Writes Donald Trump on Truth Social.
Discussed here, at The Hill:
His joking comes after the president-elect announced last month that he would impose a 25 percent tariff on products imported into the U.S. from Canada and Mexico.... Trump said the move would exert pressure on the trading partners to better crack down on the movement of fentanyl and other drugs into the U.S. and fortify border security.... He has also jokingly called Trudeau the “governor” of the “Great State of Canada.”
ADDED: BBC asks: "Will Trudeau Resign? Four paths Trudeau can take as political crisis deepens."

Our government wastes so much of our money.
It's a clever way to drive a wedge between Canadians. They don't like Trump's dismissive attitude towards Canada, but they hate Trudeau.
You hear that Denmark? We shall soon be neighbors. The USA's march towards that frozen little waste you call "green land" continues apace. We shall not cease until all of frozen N. America is ours. If you were wise, you might want to open negotiations now. You might not get a better deal later.
Yes. Pisses away is more accurate. They vigorously defend it, too. Any mere suggestion of reducing the growth of waste is the equivalent of murdering widows and orphans. The Musk and Ramalama Show will at least expose it for what it is…
I live that population map what shows where in Canada Canadians live. They’re all pressed up against the US border, their noses making prints on the glass…
President Shitlord is my favorite president.
They may want to join us, but I don't want to join them. Yeah, that's just what we need 50 million more socialists and leftists. No thanks.
I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!
Yes, it's a joke, but no thank you. Canada is rich in natural resources and is full of wonderful people, some of them my own family, but there's no way in hell I want them having any say in how the United States is run.
Trudeau's horrible cruel vindictive Soviet behavior during Covid - that alone should force him out.
I'm hoping for a no confidence vote and an early election. But the leader of the Party that controls the balance of power has a pension that doesn't vest until early next year, and apparently he's very concerned he will personally lose the next race.
So Canada is going to have to put up with Trudeau for a couple more months
This. I'd seriously consider Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta etc. But BC, Ontario and Quebec are the belly of the socialist Canadian beast.
I'd like to know the facts behind the $100M/yr.
The burning question in my mind is, "Why did Freeland resign ?" She's been virtually joined at the hip with Fidelito since the start of his reign. Sure, the Socialist miracle is falling apart on schedule, from a budget point of view, and she's avoided the embarrassment of being forced to report on it, but.... My guess is, she's after his job, and this is her opportunity. Of course, she has some rather revealing family history to get around, of the Eastern European goose-stepping variety....
He never played hockey
^^^^^^^^^^^this. Late Feb/Early March.
Why would the son of a Cuban dictator play hockey?
The dude that read Justin the riot act as he left that Toronto fundraising meeting deserves a medal.
Well, at least Mississippi would no longer be at the bottom in per capita income. Pretty sure it would leap over every Canadian province.
Canadian MPs are acknowledging people fly into Montreal and then just head south into NY, VT, or NH. I'm sure it's not as bad as the purposefully open Democrat southern border, but it something the Canadian gov't can control. And they should. A reasonable ask on Trumps part.
Justin Trudeau is douchebag. Especially his draconian COVID policies. I don't find myself giving a shit about Canada. They fucked their own country up in the last nine years. Funny. Because of Trump is looks like Pierre Poilievre will be the next prime minister.
There are parts of Canada we want, and parts (e.g., Quebec) that are worthless on their best day. Take the four western provinces and the Yukon. Give them Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Taxachusetts, and call it even.
A trade deficit does not constitute a subsidy. This is true 18th century thinking.
What the fuck is he talking about? We have a $100 billion dollar trade deficit with Canada, that is not a "subsidy".
"We shall not cease until all of frozen N. America "
don't forget! it snows in Mexico City!
we NEED a defensible border! you don't get much more defensible that the Darién Gap!
North America Belongs to America!
Castro loved playing hockey and was known as a goon. How do you think he lost that front tooth?
Famous Castro quote: "You gotta do something with this boy, Margaretta. He'll [Justin] have a cock in mouth before he's 12 years old."
leave Upper and Lower Canada (Ontario and Quebec) to the brits..
NorthNorth Dakota is OURS!
Our federal government wastes a large majority of our tax monies, recklessly spending on foreign countries and foreign influence-peddling, generously subsidizing government workers and elected politicians, providing our president and senior federal officials a lifestyle like a king and his court, while mostly ignoring natural disasters and major problems here which genuinely affect us US taxpayers.
North Carolina hurricane disaster response is 2024 #1 example.
I don't want the French pukes in Eastern Canada. Let then freeze where they are... just invite the Western Providences and Territories. They are far more conservative and they have oil! Each providence and Territory becomes a STATE!!!
my comments are vanishing again. Gee - google. wonder why?
George "Fentanyl" Floyd syndrome is a progressive condition that aborts thousands annually. American Lives Matter (ALM)
Frankly, I prefer N MT. Most beautiful mountains in N America. We get a lot of them down shopping and getting medical treatments in Kallispell. I would throw in a lot of BC, since WA is too locked into left wing lunacy by mail in voting, and ID would be busy assimilating Eastern OR and WA.
Then answer Mike Lee's question about this...and watch as the swamp does it anyways because they hate us all.

