lol reverend meade! it's even funnier when you do it than ann!!
So, he seems to have had some vertebral problems requiring surgery at some point this past year and people had been worried about his health from recent public appearances.
I thought his eyes looked bad when I saw his appearance at the convention. Glad he dealt a smackdown to Gawker, glad he got to see Trump elected, he was part of the transformation of professional wrestling, making it more mainstream (Not that I'm any fan of it). And although he had some drama in his life, he wasn't trailer trash, just a guy Livin' the Dream. Good for him and R.I.P.
@Althouse: "Look at those arms! And he only had a year left to live."
At 71 years old, I'm wondering if he was on testosterone or had synthol injections. Body builders routinely sacrifice their real heath for the appearance of strength and health.
Hulk Hogan last appeared in a wrestling match in England at age 58, fourteen years ago. The match against Sting was programmed to be won by Sting in order that the old Hulkster could stay in the ring.
After that, Terry Gene Bollea got some portion of a $31 million settlement that bankrupted Gawker after the website broadcasted a small piece of a Hulkster sex tape.
Hulk Hogan then went to work for the McMahons as an on-air commentator. He also picked up some change by endorsing Trump.
I met him once in The departure lounge at laguardia
I stand 6'2" weigh @250. He made me feel like a midget. He was sitting in a corner reading a book. We were probably a big pain in the ass but he stood and shook Hans with son and me. Very nice fellow based on my 30 second meeting.
"He also picked up some change by endorsing Trump."
Via perplexity...
There is no credible evidence that Hulk Hogan was paid to endorse Donald Trump. The available sources detail Hogan's high-profile and theatrical endorsement of Trump at the 2024 Republican National Convention, including dramatic gestures such as ripping off his shirt to reveal Trump campaign symbols. However, none of the reputable news outlets report that his endorsement involved payment or compensation.
Hogan's support for Trump is consistently described as motivated by their long-standing personal relationship and his own political beliefs rather than any disclosed financial arrangement.
Does Trump pay anyone money in exchange for endorsements? I've not heard of it. I'd expect it to have been reported in his FEC filings, and the subject of massive and venomously contemptuous media coverage, if so.
I do recall reading of some prima donna female musician, whose name I did not know beforehand and have since forgotten, who demanded to be paid multiple millions of dollars to endorse Kamala Harris and do a concert for her towards the end of last year's campaign.
I never encountered the real Hulk Hogan. Imus had a Hulk Hogan character that I heard all the time so I know only a stereotype. Maybe as a result of having tossed out the TV in 1970, even before Archie Bunker, who I've also not encountered.

Almost certainly exogenous testosterone.
Not synthol. At his age synthol would end badly very fast. Synthol was pretty rare because it always ends badly.
@Achilles: "At his age synthol would end badly very fast."
Synthol starts and ends badly with younger people. I once worked with a guy who'd injected himself with synthol or silicone or something like it. He was very bulky but looked 'off," and ended up with a jumbo carrot or parsnip body. He explained how it worked, and was quite pleased with the results. He had body image issues for sure...but not transgender level...
I don't live in Minnesota, but a year ago, wrestling legend Hulk Hogan gave a rousing speech in support of Donald Trump on the final night of the Republican National Convention.
"At the end of the day, with our leader up there, my hero, that gladiator, we're going to bring America back together one real American at a time, brother," Hogan said as Trump watched on from his seat in the audience.
So this is who we have as our president. A man endorsed by a fake wrestler, who made a fortune by engaging in fake wrestling matches, endorsing a fake president, and who is now eulogized as a fake wise man for endorsing a fake president. We are living in a Franz Kafka novel.
Next up, lone justice will tell us water is wet, cartoons aren't real and actors aren't really the characters they portray.
Thanks for clearing that up about wrestling not being areally being a competition.
For the folks in Portland, professional wrestling started about 200 years ago. It was staged enterinment then as now. Then as now, everyone knew it was staged, very athletic, entertainment. And a hell of a popular entertainment
Lj probably found out later in life an was traumatized.
In recent years, Hogan was a down-sized version of Hulk in his prime. During an extended gig in Japan (early 80s) he was the most massive human I’ve ever seen.
I was shocked to watch him speak at the convention.
Can’t say I “knew” him but I sat next to him dozens of times at a private club that catered to visiting entertainers/celebrities, young models from Europe and the States and foreign businessmen and diplomats. He interacted with no one. No one approached him.
He was more pleasant than friendly. We never had an actual conversation, more like, “Hey Michael, how you doing?” followed by, “Take it easy. See you around.” In between, he quietly drank a few beers and, if with another wrestler, didn’t say much to him either.

