Doesn't Sliwa have a duty to stay in the race, having won the nomination and used the Republican Party's resources? What would that say to those who have donated to the Party? There's a line on the ballot for the Republican — is there to be no one on it?
I don't see the basis for replacing Sliwa with no one. But Trump is one of those who are leaning on him:
In an interview on Fox News on Sunday, Mr. Trump questioned, “Is he really a Republican?” and made light of Mr. Sliwa’s commitment to animal rescue. (At one point, Mr. Sliwa lived with 16 cats in a studio apartment, and he is also running on the Protect Animals line.)
“This isn’t exactly ideal where he wants to make Gracie Mansion the home for the cats," the president said.
Politicians usually have one pet — a dog, not a cat, and certainly not multiple cats, especially not a number, like 16, that seems crazy. Trump likes pets enough to act concerned about the possibility that they are getting eaten by immigrants.
But he scorns politicians who take on dogs: "I wouldn't mind having one, honestly, but I don't have any time. How would I look walking a dog on the White House lawn? Would that be right? I don't know. Feels a little phony, phony to me. A lot of people say, ‘Oh, you should get a dog,’ ‘Why?’ ‘It’s good politically.’ I said, ‘Look, that’s not the relationship I have with my people.'"

[shrug] One thing that's always been obvious about Trump: he ❤️NY. Another thing: he's a(n optimistic) realist. He knows Sliwa won't win in NYC and he knows his presence on the ballot means Cuomo won't either, and he knows Mamdani's policy prescriptions, if he can get them into play, will be districts for the city he loves. So I'm not surprised he would not support Sliwa.
Whether Sliwa is duty-bound to stay in the race - that's an excellent question that I hadn't considered, even though I'm (sort of) from California where this question ought be top of mind for me.
‘Look, that’s not the relationship I have with my people.'
Every time someone says they just wish Trump would be a little nicer, a little less antagonistic, that he'd make things a bit more palatable if he was just a little bit less abrasive, point them to this line.
16 cats in a studio is mental illness. That stinks.
And, this race is like Clinton vs Trump. Not necessarily voting for the one you like, as voting against the one you dislike.
If you don't want to clean up the Dems' mess, don't run for office!
Also, NYC Republicans are a different animal (no pun intended). Giuliani is rightly celebrated, but he basically enacted the Democrat platform: ruthlessly enforce the drug, gun, and nanny-state laws. The laws the Dems push for, but are afraid to use unless you're a white male, a self-defender, or a political enemy. As Andrew Schultz said on Joe Rogan the other day, NYCers are piled on top of each other and so need a few more laws than people in, say, Texas.
And even the D's are realizing that they have to get serious about delivering services, including policing, again. Look at Mayor Adams. The alternative is a Trump National Guard invasion. So it's possible Cuomo might not be much different from an NYC Republican. OTOH, Mamdani is still a true believer. CC, JSM
If the Republicans can be called upon to remove Sliwa from the ballot, why shouldn't Democrats take it upon themselves to remove Mamdani?
Aside from the internal outcry, the Democrats won't because they believe, perhaps rightly, that they can mold and compromise Mamdani with status and privilege and advisors into, at worst, another DiBlasio.
"Politicians usually have one pet — a dog," Obama never had a pet in his life until Ted Kennedy foisted a surprise Prtugese Water Dog on him.
What chutzpa for Kennedy to give a "water dog". Maybe a message to O that as a powerful democrat you can get away with murder.
that he'd make things a bit more palatable if he was just a little bit less abrasive, point them to this line
...that advice always comes from people who will never support him. They ask like if he changes in the way they suggest it will win them over. It won't...
I for one am willing to sacrifice NYC to protect the nation from the scourge of socialism.
Bring it on, bring it hard.
Cuomo created the toxic stew that mamdani will worsen
Cuomo killed 30,000 people that might have been his winning margin
Mamdanis victory will emcourage others
ObamaCare is a complete tax payer waste of money. It must go.
During COVID - the Democratics dream chi come aided lab rat scheme - the dems under crook Joe - opened up Obamacare for affluent people with tax credits. They expire soon. the dems want to make them permanent - and they should not be.
I'm tired of NYC politics. They chose their destructor. Let's check in when Snake Plissken says it's safe to...
Usually a man who has 16 cats is Gay. But Curtis has been married 3 times and has 3 kids. He only living with one Katz right now. If Wikipedia is to be believed.
Four people entered the fray. Not a single worthy candidate will emerge victorious. But the way to bet is the Socialist will be the last man standing.
There are some questions of how much poison Mamdani can pour down the throats of New Yawkers. No matter the amount it will be harmful at best.
So long as I'm not asked to clean up the Mamdani mess let that city rot.
Trump is more interested in women than dogs. He's also a NYC guy and not into huntin' fishin' or campin'. He plays golf.
Bush was a drunkard and then turned into an exercise fantatic. Obama used to smoke, play basketball, and then got into Golf. I think fat-boy Billie bob still plays golf. Before that, he just played the tuba.
I'll take a dog-hater like trump, over biden who loved having dogs that bit the help.
Curtis is certainly worthy perhaps the only one
Heard a typical NPR interview today of the House minority leader. Lead NPR softball question "Can you reiterate your previous response as to why the Republicans are wrong on health care?".
For some reason the MSM has decided to hide the fact that
schumer is behind the shutdown. And for some reason they;re always vague about who is putting pressure on Silwa. What big donors are doing that? Name them.

