Golden Globe nominations are out.

 See the list at People.com.

I don't care other than that "A Complete Unknown" is thought to be good. It's nominated as best drama motion picture and Timothée Chalamet is nominated as best male actor in a drama (in the role of Bob Dylan) and Edward Norton is nominated as best male actor in a supporting role in a drama (playing Pete Seeger).

Tim will need to compete with the actor who plays Donald Trump in "The Apprentice," and Ed will need to compete with Jeremy Strong, who plays Roy Cohn in "The Apprentice."

And I love seeing that Pamela Anderson is in the running for best "female actor" in a drama. She's got to compete with Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Tilda Swinton, Kate Winslet — all famously great at acting in big dramas. You've got to root for the underdog there, but then there's one more nominee, Fernanda Torres for something called "I’m Still Here." I don't know anything about that, so... whatever... Pam or Fernanda. But I will watch Angelina Jolie in "Maria," because it's already on Netflix, starting Wednesday. That probably suggests it's not that good, but it costs nothing in time/money to take a look.

Netflix costs $192 a year.

Oh, and Pamela Anderson is going to win. How do I know this? The media has been prepping for months, showing her without makeup. So brave.

They're doing to movies what they did to video games and eliminating the pretty women.

"Netflix costs $192 a year."

So if I have Netflix, the more things I watch the less I am paying per program. It's a plus, therefore, not a minus.

You seem to care quite a bit.

Dixcus বলেছেন...

That is a way of looking at it. There are other ways also.

I’m glad care about this stuff so I don’t have to. Somehow, the sun will rise and set regardless of the outcome.

Kay বলেছেন...

This list seems to suggest that they’re making a lot less movies every year.

"I'm Still Her" = "I'm Still Here"?

Edward Norton as Pete Seeger? I did not see that coming. Actors even younger than I am are entering the "old as the hills" category that I've come to associate with Pete Seeger. I suppose it's acting, but it's still a little disconcerting.

I do not love Timothée Chalamet. Yes, his dad is French, but the name is still pretentious, and he seems like a punk -- and he's getting massive publicity now that he doesn't seem to deserve. Is he a better Bob Dylan than Cate Blanchett? Remains to be seen.

Pamela Anderson.. Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Tilda Swinton, Kate Winslet —

what the average age of these? I'm guessing 55?
turns out, i was wrong..
57+49+57+49/4 = 53

I'm sure to the Althouse readership, that will seem "young"
but to the actual world, i think the response will be: Movies? what were Those?

gilbar বলেছেন...

i guess it could be worse, they could have picked Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot

""I'm Still Her" = "I'm Still Here"?"

LOL

You're right

You can see why I would think "I'm Still Her" could be the name of a movie. I kind of like that.

Will correct

That's $16 a month. For me, one month out of a year is sufficient for any streaming service.

I think it would be great fun if Pamela Anderson wins. She won a Golden Raspberry in 1997 for Worst New Star, for the movie "Barb Wire." Her boobs were also nominated for Worst Screen Couple, but they lost that award to Demi Moore and Burt Reynolds in "Striptease."

I pretty much never watch Golden Globe or Oscar nominees on purpose (that is to say, when I see them it's accidental, more than that I actively avoid them), but I used to have quite a crush on Sebastian Stan, so maybe I'll see The Apprentice one of these days.

Last year, there was actually some interest in the film awards because "Oppenheimer" and "Barbie" were released in the summer, well in advance of the nominations. This year it's back to usual and most people haven't seen the nominated films and won't have seen them when the awards are presented. I saw Part Two of "Dune." It wasn't really award material. I also saw enough of "Kinds of Kindness" to know that it wasn't for me but none of the other nominees.

He was somebody in "Gossip Girl" but I never figured out who. He seems like another British import, but actually he is Romanian. He doesn't look very Trumpian.

It is amazing that all the actress nominees are so old. I always figured that once an actress reached 45 she aged out.

Since Ricky Gervais is no longer hosting there really is no reason to watch the ceremony.

After reviewing this list, I can officially count myself as a non-cinephile. I have only seen three of these movies/shows, and other than the over-advertised ‘Wicked’, I don’t recognize the others.

I saw ‘The Wild Robot’ with my grandson, and also watched Shogun using my daughter’s Netflix account. The only movie on the list that I myself ventured to the theater for was ‘Dune - Pt.2’.

And I still roll my eyes at the politically correct ‘female actor’. Gee - do we have a word for ‘female actor’ in the English language? Why yes, the word ‘actress’ is a perfectly cromulent word to represent this entity. Can someone explain the offense in using this word? They are identical in meaning (in fact, one is the definition of the other).

It used to be that male movie stars looked like actual grown men.

I thought the Globes had been finally buried as fraudulent fakery.

I looked through the lists. Most of the movies I never heard of, and of those that I've heard of, most I would actively avoid. I think I might want to see Wicked when it streams. I suppose non binary people have their problems, but I'm not that eager to see dramatizations of their lives. ....I did see Dune, I and II. Pretty good movie. The CGI upstaged the actors, but Chalamet was credible enough as the young savior of humanity. Still, this was a role that James Deen was born to play and I look forward to the remake in twenty years when his hologram can appear in the role and my hologram can watch it.

I find Chalamet to be very boring.

rastajenk বলেছেন...

It could be worse: they could be non-transgender women role-players.

rastajenk বলেছেন...

I didn't see a single reference to Reagan.

Speak for yourself, Bub. Just because you're 70 years old, doesn't mean we all are.

We know the Globes aren't the Hollywood Foreign Press Association anymore, right?
