about bluff and bluster and big spending. These ax men don't have many Republican votes and zero Democrat votes, so what you've seen is what you'll get.
Back to the spending status quo, and we are still on course for a corrupt decline of the US empire.
Trump can call the $10K a tip from the American people — further promoting his no taxes on tips policy!
Mostly they deserved extra for putting up with the people who were bored of being at home and wanted to just go hang out for an hour while building occupancy was being limited.

They were also working so short-staffed, some were doing the jobs of three employees. If they finally refused to work so shorthanded, that was when you saw businesses hanging handwritten notes on the door, forced to close during regular business hours. It really was not about entertaining the gadflies out to socialize. You people know who is working at the amazon factories and delivering your packages, right? Same people roofing your homes and maintaining your lawns. A lot of people just do not want to actually work-work anymore, sadly... Too wealthy and "smart" to contribute.
He'll have to get permission from all 700 district judges first.
Twelve major airports, including NYC, Chicago, LA, were banned to private aircraft due to the shutdown. Maybe Trump could hit up the private jet crowd for a few bucks to re-open the airports for them.

The EV tax credit ended 9/30/25. Not sure what space rocket subsidies there are.
Can anybody be elected who isn't a "spender and an interventionist" or doesn't become one after taking office? Congress wants the spending. Voters want big spending for the things they care about. And when presidents get their hands on the military and are confronted with the problems of the rest of the world, a "more modest foreign policy" is eventually replaced with intervention.
Movement conservatism is in disrepute because decades of talking about smaller government haven't had much effect. Libertarianism is a non-starter because everyone is a "statist" to one degree or another. If Trump is able to bring any health to the country, its economy, and its finances, I'll be grateful, but major cutbacks in government spending aren't going to happen until national bankruptcy forces them.
Admirable he’s getting lefties to focus on spending-
Derp. No its not. He is not "getting the lefties" to focus on shit because Trump IS A LEFTY dumdums. There is nothing "admirable" about what he is doing. He is drafting the blueprint for a complete Marxist takeover. Spending like Obama. Creating a brand new Marxist entitlement program (i.e., The "Trump Accounts"). Bullying private corporation into giving equity to Uncle Sam.
Sure, Daddy Warbucks go ahead give out bonuses out of MY TAXMONEY MOTHERFUCKER. That's where the "money he will find" is coming from. It's coming out of YOUR paycheck. Derp you fuckers are stupid.

100% happy I voted DJT 2024.I sat out 2016 and 2020. Have not voted D since Tsonas in 1992. Can't vote D until they make big changes, which will most likely never occur.
I believe R's are in big trouble (since DJT is not on the ballot again it might not matter for him). Many said one reason DJT won in 2024 is because people had good economic memories of his first term.If he has to say "life is not so easy, for anybody", R's are in big trouble.
I support the ideas behind Trunp Tariffs, but they do increase inflation.

