"I’m sure this has absolutely nothing to do with the recent deal between CBS and Trump that gave him $16 million for nothing."
"Stephen Colbert has been on point and humorous in his criticism of Trump. I hope he finds a home on another network or platform."
That's a comment on the NYT article "CBS Canceling ‘Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ After Next Season/The show will end in May, the network said, calling it 'a purely financial decision.'"
From the article: “'It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,' said the executives, who included George Cheeks, the president of CBS and a co-chief executive of Paramount, CBS’s parent. 'Our admiration, affection and respect for the talents of Stephen Colbert and his incredible team made this agonizing decision even more difficult.'"

The late night shows have been dying a slow death for at least a decade. They have already driven away half of their potential audience with their political ranting, and the other half has better options thanks to streaming.
Plenty of stale Anti-Trump humor elsewhere
Variety acknowledges the decline of late night programming but instead of shifting political winds amongst youngsters they blame streaming. Pay no attention to the fact most of the shows post their content quickly after it airs. Adam Schiff mad another leftie propaganda outfit closing up shop.
…between PBS and CBS a good day overall…
CBS News has switched to cover Trump favorably and more often as well - all day long.
It wasn't for "nothing." Trump will now approve Shari Redstone's merger.
How ya'll like hardball?
Also, it wasn't $16 million.
It was $35 million.
That's on top of George Stephanopolis and ABC paying Trump $16 million.
But does not include the $16 million that AOC is going to owe Trump for calling him a "rapist."
Trump has never been convicted of rape. Because he now controls the Epstein tapes.
Normally no ill will towards a closing bit these propaganda shows masquerading as mainstream content all need to go. Nothing beautiful will ever grow there…
Colbert was an old white man with old white man audience. Literally, 80 percent of his demographic is over 60. He'll be replaced by someone younger and browner.
CBS network execs loved Colbert's leftwing politics and snarky vulgar attacks on Republicans. The problem was no one under 60 cared.
I remember how Letterman started out as a funny anti-establishment zany comedian and ended as a nasty, leftwing, establishment shill. Colbert was a nasty leftwing shill from Day 1. I'm suprised he lasted this long, but you can go far when Network Execs like you, and you only need 2 percent of the country.
Killed by the Vax-Scene...many such cases!
We've gone from fair-minded liberalCarson, who was smart and funny to Colbert who's neither. You'd think Colbert was the bottom of the barrel, but I fear we'll be devolving even further.
Who did he replace, Letterman? I never thought his arch, snarky approach very funny or original, or even witty. I don't find Gutfeld funny or witty either, and when my wife watches him, I have found that his guest panel has become more obnoxious over time, with an exception or two. Honestly, why do people watch these shows? They're neither news, nor entertainment as far as I can tell. Just a bunch of smart *sses trying to outdo each other.
Damage control. Colbert is on the list.
"CBS News has switched to cover Trump favorably and more often as well - all day long."
Honesty is the best policy.
Colbert will be not much younger than Carson, Letterman or Lebo (Second time).
Carson was the last great late night host. And he went light on politics, and heavy on entertainment , stand up, and fun.
Colbert was a cheap shill, like his clone Stewart . Nothing funny, and he thought nothing of crapping on half the country to feed his leftist fantasies.
Letterman had a few years, but then decided he was so wise and important that anyone actually gave a damn what he said about his leftist views.
Good riddance to bad garbage
Does anyone actually watch any of those late night “comedy” shows? If so, why?