The democrats don’t really have any options.
They are a party whose job is to serve the desires of globalist oligarchs. That means tricking enough idiots to buy into socialism.
The democrat party didn’t import enough new illegal immigrant voters to add to the 30% or something f the population who is stupid enough to go to a No Kings rally.
"RCOCEAN II said...

Sax.
Because they ignore the former and make up the latter
John catsamandis could have run but he didnt
Sliwa is all in with - illegals do the jobs that Americans won't, we shouldn't criticize Islam, climate change is real...

Cuomo is a mass murderer and belongs in jail.
NYC deserves Mamdani. Flatworms respond to external stimulus.
It has to be strong stimulus to teach the appropriate lessons because democrat voters are really stupid and only Mamdani is up for that.
Bill ackman could have run or backed a candidate strongly
No GOP candidate means it's 100% a Democrat problem, come what may and it kinda looks like an Unbreakable-level train crash.
When I saw "Republicans should not have to clean up the mess the Democrats created," I just assumed it was referring to the governmental shut-down being held up over the expiration of an Obamacare provision that the Dems explicitly wrote into the Obamacare statute (and that Dems had the opportunity to revise when they controlled the House, the Senate and the Presidency in 2021).
Lets not go into Clinton's sax life.
People ought to be pressuring Cuomo to drop out and endorse Sliwa. No one nominated him.
If Sliwa withdraws, why would any of his supporters vote for Cuomo? Mamdani will win, regardless.
Sliwa should stay in the race- his withdrawal wouldn't change the outcome anyway. Mamdani is a shoo-in.
Cuomo has known for months that he needed Republican votes to win the race. What has he done to get them? Anything?
I don't see Silwa voters voting for Cuomo regardless of what Silwa does. They know he's going to lose, and they're voting for him anyway. Him "dropping out" won't change that
Meh. It's New York. They had a good ride.
The sense of entitlement is very strong with Papa's not quite Fredo figlio.
1.If Sliwa exits the race, Mamdani will win.
If Cuomo exits the race, Sliwa’s chances improve.
If all 3 stay in the race, Sliwa still has a chance.
2. If Mamdani wins, he will be a good mayor. Looks like he’s already striking deals as NYC real estate prices are going up.
More importantly the socialists/Islamists have an enormous stake in Mamdani succeeding in NYC. Next stop the White House. (AOC, you never had a chance.)
3. Mamdami’s win will solidify the takeover of the Democrat Party by the socialist/Islamists. AntiFa wins. Antiqua loses. (Thank you Megan Kelly for that.)
Fair warning NYC: the dildo of consequences rarely arrives lubed.
What’s it worth to Cuomo for Sliwa to drop out? If Cuomo wants Sliwa out of the race he needs to cut a deal.
NYC race for mayor, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."
Get the Muzzie commie in there. Lets showcase lefty-ism. Give the people what they want. Like oatmeal, it'll be good for them.
Mamdani will win, declare war on Trump, and, as conditions in the city worsen, will say that it's all the fault of how Trump is treating the city unfairly. See the example of Cuba. Every years as things got worse, Castro pointed out how it was all the fault of the US trade embargo or whatever......Cuomo doesn't have such a great track record, but, by and large, he has been against Communism and Sharia Law. He might not do everything right, but he won't be a catastrophe. If Sliwa wants what's best for NYC, he should get out.
I, for one, think the commie bastard candidate might be a tad less deadly to the citizens of New York City than the elderly-killing bastard candidate, bu tboth will kill more New Yorkers than Sliwa ever could or would. Unless there is another opportunity to abjure aid from Trump and send sick people back into eldercare facilities again, Cuomo will maintain his murderous lead over the others. Man, that Cuomo really showed Trump up, not using the military hospital ship or the Javits Center for Covid patients! Mandami wil have to just shoot people in the street to catch up to Cuomo's death toll. And having said that, why is Cuomo even in this race, having killed over 10k New York elderly with his Covid mandates of sending sick people back into eldercare facilities? To hell with Cuomo! He and Mandami both deserve to be run out of town on a rail, covered in molasses & chicken feathers (tar is just too violent for these craven days, and the visual is what I'm after).
We know what a hellhole london has become under a more accomplished atty like khan
This seems like a good time to quietly withdraw my prediction the NY Mayoral race.
Mandami could fold the city into an insurance job very (too) easily.
A good hit could do it. Don't let him do it NYC!
Sliwa didn't "win" the nomination, he convinced any other persons interested in that Quixotic quest to not enter. There was no primary, he was installed. In my NYC congressional district, there have been several elections with no Republican on the ballot at all, since there is no chance in hell of one being elected. Sometimes the most important voting you do is with your feet, and I'm planning to do just that.
Cuomo already told us Conservatives don't belong in NY, so let Mamdani win, if people are dumb enough to elect a Communist because Cuomo isn't any better. He killed people.
Sliwa voters dislike Cuomo. Taking Sliwa off the ballot will not elect Cuomo.
Paradoxically, the Manhattan office market is booming. And Jamie Dimon has committed to build a $3 Billion office tower..
Finally someone is going to try True Socialism. New Yorkers will get exactly the paradise that they deserve.
So the Democrats are trying to take out Mandami the way the GOP establish tried to take out Trump and Trump wants to help them? Why does Trump want to help the uniparty?
When the Cheney's are campaigning for Kamala and when Trump is carrying water for Cuomo (have we forgotten COVID?!), you have to wonder if everything is fake. (Like professional wrestling and the NBA).
When the stakes are high enough (like with Epstein), Trump always walks the uniparty line.
Trump wants Mamdani’s social experiments to kick around.
If NYC can survive DeBlasio, it will survive Mamdani.
Hitler had a dog.
The stuttering clusterphuck ate them. And bragged about it.
I thought NYC had ranked choice voting. They do at least for some elections. What's up with that? I would think nearly all Sliwa voters would have the granny killer as their second choice.
ummm. shouldn't COMO be the one to step aside?
he LOST his primary.. he lost his office.. he lost his people..
since HE is a loser, shouldn't HE be the one to get lost?
just kidding; Democrats now, Democrats always, Democrats Forever!

