We had 'blue laws' in this country for most of its history. Hardly the same thing as being told what to wear (and with severe punishments for violations).

I once watched this play out one Sunday around 10am in our local College Station Albertsons Grocery checkout line. See, the difference in the USA and Iran shown via the above example is that in the USA the clerk used common sense and human decency, whereas in Iran the woman would have been publicly beaten by the males in the store, and then privately beaten more by morality police, and then beaten more by her husband or brothers or father. See the difference?