We’re gonna miss him, brother!
Long-term steroid use was also my guess. I keep expecting The Terminator to drop dead any moment.

Remember he took down Gawker with his invasion of privacy lawsuit. It wasn't even defamation. Funded by Peter Thiel.
Ozzie and the Hulkster. Who is #3?
⬆️ Ozzie was just a bloke, the Hulk was just a guy. Couple of working class heroes gone.
May he rest in peace. I guess this wasn't in the script...
Oh, please let it be Colbert who is #3.

Mr Hogan was a great public servant to destroy that leftwing smear and blackmail merchant. Denton belongs in prison.
Oh, mann…
"Say your prayers and eat your vitamins!"
The Hulkster! RIP
So, he seems to have had some vertebral problems requiring surgery at some point this past year and people had been worried about his health from recent public appearances.
I saw him in Publix, Fayetteville Ga about 15 odd years ago.
There were people all over him, he was awesome to everybody.

Bridgett Phetasy suggests it was Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
Sad about Malcolm Jamal-Warner. But he wasn't in the same universe as those guys.
Chuck Mangione, also. He was 84.

I remember when he spoke at the RNC and remembering when he was governor of Minnesota. But that wasn't him.
I forget ... how much did the Kamala campaign pay celebrities to say nice things about her?
He also picked up some change by endorsing Trump.
Putin said it was the best money he ever spent, right Dung Beetle?
71 is pretty young these days. Like someone else, I assume the steroids had something to do with it.

Just after writing and thinking about the Hulkster Joan Baez singing Dylan's Forever Young comes up.
Perhaps my very favorite Baez/Dylan cover.

Size. Big people tend to die younger.
At high doses test probably burns the candle hotter but
I believe it is the size that really shortens the curve.

A showman out of the Barnum and Bailey tradition who worked hard the at imitation of Wrestling . Rest in peace Hulk.
Saw the Hulkster back in the mid-80s at the Tacoma Dome. Place was sold out on a Saturday afternoon in the middle of summer.
When he came out, the roof came off the place. Everybody on their feet, crowd going nuts.
So there's this old lady - maybe late-70s/early-80s - yelling at me to "Sit the fuck down! Sit the fuck down!" over and over. Obnoxiously drunk.
I turn around and say, "Why don't you stand the fuck up?!"
She then threw her beer on me. Good times.
RIP, Hulkster. One of a kind, for sure.

Spare us the fake tears, dude.
Died of a "medical emergency", possibly cardiac arrest, "unexpectedly". Believed to be in excellent condition for a 70+ year old.
Maybe in fact it was the injections, just not the ones being discussed above. Does anyone know if he succumbed to the safe and effective jabs?
Farewell Hulkster. When Nature Boy finally kicks the bucket I'm going to sob like a little girl.

Big people die young? Tell that to Bill Russell. George Mikan. Or Rick Barry.
Lonejustice is still smarting from learning that professional wrestling was all staged when he was 32 years old.
It'd sure be nice if certain assholes could give their TDS a rest for one minute on one story for one day.
"Lonejustice is still smarting from learning..."
"Learning", asserted without evidence.
lonejuicebox, it was Jesse Ventura who was governor of Minnesota.
I seriously doubt you live anywhere in the Midwest.
