Definitely the people who go out on the streets in support of the countries that just bombed them and assassinated so many of their leaders, going back months, if not years, BTW, will not be viewed as quislings.
This is probably why Musk is on the outs, that USAID money is how you pay mobs to mill in the streets for weeks and months, astroturf ain't cheap. Trump is coming around to the whole neocon project. They are already working on Belarus, again, after failing there once.
I wonder if Trump is already all done with the mullahs. They had their chance and thought they could stonewall and bluster. Their allies are either gone or busy elsewhere. Watch the people.
Hah. Say what you want, but it's considerably more nuanced than "Assad must go." Maybe President Trump will come to a peaceful solution, maybe not. It's hard when you're dealing with mullahs keeping religious zealots in line. One thing is for sure, if he asked Congress for an AUMF, he'd get it. The donor class would choke the Rats back into line -very- quickly if they delayed.

"Donnie, we pay America petrodollars to make sure this kind of thing never happens... Inshallah! Do I look like a San Francisco femboy? I don't care a fig if you nuke the Iranians, just fix this."
The Straits of Hormuz are about 20 miles wide at their narrowest, and require about a 130° heading change to navigate through them, around the corner. Not fast, in other words, for supertankers. I've read that the shipping lanes, where there's a deep enough channel, are about 2 miles wide, for each direction. And the channels are in U.A.E. and Oman territorial waters, not Iran. Anything can happen with Islamic zealots, and the Irani Parliament has 'OK'd' it, leaving the final decision to the leadership.

I think that's right. I hope Trump drives a better deal than MBS's opening gambit.
I'm going to wait to see how things turn out. Then I will have witheringly insightful criticisms of Trump's policy decisions ... he was too hot-headed, he was too wimpy, he acted too soon, he acted too late, he should have listened to Israel more, he was in the pocket of Israel too much, he was too slow to abandon his previous rhetoric, he should have stuck with what got him elected.
You just wait a few months, and you'll see how blindingly obvious Trump's mistakes are/were.
Closing the straits would have a massive negative impact on oil prices and the world economy . BTW, Saudi Arabia condemned the attack on Iran, and wasn't happy about it. Not only is there minimal love for Israel, closing the straits is something they don't like. At all.
Here's the thing, the Iranians don't have to "Close the straits" they can just let off the odd missile now and then and damage/destroy a few oil tankers. Chaos will ensue. Just like they can keep taking potshots at Israel every week.
One of the most curious things about Iran is even though israelis have assassinated about 100 scientists and Iraninan Politicians over the years, the Iranians have rarely responded in kind. I'm sure they working overtime to change that.
Keeping the Strait of Hormuz open is first and foremost the problem of the oil exporting and importing nations whose product runs through there. We should be their backstop, just like we attacked Iran's nuclear facilities than Israel couldn't reach.
With the ability to rapidly ramp up production through fracking, we are somewhat insulated from supply shocks.
I wonder how much groundwork Trump laid for this scenario when he was in the Middle East a few weeks ago.
If Iran starts hassling tanker traffic, they incur the wrath of their neighbors, who may not be allies, but are also not belligerents - yet. Also, some huge percentage of GDP for Iran is from oil exports. Further, Iran's defenses are being ground up like corn meal every day, and their refining infrastructure is increasingly undefended. Blowing up refineries will make their problems infinitely worse, starting to manifest trouble in things like electricity and transportation. Meaning civil unrest.
We're in nuance territory now, and nobody here has any meaningful access to the intelligence required to provide nuance. No doubt there is outrage there, in the streets, that they've been attacked - even if the targets were strictly strategic and casualties, minimal. I haven't seen any proof that Iranians are ready to overthrow the mullahs, or that the Republican Guard is out of play.

You can literally smell the fear coming off the lefties right now- they are desperate to see Trump fail here and fear that he hasn't. I have no real idea whether or not the bombings were effective and I suspect we won't know for several weeks or months. I think the chances of the U.S. getting dragged into a land conflict here are small- there might well be more air strikes over the coming weeks. I also think people are badly misreading Trump's tweet here- all he seems to be doing here is suggesting to the Iranian people themselves to get rid of their government- a policy that is a long-standing one for the U.S. by the way. This isn't going to be Iraq part II. It could well turn into Libya II or Syria II should the Iranian people act to remove the mullahs but this isn't a ground conflict.

