If you want to get up to speed on the official Nutter Butter page on TikTok...

... you can click on videos at the cookie's account — here — or you can read the NYT article "Nutter Butter, Are You Good? An Investigation. The cookie sandwich brand’s videos — funny, disturbing, fever-dreamlike — rack up tens of millions of views. The secret is lots of lore without much sense, the campaign’s strategists explain."

The NYT interviews the ad artists:
Nutter Butters with human tongues and teeth; dancing Nutter Butters overlaid on cats and bicycles; fresh shrimp on top of a Nutter Butter. How do you guys come up with this stuff?

AMATANGELO It’s very with the gut. There’s not a lot of planning. That’s where we get the best result. There’s not white pages of concepts and story boards and going frame by frame. Because then you lose the lure and the magic that sparked that idea to begin with.

POCZEKAJ Where it starts is we’re just looking at the comments from the previous week and trying to identify: Are people responding to this specific character in the “Nutterverse”? Which is what we call it. We really study those comments, because we want to put it back into the content that week.

I like this. For 3 reasons:

1. I like the idea of the "Nutterverse." It may be helpful to think of our predicament that way: We're in the Nutterverse.

2. The crazy visual/auditory effects correspond to the insanity of eating packaged cookies. It is actually a sort of truth in advertising. You shouldn't be eating that crap.

3. I'm enjoying the nostalgia. It feels like a throwback to the 1970s, when adfolk were celebrated for borrowing imagery from the drug culture. I'm thinking... Screaming Yellow Zonkers:

This is a reconstructed post. I accidentally wrote over it. It wasn't in the Wayback Machine, so I had to reconstruct it from memory. I was really surprised to find it there... of all places.

Now the worst part about this screw up is that the previous post, which is on an unusually serious topic (abortion, sexual violence) has a URL that's about Nutter Butters.

That's life, here in the Nutterverse.

Looks like a lot of censorship taking place in the 10/6/2024 posts.

And coincidentally it appears that all of the posts removed were of the anti-bone spurs variety.

I remember when you used to be able to buy Planters peanut bars, a candy that wasn't quite so manifestly bad for you. Sugar, but protein.

That we always have Nutter Butters in the pantry is proof positive my wife wants me dead.

Have another Nutter Butter peanut butter sandwich cookie.

Those sad, little brain cells are locked up for good.

I think those seventeen male porn stars are already living in the Nutterverse.

If it says that it’s self-censorship.

Most likely just someone editing or accidentally double posting

Weirdly, I like the one where it's a Nutter Butter crime scene.

I do not like the LSD ones. Annoying!

Notice Tik-Tok has a web platform, as does Google's competitive "Shorts" web platform.

As I've argued, content-neutral regulation of phone app software (just like malware) installed on people's phones does not necessarily infringe on free speech if you still have access to posting content on the web.

Those video ads are really wild, but when you think about it - there is absolutely no purchase to be found, for venting a grievance. The ad men have come up with a clever solution to avoid the rage culture: Be 'out there' crazy. Heinz, take note - next time, animate the noodles and make the sauce iridescent. Bonus points if you bring back Max Headroom.

About 5 of my posts were removed and I did not remove any. I don't believe that you deleted them but its quite a coinky dink that many posts were "self -censored" and almost all were by anti-Trump commentators.
Does anyone besides you have the ability to remove posts?

Nutter Butters with a cat chaser!

Signs and wonders, Mutt. The Universe performed a service.

Is it just me our is this all part of the marketing campaign? All of a sudden I start seeing content about how "crazy" the Nutter Butter ads are and I can't help but think all of the people asking (totally spontaneously) all at the same time "hey isn't this crazy you should go look at these crazy ads and see what I mean" is itself part of the marketing campaign.

So much for the Know Nothing phony outrage about censorship.

The text of advertising is "Like this". The subtext is "Buy this". The message is "You are an idiot".
Some people apparently find that congenial.

Well, that’s different from removed by the author. So I don’t know why you brought up the issue of things that were removed by the author. But if five of your comments disappeared, it’s one of two things. Either you got caught by the spam filter, in which case I would’ve released it by now, probably. Or your comments got lost when I accidentally wrote over the post as I’ve described in several comments here. That’s an unusual occurrence and I’m sorry about any comments that got lost. It was a big hassle for me to re-create the post, but I had no way to recreate the comments

No freebie NYT article for the Nutter Butter. Only propaganda redistribution…🙁

I’m just realising ALDIs has a ripoff version with nearly identical packaging down to the colours and the typesetting.

I was going to say ALDIs has it and give everyone “misinformation”.

He's referring to yesterday's 'Sunrise' thread. A series of Mutaman's and DINKY DAU's posts have been removed and are showing ""This comment has been removed by the author"", while the subsequent 'Reply' posts are still up. Later posts by Mutaman are still there. It happened over about 4 hours.

If they say they didn't delete their own posts, then the concern is, 'who did?' It's being pointed out for blog integrity (in case it was hacked), which we all want to preserve as an important and overriding objective.
