Clicking around, I think what fired up this topic again was Trump's Michigan rally the other day. The crowd was chanting "Three!" Trump's response: "Well, we actually already served three, if you count. But remember, I like the victories, I like the three victories which we absolutely had. I just don't like the results of the middle term."
ADDED: There's also the Atlantic interview with Trump, which was published on the 28th and am just noticing now, even though I've been reading the news continuously:
[Ashley] Parker: The Trump Organization is selling “Trump 2028” hats. Have you sought out a legal opinion about running a third time?
Trump: No.
Parker: I look at you and your presidency this time, and you’ve shattered so many norms, democratic norms—
Trump: That would be a big shattering, wouldn’t it?
Parker: That’s kind of my question.
[Jeffrey] Goldberg: That’s the biggest shattering of all.
Trump: Well, maybe I’m just trying to shatter—look.
Parker: Is that a norm too far?
Trump: Oh, people are screaming all the time, no matter where I go, “2028!” They’re happy. People are very happy with this presidency. I’ve had great polls....
Parker: “Trump 2028,” that’s not a norm you’re willing to shatter?
Trump: Well, I just will tell you this. I don’t want to really talk about it, but it’s not something that I’m looking to do. It’s not something that I’m looking to do. And I think it would be a very hard thing to do. But I do have it shouted at me: “No, no, you’ve gotta run."

That's pretty funny.
Hmm... Let's say it becomes clear - even more clear - that there was sufficient election interference in 2020 to have flipped the election to Biden. I know Trump was never certified as the winner, never inaugurated, did not serve... but what are the chances that a "novel legal theory" would allow his opponents to claim that because he DID win in 2020, he is therefore ineligible to serve now?
its as fake as most of those headlines,
Trump 28?
Why does that necessarily mean Donald Trump 28?
There are at least 2 other trumps who could run.
I love the trolling though. If he can keep the fascists (prog) spun up about this, it is that much less time energy and money they have to get spun up over something that matters.

Weird - the ADDED part is in sans-serif font for me. I wonder what happened.
Oh no, he is selling merchandise that triggers them. How dare he? Anyway…
Really, it is like they want to troll themselves. Even when Trump isn’t trying, the media wants to be trolled, so they can troll their audience that also wants to be trolled.

I remember posting a comment here a couple of years ago that that could happen.
Simply Trump's version of stray voltage, but instead of hurting people like Obama did as a distraction, Trump is just...talking.
Trump stopped Bush 2016.
Poltico headline is the best: majorities oppose fake Trump priorities! Well, when you can’t write majorities oppose real Trump priorities…
Trump talks trash to ramp up the TDS in his enemies heads. It is delightful to watch.
Dave Begley nailed it at the first comment.
But I loved the clip of the WaPo headline imploring Americans to stop being fooled about a third term.
Americans? I think they should be more pointedly correct on this. It should have read "Democrats. Progressives."
Some people prefer to keep up their hand-wringing fear. Even as it takes the form of ridiculousness.
Lame duck. 2028 is trump trying, so far successfully, to avoid being a lame duck and deserted by the Repub party. he has a lot to get done and if people begin to regard him as a lame duck his ability to push thru big things will decrease.
The left think he is a Nazi who will never leave office.
And they think this, not based on anything Trump jokes about - but what the Soviet Democratic ABC,CBS,NBC MSNBC newz tells them.
As usual, I see a lot of Trump critics crowing about how foolish and impossible Trump's 3rd term talk is. What I never hear is Trump supporters saying they expect him to (try to) get a 3rd term.

This the best theory I've heard so far and fits with one of the key Art of the Deal concepts: "give yourself multiple ways to win."