What do RFK Stadium, $50 billion for Big Pharma, and two new Smithsonian museums do for Americans devastated by the hurricanes?
People are underestimating how beautiful Quebec is. Most of what you hate about it is the result of its special French status. If Canada becomes part of the US, those privileges would end and Quebec would have no choice but to clean its act.
That's because COLD is EXPENSIVE. I lived and farmed for several years in Yukon. Size of Texas, with 37,000 inhabitants.
>I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!"
Writes Donald Trump...<
"Great" idea, Donald - but only if you don't mind pouring 50 new leftist sheep into the House of Representatives. Best you think your idea over just a bit more...
It isn't waste. It is money laundering and theft.
Almost everyone working in Washington DC could be laid off and no American would notice.
Actually I think it would be an interesting idea to trade them Massachuesettes, Conneticut and the NE states north of them for everything in Canada minus Quebec and Ottowa.
She wanted to girl boss to Trump.
Castro jr. couldn't give her that opportunity. She woke up to the reality that she is going to be investigated and hopefully imprisoned for seizing bank accounts.
Bingo.
If your IQ was above room temperature you would know what he is talking about.
AMDG is as dumb as Freder.
54'40" or fight!
In the very unlikely event that there is any interest from Canadians in taking this beyond the joke stage, we could offer them (or some of the provinces) entry as territories rather than states. They will get to pay taxes, enjoy American freedom and international protection, and travel freely in the states, but no representation, no voting except in local elections, with an American viceroy having ultimate authority.
I'm sure they will be clamoring for that plan.
Deserves a medal but will probably be charged and convicted of a hate crime against a latino.
Another case where you have to understand that Trump isn't meaning to be taken seriously. On a serious note, however, we really should make a formal offer to Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan as one big state. The Yukon can be made part of Alaska.
I just received this missive from my Canadian cousin. It must be making Canadians even grouchier about Trudeau: "Our mail strike has prevented me from sending cards this year. Strikers are ordered back to work on Tuesday. We're not receiving new mail until tomorrow Thurs. Dec. 19. Cards etc.will be delivered after Christmas."
At least the writer recognizes that he’s joking. If this were one of the standard MSM outlets they would be fact-checking him.
Trudeau is Canada’s Trump. Just on the other side. He is a narcissistic attention craver. He demands loyalty from his colleagues…… above competence and care for the country.
I’m surprised both of these upper class twits aren’t besties. JT and DJT, have a lot in common with each other beyond a couple of initials.
@gilbar: We had the chance to move the border a lot farther south with the Gadsden Purchase of 1854 in southern Arizona and New Mexico, but the Manifest Destiny generation didn't go there.
As originally envisioned, the purchase would have encompassed a much larger region, extending far enough south to include most of the current Mexican states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Coahuila, Chihuahua, Sonora, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas. The Mexican people opposed such boundaries, as did anti-slavery Americans, who saw the purchase as acquisition of more slave territory. Even the sale of a relatively small strip of land angered the Mexican people, who saw Santa Anna's actions as a betrayal of their country. They watched in dismay as he squandered the funds generated by the Purchase. Contemporary Mexican historians continue to view the deal negatively and believe that it has defined the American–Mexican relationship in a deleterious way.

There were clear cultural limits...spread too far and your country becomes a mini UN or EU.
In the UK a "trusted and loyal" Member of Parliament resigns before a failing Prime Minister is forced out. This gives the party a chance to present itself in a new light for the next election.
The instant that Freeland resigned I thought: "She will campaign to replace Castreau soon."
Per the COVID trucker blockades of 2022, all that's required to cripple Canada's economy is a few dozen trucks at each of the border crossing points. We don't even need tariffs to transform their policies.
I once sat in front of a Canadian guy in a theater seat. His feet got squished when I lowed the seat cushion (I didn't know) and he was in pain. He didn't say "ouch" or scream. He carefully explained how I was making his feet hurt...
Seriously. WTF?
So good..worth preserving. This is your brain on Richweed.

