Great photos! Just watched "The Pawnbroker" 1965 with Rod Steiger. Nominated for AA - but frankly that doesn't mean much. Anyway, its a verbose, more or less well acted SERIOUS drama about a Jewish Pawnbroker in NYC. Its Rod Steiger, OK? So, there's a lot of DRAMA.
I got through it. Barely. Like many movies from the 60s, you watch it, and go "Well that was OK, but "Best Picture" really?"
Its also racist. Which I normally dont care about, but the producers obviously went out of their way to make a "hip" "race conscious" movie. Rod's a holocaust survivor with a PR assistant and a black prostitute shows her tits trying to seduce him. IOW, Steiger can treat the "colored people" Like trash and its OK.
Bottom line: A long two hours.