We have wonderful friends in Nova Scotia where we summer and sail and they are besides themselves in indignation at the thought of Pres Trump's wanting Canada to become the 51st State. No amount of our telling them that it's just a joke will mollify them. That said, the Governor of Alberta is pretty pissed off per the video I watched yesterday. And, from what I understand, it quite easy for a Province to secede from Canada and it's even easier for a a territory or area to become a State of the Union simply by a majority vote in Congress. We do live in interesting times.
Trump never closes the door on anything. The “norm” could be argued is anti-democratic.
We just need a simple, new law: Any President or former President who survives an assassination attempt is exempt from the two-term limit.
That's only fair. And it would disincentivize assassins.
80%+ of Soviet Democrat Loyalty press coverage of Trump is negative.
Since Trump came down the escalator, hasn't the media, led by the NYT, been telling us the norms no longer apply because Trump is different? Haven't his opponents in both parties been telling us, and showing us through their actions, the same thing? So who's "shattering norms?"
Is there any doubt these two narrative workers would happily write endless, convoluted rationales in support of an Obama 3rd term or the outright appointment of any Democrat to the presidency?
Trump talks trash to ramp up the TDS in his enemies heads.
@Danno, +1. I will be perfectly happy with President Vance being sworn in on Inauguration Day 2029.
It still hasn’t penetrated the minds of the woke, anti-Trump, elitist journalists that cover him that Trump is mentally sharper than they are.
The man does like to have fun. And just as the old court jesters would sometimes slap the king or other high personages with an inflated bladder, Trump can't resist banging on a reporter or two. He laughs--the public smiles--or at least that portion of the public that doesn't suffer from TDS.

And that worked out real well.
why would we want Nova Scotia,
The amusing part is that Trump supporters--you know, the dumb, unsophisticated, MAGA rubes--are in on the joke, while the elite, David Brooks-types get the vapors. Trump plays them like a fiddle.
remember less than a month ago?
back when (Because of that Darn Trump,) the stock market had that HUGE Crash?
The S&P500 is right now at 5,614.62..
Could SOMEONE tell me where that HUGE Crash went?
Readering? Rich? anyone?
anyone want to talk about that HUGE Crash?
if Canadians cannot figure out their own real interests, you can't blame trump, but seeing as they are largely a colony of China,
that earth shattering kaboom, yeah not so much,
"I just don't like the results of the middle term."
Truthfully, that Darn Trump's middle term SUCKED!
I thought he did a VERY Poor job administering then
I think it would be even more entertaining if he said something like: "Some people have even suggested I should be President forever. I'm thinking about it. 'MAGA Forever' has a nice sound to it, don't you think?"
Canadians shoot selves in head, Trump to blame, right AMDG?
Think about all the words spent on Trump vs Biden 2024. Then suddenly, the arguments were wasted, never to be used again, thrown out like flip phones, and Chia Pets. Be careful what you spend your new words on. Words wasted on this cannot be used on that. Suddenly you find yourself word poor when the rhetoric zombies rise from their graves.

It's a beautiful stretch of land with some good ports. Unfortunately, it's populated. And you don't want these people voting in your elections.
its duck season, Yancey,
I'm sure it is, but what would be the advantage, the minerals and oil in the West, might be useful

Yes, that pretty much sums up what happened.

WHY let a bunch of dead slave holders tell US who can lead our country?
Sure, she's Only 17 now.. But have you seen her golf?
Trump should declare the Canadian side of Niagara Falls a U.S. National monument.
Trump likes to shake up the establishment and see what happens.
He won't run in 2028, but can the crazy media be so sure? Meanwhile, Trump supporters are in on the joke.

Jamie: ...but what are the chances that a "novel legal theory" would allow his opponents to claim that because he DID win in 2020, he is therefore ineligible to serve now?
Practically 100%, and the only reason I say "practically" is because they haven't actually tried it yet. But that's a low bar.
I mean, people tried to say Trump's speech on Jan 6 prohibited him from serving another term, so I don't think there's anything too outrageous for someone to try.
Lame duck. 2028 is trump trying, so far successfully, to avoid being a lame duck and deserted by the Repub party.
How can the President be a lame duck when Congress hasn't done anything in the last twelve years? Other than the very minimal Trump tax cuts in 2017 and the Biden "reduce inflation" bill that didn't, what has Congress done?

Let 'em chase that squirrel, we got work to do.
Trump is a master with a laser pointer. Any one of his cabinet people just have to shout “cover me”, and off the media goes, chasing white rabbits.