I can think of two ways the US massively subsidizes Canada and other countries. And no, I'm not going to provide any links or research the true amounts, which are probably far more than $100,000,000 per year. This is all as I understand it from years of paying attention to the news:
1. Most new drugs are discovered in the US and we pay prices that cover the huge research costs as well as the cost of manufacture. Other countries then manufacture them under license and just pay the cost of manufacture. (Plus some profit in both places, of course.)
2. Canada spends very little on defense, far less than the 2% they promised along with other NATO members. They have very little in the way of army, navy, or air force. Like Mexico, whose air force consists of 4 decades-old fighter jets, only 1 or 2 of which can fly at any given time, Canada depends on the US, assuming correctly that we would defend them from any foreign invasion, since it would also endanger us.
I don't know where Trump comes up with that number. The trade deficit is about half that. He must be adding in defense spending or something like that.

If by some weird chance Canada and the United States were to become one country, Republicans would disappear as a party. The Democrats would become the party of the Right.
LOL!!!
And to think that is probably the best gaslighting BS Abacus Boy Rich, the Harry Sisson of althouse blog, could possibly come up with!
Oh how the UNmighty have fallen to even more UNmighty lows thru herculean moronic efforts!

I lived in Alberta for 25 years, after growing up in Montana. In my opinion, the Canadian Rockies are more spectacular than anything in Montana because they are bigger, wilder, and have many fewer people rambling around in them. I've hiked most of Banff, Yoho, and Kootenay, plus a lot of Jasper National Parks and the non-park lands both east (Kananaskis, White Goat Wilderness) and west (Assiniboine and even in the Selkirks). Had a half-dozen grizzly bear charges, climbed some spectacular snow and ice peaks, climbed a lot of rock and ice routes, skied all over in winter, done multiple glacier fed river crossings, and camped on ice fields, hanging glacier valleys, and Alaska-like high alpine terrain. That said, I moved back to MT because it is my home, and the Madison, Gallatin, Absaroka, Crazy, and Beartooth mountains are pretty damn fun places to explore, not to mention that Trudeau and more than half of Canadians are woke leftists who like to use their power in the most asinine ways (truckers, gun confiscations, stifling free speech, climate hysteria -- remarkable because Canada has much to gain from a warmer climate -- etc.). There is a reason that per capita incomes in Canada are on par in most provinces with our poorest states. Inviting Canada to join the US would give another almost California sized state that is poor as Alabama but leftist as Massachusetts. No thanks.
"remarkable because Canada has much to gain from a warmer climate"
The people of Canada, that is. The rulers have more to gain from continuing climate hysteria.
After the American Revolution, it seemed likely that Canada, or portions thereof, would join the US. But history can be capricious. If the US had a President with better military skills than Maidson, the War of 1812 might have brought that about.
Personally, I think it would be fine if Canada, or parts thereof, joined the US. But while in fantasy land, I'd limit the number of States to 50 - there's something very special about that number. So, for every Canadian province that joined (Canada is too big to be one State - some such as the Maritme privinces could be lumped together, but Ontario and BC are State size) some US Sates would have to merge. We don't need two Dakotas and Rhode Island is too small to find on the map and pretty much now a suburb of Boston.
Perfect. We don’t need a colder Seattle.
We could give Quebec to Mexico. The food would be good, and the French LitCrit Separationists could find out what really happens when soft hands try to invoke nostalgic revolutions.

Ha ha. But taking the question of absorbing Canada seriously for a moment—note that I'm (originally) a Montanan too (though I live now in far northern Calif.)—I think not.
Canada should not become just a single state in the U.S. in my view. It's really absurd. Nor, I think, would Canada's sovereign provinces accept being made mere subservient “counties” of a single, great state of Canada.
The only solution as I see it is to admit all the several Canadian provinces separately as states American, one for one.
If most of the provinces are presently seen as being “too liberal” for the (soon to be) ruling Republican Party in America's taste—well then, make both the U.S. and Canada more conservative! Make conservatism succeed—brilliantly!
I suspect they—the MAGA Republicans—can do it. Whether they will or not, time will tell the tale.
