Warmed up nicely today, it was in the 40s. Took advantage and walked 12 miles. I did soak my feet afterwards in a warm Epsom salt foot bath.

Beautiful pics!

It appears Democrats in California are slowly waking up to the fact that the “leaders” they vote for have brought nothing but incompetence, graft, grift and bad juju to our fecked up state.

Looks very cold, but beautiful. The photo other day of two people riding bikes on the ice/ how thick does the ice get, and do people fish on the lake during winter time too? I've never lived somewhere that the lakes or bodies of water freeze.

Whether subject to challenge or not, Trump fired IGs before any could claim to be investigating his administration — so there’s no claim of retaliation or obstruction of justice. Last time he made a huge mistake by not firing Comey on day one. I haven’t heard but hope he fired the U S Attorneys right away (Every. Single. One.)

In the ACC now, we have two teams in California, one in Texas, one in Indiana, and several Yankee schools. It's not my conference anymore. I don't know what the fuck it is. We got illegal immigrants in the ACC now. Have y'all been vetted? Who the fuck are you? I don't recognize my basketball conference anymore. I couldn't name all the schools if you gave me a test. I couldn't diagram the ACC basketball tournament if I had six hours to do it. I ain't singing the song and I ain't waving the flag. The ACC is toast. And y'all corrupt fuckers are motivated by money and nothing else. I'm talking to you, you Deans! Or Athletic Directors. Whoever the fuck is making these decisions. You pretend to be about scholarship and you are money, money, money and more money. And the kids have to fly eight hours round trip to play a basketball game. Liars, liars, scholars on fire.

The link is to the 1952 citizenship act in toto. the word citizen (along with it's appearance in citizenship) appears 299 times. And when it comes to birthright citizenship, any relevant section indicates that being born in the USA is not a wham bam slam dunk now you're a citizen. In fact, it seems to indicate quite the opposite. But hey,. the democrats found one judge who can't read the 14th amendment itself or laws relating to it, and refused to hear any argument at all that birthright citizenship wasn't a wham bam slam dunk now you're a citizen, so until it gets to a higher court with judges who read the law we're stuck with his absurd and lawless decision.

And the law seems to go right along with the senate debate and understanding when the 14th amendment was adopted. Ah, but what does history and original intent mean when making a ruling like that makes you feel bad?

Saying Congress needs to approve of the Chief Executive firing his employees seems just so very unconstitutional it's not even funny. I suspect the ultimate destination for this is that civil servants are going to once again revert back to the spoils system. Which, though I am one, I'm perfectly in favor of. Doesn't matter your political views, boiler operators need to be able to operate boilers safely. What I'd like to see is a kind of two tier system- where jobs that require specialized knowledge or skills with no policymaking involved require testing for competence before obtaining. And if the job is critical- can't be fired for anything other then misconduct or incompetence unless there's a replacement ready to go. Plant operators of any kind, plumbers, electricians, those types of jobs.

To whom it may concern:

Cogent: An adjective that describes an argument, statement, or presentation that is clear, logical, and convincing. It implies that the reasoning is well-structured, relevant, and powerfully persuasive.

Trenchant: An adjective that describes language or thought that is sharp, incisive, and direct, often highlighting keen insight or biting clarity. It typically suggests forcefulness and clarity of expression or analysis.

Please make a note of it.

I listened to an NPR story on birthright citizenship today. They've taken a new direction from their all-gender-alphabet-all-the-time programming model. Now that Trump is in office, there is a whole raft of 'serious issues' that must be exposed and investigated !

They've dumbed down their reporting to almost imbecilic levels - it's appalling. The story today began with the case the Supreme Court used to test the 14th Amendment, centering on an American-born Chinese cook that returned to China for a visit, and then was refused re-entry to the US when he returned, in order to facilitate the government's efforts to create the test case. When the NPR journalist relayed the story on this, saying that the Chinese American was not allowed to leave his returning steamship, a steamship whistle was heard in the distant background. When they changed scenes to discuss the historical test case, a judge's gavel was heard thumping the bench in the background to set the scene.

