"After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE."

"Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

Writes President Trump, on Truth Social.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

AND: Here's Marco Rubio at the State Department website: "Over the past 48 hours, Vice President Vance and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik. I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site. We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace."

Marko Rubio wasn’t that impressive as a candidate for President those many years ago. So I was surprised to see Trump pick him for Sec. of State. Turned out to be one of Trump’s best appointments. Congrats to Rubio and the rest of the Trump team.

CNN lede: US Vice President JD Vance, who just days ago claimed the conflict between India and Pakistan was “none of our business", has also shared President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire...

Full Vance quote: “What we can do is try to encourage these folks to deescalate a little bit, but we’re not going to get involved in the middle of war that’s fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it... You know, America can’t tell the Indians to lay down their arms. We can’t tell the Pakistanis to lay down their arms. And so, we’re going to continue to pursue this thing through diplomatic channels...”

Peace negotiations are so easy for the Hillbilly and Little Marco! One joint phone call on the subject and the Indians and Pakistanis pulled the firing pins out of their nukes.

How soon we forget that U. S. Grant gave up the presidency back in 1876 and offered no comments when Custer's Last Stand quit selling ice cream in Montana territory during the Battle of the Greasy Grass along the Little Big Horn.

If only Donny 2 Dolls could get his buddy Vlad to quit bombing Kiev.

Pakistan had to fold, they gave practically all of their weapons to Ukraine to kill Russians for us. That was after the Biden Administration ordered the country to arrest and imprison their democratically elected leader, who was the most popular politician in Pakistan, you know, to fight against despotism.

You know where else the Biden Administration was "fighting despotism"? In Bangladesh, where we backed a coup because the democratically elected leader there didn't want to hand over a strategic island in the Bay of Bengal that we feel like we need for our navy.

Meanwhile, Germany is planning to ban the most popular political party, this by Fred BlackRock Mertz, who didn't even become chancellor on the first ballot, France has arrested its most popular opposition leader, and Macron can't even get a budget passed through the National Assembly, and so passed his budget by diktat, you know, to fight "despotism." I could go on about how Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, etc, all subverted their normal democratic procedures to fight "despotism" and to "protect democracy" over who gets to rule over a significant population of ethnic Russians within the borders of the old USSR.

India contradicts US claims: Ceasefire declaration leaves questions unanswered ~ The South First

India contradicts Rubio, saying the cease-fire was worked out directly between India and Pakistan, and that there had been no decision to hold talks on any other issue at any location.

Although Trump made the announcement, let’s be honest—his role in the truce was slim to none. U.S. credibility has fallen so low that the flare-up likely occurred because of that power vacuum.

Giving Trump credit here is like praising the bell ringer for putting out the fire—or the guy blowing the “all clear” whistle after the danger has passed. The territorial dispute continues, and it will flare up again.

Big Mike చెప్పారు...

Note that it’s easier to broker a cease fire when the President hasn’t already told one side that a little incursion is okay. Just sayin’

India claims Pakistan has resumed shelling in Kashmir, just hours after everyone congratulated themselves on solving this issue.

What a legendary deal by Trump! Hours of no shelling. Thats going in the history books for sure.

Kakistocracy చెప్పారు...

⬆️ Of course the Trump administration had to claim credit for the ceasefire, and condescend to India and Pakistan as if they were squabbling children. Distaste for Trump and his grandstanding may be a significant point of agreement unifying India and Pakistan.

Typical Trump: take credit for anything good happening even if he has nothing to do with it, and blame others for anything bad happening.

The situation reminds of me of Trump claiming the last two months that he was already negotiating tariffs with China, when, in fact, no talks were happening, and are only beginning to happen now.

Welcome to a world where some conflicts are irreconcilable. Sometimes the best that can be done is to achieve a temporary peace, and even that can take some time and some initial failures and backtracking. Welcome to a world to a world where rogue commanders are trigger-happy and hard to control, and a world where people are always arguing over things of value to them, and no one can be trusted entirely.

And they did this knowing full well it would ruin the public school system, healthcare and hospitals, welfare system for OUR needy and expecting our hardworking taxpayers to foot the bill.

And THEY can f*ck right off, the miserable clowns.

Trump's greatest accomplishment domestically wasn't the peace or the prosperity although we really appreciate that.

Jamie చెప్పారు...

The situation reminds of me of Trump claiming the last two months that he was already negotiating tariffs with China, when, in fact, no talks were happening, and are only beginning to happen now.

I may be mistaken, but I don't recall Trump's saying that tariffs were being negotiated with China - just that we were talking with China. To my mind, this is a meaningful distinction: wasn't it Churchill who said the thing about not the end, not the beginning of the end, but perhaps the end of the beginning? If the goal is to revamp our trade relationship with China (which I believe we do), perhaps the initial talks wouldn't be about the tariff percentages or barriers to imports or lack of barriers to exports, but just "We need to talk." "No!" "We NEED to talk - your economy is crumbling." "We don't want to talk about this!" "You need to talk about this"?

And now, as "meaningful" talks begin, the groundwork has been laid by the previous diplomatic pressure.

The insistence of some, in our time largely on the left because of Trump (ISTM), that the first negotiation must be the successful one reminds me of the "unified field theory" approach of academics et al. to social ills: if you can't solve the whole hydra of a problem at one go, you shouldn't even start.

By all means, let nuclear powers duke it out without even trying to get them to the table. Better that than participate in negotiating a ceasefire that might not hold forever - there is after all face to be saved.