One of the reasons I voted for Trump was to incentivize government employees...
to quit.
Political Junkie, I’d argue — and have before — that the BLS and other economic indicators never really showed a “great Trump 45 economy,” but rather one he inherited that was already beginning to soften before COVID flipped the entire apple cart. That may sound partisan, but I agree with your broader point about voters feeling it in their wallets. I think Trump 47 was largely driven by a longing for what people remember as the stability of the pre-COVID years.
Tariffs do appeal to a sense of fairness — bringing jobs home and holding other countries accountable makes intuitive sense — but as you noted, the inflationary impact is hard to deny and unacceptable. The GOP’s real challenge now may be finding a way to protect U.S. jobs without quietly taxing consumers through higher prices. Trump seems unwilling to budge and the GOP dare not step out of line.
The party in power always gets the credit or the blame for jobs and inflation, fair or not. In this case, though, much of what we’re seeing now stems directly from Trump-era GOP policies — the same ones economists warned could create these ripple effects down the road.
This could, and I believe will, get ugly.
Those fiscally responsible Democrats sunsetted Obamacare subsidies because if they had to use the real numbers they would never have gotten close to passing the fraudulent bill in the first place. Now that it's time to pay the piper they want another trillion (which they didn't get). Boo hoo.
That was elons promise made in madison square garden all told
Yes it was a fraud in cost and in coverage
Not off-topic off topic: GDPNow currently 4.0 percent. It’s easy to look up. Btw, that is a very. good. number. CPI for September was 0.3 in September, annual running about 3.0. Contrast with previous years of 2.9, 4.1…8.0, 4.7
Funny how that is blasted everywhere
"I don't know. I'll get it from someplace. I always get the money from someplace. Many people say that. Money, it’s like a free lunch- no one has to pay for it. And I know more about free lunches than anyone, for me. Maybe not for you but someone else will pay for your free lunches which means it’s free, right? Maybe Mexico will pay for it? Who knows? Maybe ChEYEnna will pay. But I always get free money”.
Trump is playing 4D chess again. When the Democrats shut down the gvmt again, and they will, ATC will be more than eager to keep showing up.
“ Maybe there should be more financial incentives for government employees.”
That can never be allowed in the Union Government complex. The laziest must be paid more by making them full time Union bosses who do nothing. In Union theology the hardest worker must be driven out as a bad example and can’t be paid more than the lazy. Never work on government time, never take a dump on your own time.
Can we all agree that inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon, in the sense that it is and can be produced only by a more rapid increase in the quantity of money than in the output? Can we? Tariffs increase costs, they don't produce inflation.
Two-eyed, that’s a sharp Milton Friedman-style framing but a bit too narrow for modern conditions. We’ve seen that price hikes and global supply interruptions were the main drivers of the last inflation surge — something the Biden administration took the brunt for, even though much of it was out of their control, and they ultimately brought it back down.
Now the Trump administration is lighting matches on immigration and tariffs policies that will torch the economy. Even if you want to argue it would be short term, good luck convincing people getting burned that they’ll be better off once he’s done trying to extinguish the fire.
What kind of things do you want to incentivize government employees to do?
Oh, I don't know. Maybe show up for work?
I bought a new car 2 months ago and am still waiting for AZ DMV to send me my new plates.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe show up for work?"
If they wanted to work, they'd have gotten a private sector job.
RJ Ward writes: “Now the Trump administration is lighting matches on immigration and tariffs policies that will torch the economy.”
US international competitiveness standing is eroding rapidly versus Far East economies and the US will have much more trouble making debt service payments than now thought. When the crisis comes, lack of capacity will force triage and the government will sustain the regulated banking sector and let the market sort out the shadow banking sector. Look for massive debt extinguishment in private credit and private equity selling at 20 cents on the dollar. (It was always too good to be true!)
Global industrial leadership is passing from the US to China and the wider Far East. The US asset base has to be repriced in light of a once-in-a-century paradigm shift. World standing ultimately shapes global economic valuations.
The Republicans are going into a series of big complicated 21st century global financial crises with a full toolbox of

Yes, as regulatory policies for foreign markets.
Inflation occurs when monetary instruments (e.g. currency, debt, credit) emissions exceeed economic productivity.
A great “financial incentivize” for federal employees would be eliminating 10 percent of them for “performance”. Every single one of them are paid too much.
"Every single one of them are paid too much."
As well, many (most?) are doing things the federal government is not tasked with doing. You know- that "enumerated powers" thing in the Constitution...

Trump could just get the District Judge who ordered the Executive Branch to fund SNAP, during a government shutdown bypassing the House Appropriation jurisdiction, to order Congress to fund the $10K bonuses. I'm pretty sure that's how it's laid out in the Constitution. I think it's the paragraph right before the Presidential Autopen Clause.

“2 million illegal immigrants are gone. If they were costing the country a thousand bucks per month in housing, SNAP, education, medical care or whatever other costs, that's $24 billion.”
“We are told that immigrants are a net gain to the economy, but the low hanging fruit that ICE has deported and those who chose to leave, weren't bringing anything to the party.”
Immigrants, in general, may be, or may have been, in the past, a plus to the economy. But illegals and asylum seekers are a drain on the economy. Contrast a Chinese PhD or an Indian MD to a Central American peasant, with a 3rd grade education, and Spanish being their (weak) 2nd language. The former are mostly legal immigrants, while the latter are not.
Recent graph (from ZeroHedge) shows SNAP benefits to Chinese, Indians, Whites, etc in the mid single digits, while Afghans, Iraqis, and Central Americans ran at almost half. And SNAP is only one program. There are many others, including Section 8, MedicAid, etc, plus overuse (and minimal payment for) schools, hospitals, police, etc.
Whenever you see leftists (e.g. Inga here) tell you that immigrants are a net plus to our economy, and then imply that illegal immigration is a net plus, realize that they are engaging in bait and switch. Legal immigrants do contribute to our economy. They very often have valuable skills. Illegal immigrants are a big drag on it. Many, if not most, don’t have valuable skills. We live in a highly technical society, where basic computer skills are necessary, as well as a decent proficiency in English.
Finally, this week had the Trump/Rubio State Dept emphasizing to embassies around the world must take into account, when issuing visas, that applicants must show that they are self supporting, and thus won’t be on welfare. This has long been the law, but the Biden Administration, as with much else, chose to ignore it.

Comments should go up immediately... unless you're commenting on a post older than 2 days. Then you have to wait for us to moderate you through. It's also possible to get shunted into spam by the machine. We try to keep an eye on that and release the miscaught good stuff. We do delete some comments, but not for viewpoint... for bad faith.