.... Next stop the White House >> Mamdani not eligible unless amended Constitution
Someone should start a write-in campaign for the woman who is NYC police commissioner - Jessica Tisch. She's a wealthy woman in her own right, well-educated and well-spoken, has some real organizational management experience. She previously served as Adams' Sanitation Commissioner, and as IT Commissioner. Versatile accomplished bureaucrat, far more qualified than any of the three guys actually running for mayoral office.
Many NYC residents can't compel themselves to vote for Cuomo ever again, no matter how awful the other candidate.
@ hanuman_prodigious_leaper: you have no idea how much you’ve brightened my day. Thank you.
What makes any of you think New Yorkers are opposed to the things Mamdani will do to the city? Evidence is pretty good that a majority is on board. You may not think those are good things, but you aren't voting in New York...
"You may not think those are good things, but you aren't voting in New York..."
but it's a safe bet that when things crash and burn, the people who do vote there will want you to help pick up the pieces.
In New York whether a party retains its spot on the ballot depends on the presdential and gubernatorial races, not the local elections (as far as I've been able to find out). The Greens and Libertarians lost their place last time.
In theory, it shouldn't have been so hard for the Republicans or the Democrats to come up with a decent candidate. This election reminds me of the Democrats' messes in the last two presidential elections.
If Mamdani wins and makes a mess of things. That could help Schumer against AOC and encourage the party to pick a "moderate" for president. At the very least, Mamdani isn't eligible to become president (though the Democrats may have someone working on that already).
Mamdani will do what the Dems always do in power. They will threaten the rich with new regulations and theft, and then extort them for exemptions to those rules that only the less powerful will be saddled with.
Yea, if anybody should drop out, it's Cuomo. He lost the primary. That means your party did not pick you to run, so listen to YOUR people.
So all NY Democrats have to do to win is nominate the worst possible candidate for the city, and force Republicans to drop out to save them? That's ridiculous. It's not an election unless the people have a real choice. They have that with the Dem. and Repub. nominees. Pick a future and then live in it.
“I don't see Silwa [sic] voters voting for Cuomo regardless of what Silwa does. They know he's going to lose, and they're voting for him anyway. Him "dropping out" won't change that.”
Not true. I’m a New Yorker. I hate Cuomo. I’m voting for him. Same for my husband. We prefer Sliwa, but we’re not suicidal about it.

So you're not Sliwa voters, you're Cuomo voters this time, proving my point
