Californians will be voting in November whether or not to accept the gerrymandered Congressional map. A Yes vote is a vote to end the independent redistricting commission.
Right now CA is 43D-9R. (D+34)
The proposed map makes it 48D-4R (D+44)
CA is expected to lose four seats after the 2030 census.
To maintain D+44 the map has to be 46D-2R. No independent commission will approve that. The precedent to sidestep the commission has been set. CA's Senate & Assembly will again put forward maps to be voted on in 2031 for the 2032 election.

I watch a lot of geopolitical analysis, and I think that most of them use the old weatherman's rule to be right more often than not without having to think. "Today's weather is going to be just like yesterday's weather." Of course it misses trends like the seasons, or significant events that signal real change, but it is comforting for people to always believe that they are right, and no matter what happens, it can be made to fit into their worldview, into which they are heavily invested, until one day it no longer does.
I have no idea what Trump is doing in Ukraine, for example. One thing that worries me is his talk of "security guarantees" to Ukraine. How did the UK drag its population into WWI with Germany, which the elites wanted? By providing innocent sounding security guarantees to poor little Belgium, while telling its people that it would not agree to defend France in the war everybody could see coming, and when Germany attacked France through Belgium, the UK got the war with Germany, on France's side.
But I am sure that the British newspapers were full of reporting claiming that Britain had been innocently dragged into the war.
Decided to rewatch "marathon Man" starring Dustin Hoffman. One of my Teenage favorites. Cant remember if I saw it on TV or on VHS in the early 80s. But I was blown away. The evil Nazi. Hangdog Hoffman who a teenage boy could relate to. Woo, so dark and gritty. And that dentist drill!
And on re-watch. What a ridiculous mess. Plot holes you could march a regiment of SS camp guards through.
Somehow a JFK-look alike CIA agent is in league with some Nazi who lives in South America. Both want to get a suitcase full of diamonds. And somehow "Babe" aka Dustin Hoffman is the only one who can stop them. He has a brother who's also in CIA, and a father who died because Joe McCarthy was mean to him, and there's a beautiful Euro babe whos with the Nazis but then Hoffman goes to bed with her, and ala James Bond she changes side.
Hey, if it works for sean Connery it can work for Dustin.
There's lot of running and double crossing and finally "Babe" shoots the nazis and leaves those "Dirty Diamonds" in the water. Guess the sewage plant had a slew of retirement the next day.
Good acting. Some nice action scenes. Love the 70s vibe. But the whole story makes zero sense.
We will always remember, "no one knows what Mueller knows." These words will live forever.

Believe it or not, I still haven't seen the movie. At this point, I think it would need to come up on one of the services I subscribe to. That's what I'd waited for and now I've had to wait so long, it doesn't have that current-movie feel to it that makes me feel I need to see it soon. It can be in there with "Apocalypse, Now" — I mean to get to it but possibly never will. My very strong interest in Bob Dylan doesn't make me want to see the movie. It's given me a bit of an aversion. But I was interested enough in the movie before it came out to read the book it was based on. At this point, I'm put off by the idea of watching the actor pretend to be Bob Dylan and by the prospect of many scenes in which what's important seems to be his interaction with women.

I just had a long discussion with AI over Apocalypse Now, and before you laugh, what you are really doing when you do this is running your ideas against what other people, mainly movie critics, but also people writing about Hollywood in general, think about the movie, and it was quite enlightening. I remember seeing it in a movie theater on its first run, and have watched it several times since, and it is an interesting movie, but I learned from AI why the ending sucked and seemed like a break from the rest of the movie. AI knows a lot about the making of the movie, for example.
The other behavior it has adopted is to ask you questions at the end of its answers to draw you further into the discussion in different directions.

That's true to a point, but the abuse of power, especially regarding a paperwork issue - not even an error on the part of the farm owners, according to the article - is astounding. Unelected bureaucrats transgressed the boundaries of decency, and their legitimate authority, to punish the farm owners for no good reason.

I don't think it's frivilous to highlight the importance of interactions Dylan had with women. To ignore the relationship he had with Baez would be to ignore the essence of Dylan.
He was fundamentally true to himself and not afraid of growth and change. You might as well have highlighted his relationships with Pete Seeger, fan bases, and various causes and movements that demanded him to be one of heir own.

I don’t want to watch it, I am afraid I would be triggered by Dylan’s Donovan abuse.
I'm a long-time Dylan admirer and believe he's often misunderstood - by fans and critics alike. I didn't have high hopes for the movie but "had to" see it. As Pvt. Pyle would say, "Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!". It was a lot like the real Bob Dylan. My version, anyway.

Haven't seen the movie yet. Just bought the DVD. Another fantasic Dylan movie, if you haven't seen it, is Scorsese's doc, No Direction Home.