I couldn't listen to more of these sound effects. The idea that news reporting is now being treated as if it's some kind of dramatic historical reenactment, on a museum video loop for all the visitors, is too much for me to waste time on. NPR has made itself even more ridiculous, but I guess they're just pandering to their fundraiser client lists.

Fun news from the NYT:
"The acting attorney general, James McHenry, fired more than a dozen prosecutors who worked with Special Counsel Jack Smith on the two federal prosecutions of Donald J. Trump, saying they could no longer be trusted to do their jobs."

"Several Colombian staff members of the World Bank were among those deported after Trump administration took a number of steps, including revoking visas, over Colombia’s refusal to accept military deportation flights."

All in all, a FAFO kind of day.

You need to illustrate the proper use of the term in a sentence:

The official portraits of Melania Trump 2017 and 2025 are as different as the President’s were. In 2017 she showed her feminine side. In 2025 Melania is showing her masculine side.

"Masculine" and "feminine" are genders. As such, they apply to words, not things, or persons. Persons, being a subset of mammals, have sex, not gender. And Melania Trump is very clearly female. I do see, that it somehow makes more sense to talk about a "feminine side", and a "masculine side", than to talk about female and male "sides". Nonetheless, I see nothing "masculine" about Melania Trump. She may exhibit virtues that are traditionally regarded as masculine (look up the etymology of "virtue"), but she is admirable, and even formidable, in a decidedly feminine way.

Jupiter said...

4 mph would be a fairly brisk walking pace. Did you walk for three hours?

Jupiter said...

My sense of the etymology of "cogent" is that it involves sticking together. Like coherent. The parts of a cogent argument fit together to form a whole with no obvious points of vulnerability. Trenchant, on the other hand, applies to observations, not arguments. A trenchant observation places its auditor in a position to understand what would not otherwise be clear.

The impoundment crisis has been imposed. The Trump administration is freezing nearly all federal grants and loans, domestically and internationally—hitting the pause button on what may potentially amount to hundreds of billions of dollars appropriated by Congress for a dizzying array of specific, pre-ordained purposes.

The memo excludes funds paid directly to individuals, like Social Security or other benefits—although it offers no principled basis for the distinction.

The freeze purports to be temporary—and only “to the extent permissible” by law, whatever that means, since approval has already been given anyway. The Supremes need to put this idiocy to sleep immediately. First Trump lays off a bunch of people and then imposes a hugely impossible task of shutting down all spending after figuring out all the details.

Hopefully that applies to all the funding going to NGOs assisting in illegal immigration. They say they're only helping people seeking "sanctuary" but really they're only heading here because they know they will be put up in fancy hotels, be given free health care, debit cards and other assorted goodies. Let's not forget all the gang members heading here to establish new territories, spurred by news of lax law enforcement in many areas. (Did anyone say Soros D.A.s? I think they did!)

Yancey: "the records proving it was a lab leak and that Fauci knew it all along and covered it up are going to end up in the public domain inside of the next month."

In some ways, the best possible outcome is to find out that the US and ChiComs jointly unleashed Covid on the world through a combination of incompetence and well-intentioned deviousness ("we have to research this threat even though it's illegal to do so").

Definitely good for US-ChiCom relations - otherwise we would have to cope with the idea that they killed a million of our people and we're not doing anything about it.

Not great for US and Chicom relations with the rest of the world. Other countries will be sending us the bill for all their Covid woes (never mind that most of those woes were self-inflicted by lockdown). The Chinese will just tell them to GFY as they do with global warming, etc.

So yet another reason to be thankful for Trump even if you don't like him very much - he will also tell them all to GFY. Imagine if the globalists were still in charge here - they'd come up with some huge Covid reparations wealth-export plan.

Take him seriously, not literally. The Danes have set up Greenland to be an independent country in all but declaration, though they get significant financial aid from Denmark which I figure the Danes wouldn't mind getting free of. We already have a significant base there. In a year or so, after things quieted down a bit, Denmark relinquishes claims to Greenland and grants Greenland full independence, Greenland and the US sign a Compact of Free Association, and hardly anybody notices anything changing except the Chinese.