That might have been true once, but with the rise of online personalities the television syndicates have lost enormous amounts of cultural control. I'm sure they'll go back to their old ways the minute President Trump leaves office, but the genie is out of the bottle.
I'll never respect Colbert after the "vaccine dancers" bit. Carson would have punched someone before tolerating that.
Adam Schitt is his last guest? or latest guest?
Gee - we all wonder why?
Carson had a couple of advantages. People tuned in to see the guests: movie stars, TV stars, comedians, etc. Who cares about these people today? So and so is plugging a movie or a TV show that 90 percent of the USA wont watch. zzzz.
You had a more uniform culture. There is no culture today. If so and so is on the "Best seller List" he's some leftist 1/2 of the USA hates or he's a fiction writer, 95 percent of the USA doesn't read.
Singers? market is completely fragmented.
Stephen Colbert and the left - in a nutshell
Some say CNN is going to pick him up to rival Gutfeld.
LOL - good luck, pro jabs freaks.
i actually liked Colbert's satire of Bill O'Reilly on the Colbert report. And I was suprised (politics aside) how unfunny he is as straight comedian. Even more than Jon Stewart, he needs good writers.
Actually, I'll go even further and say Colbert is a comic actor, not a comedian. He can't ad-lib. He cant interview. He cant really tell a joke. He needs to play a character. And not Leftwing asshole guy.
Its amazing to see some old Carson clips, and see how good he was at interviewing people. Especially other comedians. He knew when throw out a straightline and help the other guy get laughs, and when to counterpunch and get his own joke in.
When things became more serious, he could ask intelligent questions, and get the guest to say something interesting. Lettermann and Colbert sucked at interviews.
Colbert is only good at play-acting caricatures of what he thinks republicans/conservatives are like.
He is stale.
Letterman was only good at interviews when he was goofing on someone or being hostile (cf: Cher). The hilarious thing is Letterman thought he was great at interviews. Just like he thought he was smarter than everyone and was a deep political thinker (LOL).
Leno was a good guy who kept the conversation going. More people liked his easy-going (some say dumb) style. He was liberal/left but he was fair and didn't seem that political. WIth Letterman the good humored snark turned to acid. The mask came off.
4 years of SNL - and they barely touched Joe biden.
Imagine being a billionaire and seeing that kind of money as just another peanut in the bowl. Trump just wants to win. He didn't care how much he got.
"Letterman was only good at interviews ..."
How quickly they forget. Letterman was also sexually harassing his unpaid interns and got caught when one of his producers threatened to go public (he of course, was jailed, while Letterman was left free to harass other innocent women.)
How quickly they forget.
Why are you quoting me? I didnt say Letterman was good at interviews - I said the exact opposite. And who said Letterman was a good person. Fucking Judas Priest.
You assholes aren't raining on my parade. I'm happy Colbert is gone. Top of the world!
"'It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,"
So I guess some executive got the news in a fortune cookie, and that was that. Apparently even happenstance is still winning. Cool.
I loved The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson- I started watching on Friday nights and all nights when I didn't school the next day when I was 11 years old and at about age 14 I watched pretty much every night regardless of school until I started college at which point I only watched occasionally until he retired. I liked Leno but was a very infrequent viewer and had abandoned late night programming by the time of his first retirement. People like Colbert weren't fit to be mentioned in the same sentence with Carson or Leno.

Real reporting
I used to watch Carson and Letterman nightly back in the '80s. In fact, I still have Letterman's 3rd Anniversary on VHS.
But he (Letterman) really changed when he got snubbed by NBC when it was time to replace Carson. I found myself watching him less and less. Then he changed for the worse after 9/11 and it just wasn't worth the time.
Colbert? Never watched a single second. Not even a clip.
He simply doesn't exist.
Look at that MAGA, she spoutin’ truth in the camera
Man, nice to see a normal some one.
And he's up there, what's that? Hawaiian judging’
He's bangin' on the gavel like a chimpanzee.

What will they replace it with? Reruns of primetime shows?
I'm not watching TV at that time of night any longer. The clips I've seen on YouTube occasionally are not inspiring. OTOH, Graham Norton has a great interview show in Britain, not sure if it's late night there or not.
For nearly every show on TV, the day comes when the network cancels it. The star always complains hat the network didn’t market the show had enough or the lead-in was too weak or something. It’s never that the audience got tired of the show and its star and took their eyes somewhere else
Play stupid games, bite the hand that signs the paycheck, and you just might get fired. Colbert was very much an acquired taste--sort of male Rachel Maddow. I never acquired the taste and won't miss the smirky snark.
This frees Colbert up to be the liberal Joe Rogan.
Col-bear, the fake french-fried name adopted by the greasiest, deep-fried Charlestonian charlatan on since Rhett Butler.
"Some say CNN is going to pick him up to rival Gutfeld.

