"It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada."

"I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all! DJT"

That's DJT, on Truth Social.

That’s especially funny because Canada does have a Governor General. But Trump should know that the position of King of Canada is already taken.

Maybe Trump can negotiate a swap — their four western provinces for the New England states.

Canada has got real problems. Economic, demographic, social, and near-term financial. Talk to Canadians. They'll tell you the same thing. They're a decade (maybe sooner) from becoming as much of a failed state as Mexico. Trump sees the same thing. So does Castreaux.

That's when and how you troll someone, when you know they're screwed.

Those jokes are very, very, very old. Canada has long overcompensated for their status as a US economic and cultural satellite. If the manifest destiny push of the 19th century had been a bit stronger there would be no Canada today.

Trudeau is more like Biden. His tenure as Prime Minister has been entirely dependent on the support of Canada's leftist NDP Party, without which Trudeau's party would not have the House of Commons seats to form a government. In exchange - Trudeau has championed the same leftist progressive excesses that just got the Dems kicked out of power in the US this past November.

Western canada should have left the country in the 80s. They have nothing in common with Quebec or Toronto. But for reason, dumb cons are always patriotic and loyal and don't want to do anything "radical". Of course, mostly like USA rightwingers they'd rather just grumble and complain. They're like that guy at the Bar, y'know that guy, who's always ranting on about "By God, I'm not going to take it anymore, I'm going to quit that job/get a divorce/etc" and never does.

Canadians are a study in the weaknesses of being patient and pleasant. The western half subsidizes the eastern half, and are paid for their largess with ridicule and spit-in-the-face, politically. Canadians are slow-burn - but they do burn eventually. Castreaux is on his way out I think. Pierre Poilievre has potential.

"The Great State of Canada." Let's just annex Alberta and leave the rest to the Brits and, peut-être, France.

doctrev বলেছেন...

The Chinese and Sikhs in Vancouver have zero desire to leave the country, so British Columbia isn't either. Carbon taxes are holding back the economy of Alberta at a time where it really can't afford that. The province would be much better off as an American territory, and I'm sure President Trump knows that.

PM বলেছেন...

Darkisland বলেছেন...

Trudeau is appointed by the Governor General of Canada. The Governor is appointed by the King of Canada who coincidentally, also happens to be the king of England.

And people think of Canada as an independent, democratic, country.

Trudeau is not Canada's prime minister. He is the King of Canada's prime minister. His oath is not to Canada, the Canadian people, the Canadian constitution or even to the king of Canada. It is to the person of Charles III.

(Remember how people are always shocked how Germans swore fealty to Hitler personally?)

" I, [name], do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles the Third, King of Canada, his heirs and successors. So help me God."

Pretty much everyone who draws a govt paycheck has to swear this or a similar oath to King Chuck.

Not one. more. word. about the democratic country to the north, please.

The Canadian political, media, and academic elite has been as featherheaded and incompetent as our own, if not more so, but the economic and financial elite has apparently been more hardheaded. Canada managed to avoid our S&L and subprime mortgage crises. There's a theory that the Canadian government is really run by the big Bay Street banks, and the nonsense Trudeau talks is all just for show. Maybe we'll find out if that's really true.

Lazarus বলেছেন...

They probably say the same thing about the US, expecting us to break up. The reality seems to be that you can never get a solid and substantial majority to support changing the status quo.

Lazarus বলেছেন...

The meme earlier in internet history was that Canada was like our little brother, the stable, quiet, responsible one, and Mexico was like our older brother, the impulsive, impetuous one who was always getting into trouble. Canadians cut Mexico out of the picture and see the US as their crazy gun-nut, roid-raging older brother.

planetgo is on the correct path, just not quite there. Annex Canada, Greenland and Cuba. Reestablish Cuba as a premiere resort destination. Send the current residents of the Guantanamo Hilton to upper Nunavut with appropriate clothing and enough food for a couple of years. The weather is way too nice where they are now. No guards.Big money saver. Gently melt some of the glaciers in Greenland and pipe it to Texas, Utah, Nevada and (God forgive me) California. Water to the end of time. Sell to the Japanese and Chinese the 10% of Hawaii they don't already own. Remember we have Cuba and it is a lot closer. No Hawaiian judges. Net gain.

OT a little. If memory serves there were about 100,000 Canadians gathered in Ottawa the day after 9/11. Among other things, they sang The Star Spangled Banner. Still makes me misty thinking of that.

Over 90% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the US border. A great mass of that is clustered right above (and in some places below) the US's Eastern Woke Zone.

California has about 94% of the population of Canada and a bit less than twice its GDP. Florida has a little over half of Canada’s population and about 80% of Canada’s GDP.

OK, ceowens, I'll see you and up the ante. I think we should go for all of North America and Central America down to the Panama Canal. We're already taking in a good portion of the population from Central America and Mexico, and we are spending billions to transport them, feed them, and house them in luxury hotels. This way, we tell them to all go home and get your free money back home (and only if you go home). Immigration problem solved.

ceowens বলেছেন...

The plan as proposed by planetgo receives the ceowens seal of approval with an addendum. I forgot about Quebec. That is a not to be included. There are limits.

Also lets extend a little farther south to include the Darian Gap. Sequester the current Chinese population there and bleed them of their expertise on terrorism and counter-terrorism. Also, the local elevation there is not very high. At the time of the digging of the Panama Canal there were certain limitations that favored the present location. Do we have enough explosives currently to blast a sea level fissure between the two great oceans? Would it cause the earth's axis to tilt? So many questions!!

DJT doing the humiliation thing again. For the misinformed goofs: understand that Trump knows perfectly well who Justin Trudeau is and what Canada is.(i.e. Canada's largest trading partner). This is Mr Trump's way of saying "do it my way Canadians or get tariffs" and which is something a prime minister who's down to 34% in the polls doesn't really like to hear. This is another kind of Ross Perot's "great sucking sound".

We’re collectively rich and diverse enough to afford a 4th down. And we don’t play metric football. Don’t make me break out the map of the countries that use the metric system vs countries that have put a man on the moon.

And the last Canadian team to win the Stanley cup was over 3 decades ago. The latest winners were from Florida where all of the snow is imported and ice found only in drinks.

Going to the moon isn’t going to help much if you need four downs to go ten yards, know what I’m saying? You already shrunk the field and nearly eliminated the ends zones so what’s the point? Lawn bowling delivers more excitement. On top of an exciting offensive game, we have real beer at our football games too!