Democrats would intentionally make failed attempts.
Jamie, I noticed the same thing
@Heartless Aztec, that was the theory back when Canada was more of a confederation but I have read that since the squabbles with Quebec they have either amended their constitution or passed legislation that at least requires consent of the other provinces. There's no way Ontario and Quebec are going to let Manitoba and Saskatchewan leave.
He should change gender and take two more terms as a female. Let's see the NYT bitch about that.
The third trimester? No wonder Democrats are apoplectic. Will no one abort this "burden"? They bray.
1. He's been doing standup the whole time.
2. Flood the zone, which results in:
3. Tariffs? What tariffs?
For some people in 1860 it must have seemed that leaving the US union was an easy process, but it turned out to be anything but. Breaking up Canada or the US would be even harder now, since a substantial part of the population of any state or province would oppose secession. That wasn't really the case in South Carolina in 1860.
Some of the provinces of Canada were originally smaller than they are now (MB, ON, QC, NL) and got land from the federal government, which now claims that provinces would have to give back that land if they leave. That's a real obstacle for Quebec. Hardly anybody lives in those northern lands, but a lot of hydroelectric energy comes from up there. The western provinces don't have that problem but there are probably other ways that Ottawa could make breaking up hard to do.
I envision Trump waking up, stretching then saying to himself, what will I do today to get the left to be-clown themselves?
Hmmm. So many options..
Get them to embrace a wife beating gang banger being deported, or
Support fully intact trans males in middle school girl locker rooms.
Run for a third term, or....
And, just like that, the trained seals on the left bark and flap their flippers, waiting for the fish that never comes.
Trump's trolling always cracks me up. I'd like to see him claim he saw the bullet coming and dodged it. People would immediately strike up a serous argument with him.

That would be f'ing hilarious! I may just buy a 2028 hat now.
It still hasn’t penetrated the minds of the woke, anti-Trump, elitist journalists that cover him that Trump is mentally sharper than they are.
Yes. He revels in the misunderestimation. It's a classic tactic older than Sun Tzu but included in his book.
I thought the squabbles with Quebec ended up making it easier for a province to leave. I read the long John Carter pieces linked yesterday. He wrote an earlier one with a worse? scenario--the whole country falls apart. I certainly don't want the Canadians unless most of their 25% foreign born are sent home.
This sparked a new thought:
Begley: It was a joke. Just like Canada as the 51st state was a joke.
AMDG: And that worked out real well.
Just think if the lying media did not inflame the populace with talk of Hitler and NAZIs and how Trump was hell-bent on subjugating the civilized world, maybe people would calm down and realize how much of what Trump says is mere positioning, wheeling and dealing.
They have built a huge monster in the minds of their readers that the Canadians (bless their hearts), much like the lemmingish DNC faithful, panicked and sold out to a smooth-talking leftist hell-bent on ruining their economy with netzero. Carney = AOC

"And that worked out real well."
Guess which world leader the new Premier called first. "You still our friend, Mr. President?"
“I envision Trump waking up, stretching then saying to himself, what will I do today to get the left to be-clown themselves?”
I don’t know if there has ever been anyone as good at trolling people, esp TDS sufferers and libtards, as Trump.
No, he isn’t going to run in 2028. He has a perfectly good replacement in VP Vance. He’d be, what, 82 at the election, and 86 when leaving office? Odds of not having health issues of some type at that age are low. And from what we’ve seen, likely a handsome flock of young great grandchildren.
Most of the tariffs he threatened were trolling, though he did get some mileage out of them, geopolitically. But he backed down very quickly with his plans to tariff the rest of the world. Mexico and Cental America got their waivers for helping control the flood of illegals into this country. But China was, always, the big target. The Chinese way of business, for millennia, has been to bribe everyone they could. In a democracy like ours, that’s very hard to fight. Esp, as with the Clintons and especially the Bidens, they manage to bribe the President. Very hard to fight. Except, as here, with tariffs. The centralized Chinese govt is producing billions of dollars of goods, that its people aren’t allowed to buy, and the US is their biggest market. Their govt is facing upwards of a hundred million workers unemployed, and therefore restive and many willing to fight their government.
But that brings up another point. Trump’s trolling takes everyone’s eyes off of what he is really doing. Massive cuts in government programs, and elimination of a significant number of govt workers who had been dedicated progressive warriors. Much of the money going to support progressive/Dem causes has been cut, while the Dems’ major funding tool, ActBlue, is facing serious investigations. The massive illegal alien influx we saw under Biden was turned into a trickle in fewer than 100 days. Military recruiting has done a 180° turnaround. The transgendered movement is seeing its extinction, as well as ModRNA vaccines. The list goes on.
And while Trump is making these massive changes, he has his opponents fixated on the possibility of a third term.
The media have stories already written about how Trump is a "lame duck" - scheduled for roll out right after the first hundred days. Those stories are shelved for now,
> After a hard return the font reverted to the default.
That's not how HTML works.
People may not realize this, but the blogger editor for posts is somewhat WSYWIG and gives the blog writer access to quite a few HTML features, like numbered lists, tables, etc, whereas the editor for comments isn't an editor - - it's just a plain textarea.
