Excellent program on Jesse Watters’ show this evening. He was talking with Musk and the DOGE team and they all shared very interesting info. I told my wife perhaps they should ALL get the Medal of Freedom at some point over the next 4 years.

Listening to Frank Sinatra. Waiting for the wife to get back from her shopping. Thought the guy was cheesy when I was young. "My way" - just the sort of crap John McCain would like.

But there's another Frank. The "One for one baby, One for the road" Sinatra. The "Blues in the Night", The late 50s, early 60s "Only the lonely" Frank Sinatra. That guy was solid Gold.

Seems the moment brain addled Biden took office, child porn prosecutions dropped out of sight. 100 days of Trump in office, and they're on the uptick again. Notices of them on blogs and websites and local papers. And, it appears a lot of them are some of those illegal immigrants the Democrats just seem to love. Not all of them. Some are Democrat politicians, and even a few Republican pols to be honest.

And there's a lot more noise about who is actually performing the child trafficking, though still silence on the customers.

FormerLawClerk म्हणाले...

According to GROK, Doge has claimed to have saved so far $160 billion (this is debateable, but let's go with that number).

That's a big number, so let's make it more relatable.

Let's say you were trying to cut your cocaine budget because you're borrowing money to buy cocaine and you're $34,000 in debt. Let's say you spend $6,751 a year on cocaine, and you're borrowing $1,900 of that every year adding to your debt. So you decide to cut back.

If you save as much as DOGE has, then you would spend $160 less per year on cocaine.

You would still be borrowing $1,740 a year for your cocaine habit. And you would still be drowning in debt because you are a cocaine addict.

I'm not so sure of that. It's kind of like the TSA. Do we WANT all the details of everything that's been stopped? Because publicising those details will help the next attempt to get past the TSA, or help hide stuff from DOGE.

I can wait for the results.

We already have the answer to that.

Nothing.

TSA is absolutely useless since they are not allowed to profile terrorists. Heaven forbid we profile the only group of people who randomly detonate killing others around them. That would be discriminatory.

Iman म्हणाले...

We’ll all have to wait, Jerry, and the teamsharing some anecdotal instances doesn’t really spill the beans. The people who have been exploiting the lack of traceability, accountability have already begun backing away from trying the same actions they’ve all been getting away with for God knows how long.

One instance there was what amounted to a $20M slush fund that people had been dipping their beaks in and then the team instituted a policy where one had to submit online a basic receipt for the activity before drawing any funds out and - all of a sudden - there were no more withdrawals from the fund.

I find it hard to understand how this total unaccountability for hundreds of millions has gone on for decades.

Diet tip: Grok or other AI, preferably one that remembers your conversations from day to day.
By diet, I don’t mean only for losing weight but to keep track of sodium, proteins, carbs, potassium, iron, etc. Whatever you want to keep track of.
If you eat out all you have to do is input the name of the restaurant and your entree and Grok (or other AI) will calculate the rest. If you make modifications to the entree - without rice for example - Grok will take that into account as it calculates your totals.
Also Grok will make suggestions. For instance Grok told me I should try to add some edamame. So I asked what restaurants in my area (I gave Grok my zip code) served edamame with their salads. Grok gave me a list of restaurants and entree ideas.
Grok will also criticize some choices as not being in line with the goals you set. For instance, I didn’t know sour cream had salt in it.
It’s amazing how helpful Grok is in this area.

Eva Marie म्हणाले...

Let me add to the subject of diet and Grok.
I have found it most helpful to make one entry a day and to specifically say “This is a new day and the date”
If you don’t tell Grok it’s a new day, Grok will add your food choices to the day before. If you input your meals one at a time then Grok will give you this long breakdown of each meal. It’s just less confusing for me to do one input at the end of the day.

According to the NYT, Mr. Musk, now that he is stepping away from DOGE, and without providing details, has said that DOGE is likely to save taxpayers only $150 billion.

That is about 15 percent of the $1 trillion he pledged to save, less than 8 percent of the $2 trillion in savings he had originally promised, and a fraction of the nearly $7 trillion the federal government spent in the 2024 fiscal year.

The Partnership for Public Service... estimates that firings, re-hirings, lost productivity, and paid leave of thousands of workers will cost upward of $135 billion this fiscal year. At the Internal Revenue Service, a DOGE-driven exodus of 22,000 employees would cost about $8.5 billion in revenue in 2026 alone, according to figures from the Budget Lab at Yale University. The total number of departures is expected to be as many as 32,000.

And then someone comes along and threatens the whole edifice. No wonder they're so angry.

Nominated for outstanding editing!

That’s like giving Barack Obama a Nobel Peace Prize after he invades Canada and kills 10 million people.

At least Obama did absolutely nothing to win his award. 60 Minutes used “editing” to rewrite the interview to make Harris seem less of a chowderhead than she is.

60 Minutes is the stinky fish. Emmy, do you really want to wrap whatever is left of your fish wrapper reputation to that stinky fish?

Emmy-award nominated chicanery and deceit.

I remember at the time, 60 Minutes was accused of taking the response from one question and moving it to another question.

And the response from 60 Minutes was to refuse to release all the interview footage.

After the election was over, 60 Minutes finally released all the footage. According to Fox...

The released raw transcript and footage showed that both sets of Harris' comments came from the same response, but CBS News had aired only the first half of her response in the "Face the Nation" preview clip and aired the second half during the primetime special.

So CBS is not guilty of the really bad thing (creating a response that wasn't there). But what's interesting is that instead of releasing the entire interview -- which is what honest journalists would do -- they hid it until the election was over.

I’ll be disappointed by a paltry $160B annual savings. It’s clearly a drop in the bucket of what should or could be achieved. My biggest concern is that the efficiency drive will peter out.

On X, Oilfield Rando has regularly included posts about specific programs that the feds have funded that are nonsensical. Reducing federal budgets by those amounts would be a good start.

Stop throwing money at so-called NGOs, universities, charities, etc would be another step.

A straight 10% (just to start the conversation) reduction across the board in budgets, salaries, etc, would be another.

Iman म्हणाले...

Doing more with less would be a novel approach for federal employees.. It’s a common approach for the private sector, who are actually rated on and paid on performance.

Which - come to think of it - would also be a novel approach for federal/state government employees.