Gutfeld! is so ugly. I would agree that he is as funny as the average lib comedy person that is on TV. But he's a hideous man. It's disgusting to look at him. I can't do it. I wouldn't hire someone as ugly as him to clean any of my houses, if I had to see them.
I feel sorry for any woman that is so desperate that they'd F him. You'd think a totally gross pig could do better. OTOH, I guess he has money. So some gals would do him as a job that pays good dough.
He’ll always have his shimmy dance for COVID to reminisce about.
Pepe le DouDou sucks skunk penis.
“I wouldn't hire someone as ugly as him to clean any of my houses, if I had them.”
FIFY, le DouDou.
Colbert would be a perfect fit for The View.
FLC - I know that you know that Jeanie Carroll cooked his ass to the tune of $ 100 million. Federal Judge Lewis Kaplan ruled that the jury verdict showed Carroll's rape allegation was "substantially true" and dismissed Trump's counterclaim.
Cheap sheep clapter
Colbert would be a perfect fit for The View.
Only if he went full drag queen.
And the funny thing is, if he went full drag queen, and said, "I'm a woman," they'd have to accept it.
'It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,' said the executives, who included George Cheeks, the president of CBS and a co-chief executive of Paramount, CBS’s parent.
It would be funny if there was a "leak" to ABC or NBC news about how Trump required the removal of Colbert from the airwaves, and CBS did his bidding.
Colbertgate.
Of course the problem with journalists chasing the Colbertgate story is that they are just as likely to blow up CBS as the Trump administration.
"All I said was he was a horrible comedian and not funny and they should get rid of him. I didn't know CBS listened to me. The impression I always got from CBS is they didn't like me at all."
The left's late night comedy is a drag. The only people who find them funny, are lefties who hate the right and enjoy idiots dancing in needle outfits to force people to take the Government jab

The funny thing is that Gutfeld runs his show as a panel of five, almost always two hot women, two guys, often one of his writers and Cyrus, the former wrestler, and the host/moderator, usually himself. Of the panelists, typically the smartest are the women, while funniest are the guys. Recently, he was out on paternity leave, with his sidekicks Cyrus and Kat filling in, then Kat going out on maternity leave. Both their first kid. Cyrus, of course, being rich, successful, and (partially) Black has enough kids for everyone. And lets everyone know it. He is, most often, the funniest one on the show.
The show was intentionally designed as late night political comedy. Every show includes comedians. They typically are a majority, esp with Cyrus and Kat as his sidekicks, both with their own successful standup tours. She’s the neurotic libertarian, who couldn’t make relationships with men work, until she did. And Cyrus, telling truth, as only a Black man can. She and Greg are tiny, while Cyrus is really massive. They have their running gags, including Greg’s vanity (despite his size), the excess weight of the current Gov of IL, former Gov of NJ, and, of course, Joy Bahar from the View, the View itself, and pictorial punch lines of male FNC personages, the Clintons, Bidens, etc. But to bring levity to the show, there is always a serious panel member, with other FNC hosts used as filler. Politicians are often endearing as they try hard to be funny, in the presence of so many comedians.
The show dominates late night TV because FNC went out and carefully designed the show to dominate. Instead of basing their offering around a personality like Colbert, Letterman, etc, they took a collaborative approach,
This frees Colbert up to be the liberal Joe Rogan.
There used to be a "liberal Joe Rogan". His name was (checks notes) JOE ROGAN...!
I never watched one episode. I may have caught a skit, and I know about the ISS treadmill being named after him like Boaty McBoatface. But I never watched the Late Show, at least after Letterman left (who I also didn't watch often).
One problem for Colbert, Fallon and Kimmel is their predecessors still are widely available on YouTube and other streaming services. You can watch Johnny Carson monologues and bits with Craig Ferguson flirting with starlets at will, and all of it is way more entertaining than the overweening Two Minutes Hate that they proffer.
"The hilarious thing is Letterman thought he was great at interviews. Just like he thought he was smarter than everyone and was a deep political thinker (LOL)."
I will note that Norm MacDonald thought Letterman was very intelligent.
Wait, shouldn't the money flow in the other direction? Trump pays CBS to bounce Colbert? They can't even do bribery right.
"FormerLawClerk said... Trump has never been convicted of rape. Because he now controls the Epstein tapes."
Really? You think the Democrats and the Justice Department that hated him just let it go for years? They came at him from all directions but not that one. Sure. Whatever you say.
Former law clerk's appellation aside, he doesn't seem to understand much about how the legal system works within politicized systems in the real world. But that's what happens to them.
According to Nielson, Colbert was pulling decent numbers. If the decision was purely financial, then the show didn't bring in enough advertising revenue to justify the cost.
Pharma puts $5 billion into TV advertising. That can't go on for much longer. If that goes away, broadcast TV will be even harder to justify.
I wonder if we will go back to the National Anthem at midnight, followed by a test pattern all night.
"on point and humorous" is hilarious.