I don't think you are going to get much of a response if you ask the military to fight right now. I would be burying my IRGC uniform somewhere at this moment and there is no way I would be on any kind of boat with an Iranian flag right now.
The first boat that gets destroyed is going to be an object lesson.
People do not seem to understand how things are different now.
This will not be a forever war for one reason: Trump needs it to be over and wants it to be over.
Do not fool yourselves about Iran's ability to hold out in any real conflict with our armed forces. We could have killed every person in the Taliban in a month. We knew exactly where they were. We caught them multiple times. We were just held back.
Our armed forces will not be held back this time. If we want Iran to surrender Iran will surrender. And it will be shockingly abrupt.
That boat might be an American one. Drones are a very good answer to General Van Riper and his Millennium Challenge. But drones and hypersonic missles also make things very dangerous for American ships. Iron Dome can't block every missile, and carrier escorts aren't likely to.
When was Iran ever great? Perhaps in 1991, when the United States recognized that Iran possesses programs to develop weapons of biological, and chemical nature. These weapons were used against military and civilian targets in the 1990-1991 confrontation with Iraq and these weapons likely continue to be stockpiled.
Or perhaps it was when the Iran hostage crisis began on November 4, 1979, when Iranian students seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking 66 Americans hostage during a period of political upheaval following the Iranian Revolution. Ayatollah Khomeini was an Iranian cleric and revolutionary leader who played a crucial role in the 1979 Iranian Revolution, which overthrew the Shah and established the Islamic Republic of Iran. There never was a republic in Iran ran by Shia Muslims.
But Trump is unaware of Iranian history during his lifetime. Else he would not blabber about MIGA.
I’m surprised nobody has suggested Trump follow the policies used by previous Democrat administration to deal with Iran — give them billions of dollars to finance terrorism and their nuclear weapon development.
You're acting as if Iran has the flex to accomplish this to a serious degree. They don't. Granted. The Straights of Hormuz is a good chess piece. But without the rooks, pawns, and knights it's an empty gesture. You have to keep in mind that their ability to make and import their favorite weapon, missiles, has been severely curtailed. While the powers that are arrayed against them have an infinite supply. No. It's bluster. Even if it isn't and they manage a few attacks on shipping, soon they will have no navy. What will the mullahs call down upon The Great Satan then?
“Small works both ways. Can't we just park a few battleships [in the Strait of Hormuz] for the duration?”
The rise of naval air power and the aircraft carrier meant the fall of the battleship. The US Navy has no active battleships in service, although about 8 are still around as museum ships.
The Navy does have 3 classes of ships that can fire guided missles: the Ticonderoga class cruisers, the smaller Arleigh Burke class destroyers, and the Zumwalt class stealth “mega” destroyers.
Cruisers are the biggest, with destroyers being smaller. The old battleships were much bigger. The Ticonderogas are 567 feet long, compared to 860 feet for the old WWII Iowa class battleships that had to (barely) fit inside the Panama Canal locks.
Rusty - the claim is Iran doesn't have the missiles. I don't know if thats true. Can I trust the NYT's and the MSM? No. Iran had lots of missiles, and they know how to make them. In some ways they're even more advanced than Russia - and the Russians some missiles.
If we destroyed their production facilities, they will rebuild. Look at WWII - how many times did we bomb the German Synthetic oil plants? Yet, the Germans still kept them going.
As for parking ships in the straits. With hypersonic missiles, every ship is now a sitting duck. The day of the cruiser/battleship is over. A/C carriers can only function if the situation is right, and that means being far enough offshore, and being surrounded by protecting missle cruisers and destroyers.
To be fair Rocco, Iran was never great. I do agree that Persia on the other hand was great, and one of the largest empires that has been on this planet. There is much Persians can be proud of, but not Iranians. Then again, I'm not sure I want another Persian empire.
My, aren't we optimistic. It's very difficult to destroy with missiles when there are no missiles. Do you think building guided missiles is easy? And no. Iran has no hypersonic missiles. They would have used them if they had them. So what Iran has the option of is unguided missiles. You keep thinking that Iran has chips to play. Their best move right now is to fold.
"Trump’s unpredictability is his greatest asset. The mullahs don’t know what to expect next." That is right in Trump's wheel house. Keep 'em guessing. Let them fear the worst and hope for the best. The left has learned nothing from watching Trump over the years.

When you have to forget how many times you were stupidly wrong 9 days seems like forever.
Rich has to completely dump everything he has said or predicted once every week or so for years.
Also the US has run exactly 1 mission and it lasted less than 24 hours here so it hasn't even been 9 days.
