"If you’re not prepared to be sent to a federal prison as a political prisoner, then you’re not worthy to be in this movement, and to step forward and try to save your country."

"You have to understand: they want to put you in prison and they will put you in prison. If you can’t accept that, then you don’t know what they represent. They talk about President Trump, 'He’s gonna do this, he’s gonna do this,' look at what they’ve done."

Said Steve Bannon, quoted in "Steve Bannon’s First Show Out of Jail Should Be a Huge Warning/Steve Bannon is back—and more dangerous than ever" (TNR)(noting that Bannon "failed to elucidate" that "he broke the law").

I will take TNR's bleating seriously when Eric Holder and Merrick Garland also go to prison. They both performed the same offense.

"(noting that Bannon "failed to elucidate" that "he broke the law")."

Something Eric Holder and his allies have also "failed to elucidate".

Mary Beth said...

What TNR failed to elucidate was that people in the Obama administration also ignored subpoenas and did not go to prison.

Trump’s psychosis is so exhausting. His enablers who know better are just as bad.

Trump is setting the table for “stop the steal” 2.0

“We caught them CHEATING BIG in Pennsylvania. Must announce and PROSECUTE, NOW! This is a CRIMINAL VIOLATION OF THE LAW. STOP VOTER FRAUD! CHECK OUT KAMALA’S NEW SLEAZEBAG LAWYER. WE ARE ON THEM ALL THIS TIME! Who would have ever thought that our Country is so CORRUPT?” ~ @realDonaldTrump

Translation: Trump campaign internal numbers show him losing badly.

Bannon refused to obey a subpeona and refused to hand over some documents. Seems to me Hillary and her minions did exactly the same thing when they destroyed cell phones and hard drives that were under subpeona. Plus, Hillary and her staff didn't have to ignore a subpeona to testify because the FBI allowed them to testify with immunity and they didn't even have to be sworn in. This is from memory so forgive me if I'm off in some of the details. The bottom line is we have a two tiered system of "just us" meaning if you look at who is going to jail for political crimes it's Just Us on the right.

Prison!?! Lol, I liked Patton's take better - “Nobody ever won a war by dying for his country. We win wars by getting the other son of a bitch to die for his country!”

We're in a cold civil war. Everyone else can go to jail or die for their country, I'm willing to kill for mine.

Aggie said...

The 'law' that you speak of is on slippery ground. It has been demonstrated that the 'law' can be favorably treated, even preferentially prosecuted - or ignored, as a matter of vested power & authority. Are you comfortable under this aegis, or just comfortably 'careful' - as long as that white-hot light ain't shinin' on you?

I thought Bannon's best defense was that the Committee didn't have 13 members and a Ranking Member from the GOP. This was that fake committee with Liz Cheney on it.

Circuit Court opinion, "Bannon also raised several procedural objections to the subpoena: that the Select Committee lacked the thirteen
members and ranking minority member required by House
Resolution 503, and that he should have received a copy of
House Rule 3(b) (describing committee deposition authority)
with the subpoena. These objections suffer from a common
defect: Bannon did not raise them before the Select Committee
and therefore forfeited them.

It is undisputed that the first time Bannon raised these
arguments was in district court, long after his deadline for
responding to the subpoena had passed. Bannon Br. 54–56. A
witness cannot defend against a contempt of Congress charge
based on an affirmative defense that they were able, but failed,
to raise at the time they were ordered to produce documents or
appear. Helen Bryan, 339 U.S. at 332–35"

So, it was his lawyer's fault. I'm sure Althouse taught her students one has to raise all defenses in the trial court or, in this case, before Congress.

But this opinion is suspect as it recites that several LEO "died after" the riot.

The DC judiciary is very partisan. Julie Kelly has covered the corruption. Many Dem hacks starting with Chutkin.

(noting that Bannon "failed to elucidate" that "he broke the law") - But the law is selectively applied. Eric Holder was held in contempt. Nothing. Hunter Biden even showed up at the Capitol, but refused to testify - again nothing. Merrick Garland was held in contempt of congress - nothing.

But if you defied Liz Cheney's bullshit J6 propaganda committee like Bannon and Navarro, you went to jail.

(noting that Bannon "failed to elucidate" that "he broke the law") - and if the statute of limitations ran out and the want to go after you...they change it. People in the Center and on the Right, don't want to face facts. The Democrats and the liberal/left believe in a two tier justice systems. When they have power, then people they don't like go to jail for lying to congress, lying to the IG, and for contempt of congress. People they DO like, don't. And even if the people they like get charged, a DC jury full of Democrats wont convict them.

The liberal/left in general, and the vast majority of Democrats do NOT believe in the rule of law or equal justice under the law. They believe in using "lawfare" to destroy people they don't like. If you want to keep singing Kumbaya, and muttering about how "We need to unite the country" - you need to face reality.

RCOCEAN II said...

The Big weakness of conservatives and the "The Right" is don't want to face reality. Their response to every example of "Lawfare" from the liberal left is to point out in 3 page memo how "blah, blah this is unfair" "blah, blah, the Democrats are hypocrites" "Blah, blah, under DoJ rules..."

They don't care, dude.

The Turley and NR Andy McCarthy attitude of "oh, its just a few bad apples" or "Oh, Someone has TDS" is bullshit. The liberal/left has changed its attitude toward civil liberties, the rule of law, equal justice, and freedom of speech. Its now, "Just win, baby. Just win". The 3 SCOTUS justices vote as bloc and favor the liberal/left/Democrat position 95 percent of the time. Its about pure naked judicial power. Not the consitution. that's a dead letter to the liberal/left.

I have no doubt that Bannon acted as a patriot when he committed the acts for which he was imprisoned. Fortunately for him, he wasn't hanged. But he was lawfully convicted, as far as I can tell. And he may be convicted and imprisoned again for other acts. It's not a game we are playing. If the Democrat Establishment is bad enough for "us" to break the law to oppose it, then it is bad enough to punish us for our actions. Franklin knew what he was risking, and so should we, if we follow in his footsteps.
But NOT if it's "just politics".

Bannon was a movie producer. In some ways, he's not that different from other pictures people who get tangled up in politics. He's too dramatic and too emotional -- or dramatic and emotional in the wrong ways and about the wrong things.

Tina Trent said...

Of course he should not have gone to prison.

But ask yourself why, three days from the election, Bannon is urging political violence again, not urging getting out the vote. The guy has been a fraud for a long time. He lost us two GOP Georgia Senators, one very courageous on free speech, one deadwood but still a reliable vote. His radio program was a demoralization campaign against Republicans and thus Trump. Every day, he suggested that if you vote, the Democrats would steal your vote. He intentionally suppressed the Georgia Republican turnout using fear tactics.
