"When will the press tell us that Democrats 'assert, without evidence,' that Biden has withdrawn?"

Glenn Reynolds quips darkly, linking to something I wrote earlier this morning.

ADDED: Speaking of evidence, Kamala Harris is a first hand witness:

"I am first hand witness that everyday, our president, Joe Biden, fights for the American people, and we are deeply, deeply grateful for his service to the nation."

She is quoted in "Harris: ‘We are deeply grateful’ for Biden’s service/Harris spoke on the South Lawn of the White House for a celebration of NCAA championship teams, filling in for Biden as he recovers from Covid" (Politico).

So she's filling in for him and simultaneously attesting to his daily work, his "fight" for us. The last time we saw him, he was fighting to keep his place as the nominee. KH is a "first hand witness," that is, we're stuck with hearsay.

I have a tag for the word "deeply," and she just said it twice in a row. She must really mean it.

AND: Here's the original post where "deeply" became a tag: "Deeply... it's such a poser word." That's from 2014. There, I made a list of earlier examples of the use of "deeply" in the blog archive. And look what's #1 on the list!

1. "Beauty is a system of power, deeply rooted, preceding all others, richly rewarded," wrote Garace Franke-Ruta, explaining "Why Obama's 'Best-Looking Attorney General' Comment Was a Gaffe."

Obama's 'Best-Looking Attorney General' was, of course, Kamala Harris.

See, Dems don't do shame. Nor contrition. After years of sharp-as-a-tack gaslighting, they effortlessly switch to a new lie. Kamal learned from the best. Here, KH she is not a "first hand" witness, and what she claimed to witness doesn't happen "every day." Dem BS has no consequences.

Okay, it makes sense for Biden to not want a lot of public attention immediately after depantsing himself. But to go two days without a personal statement?

Under Justice Department "rules" (which they can break, conveniently, but you can't) the Office of Pardon Attorney must mail warrants of pardon to recipients who get one to notify them of their grant of clemency.

However no law requires that the pardon be published anywhere.

So yes, Joe Biden has secretly pardoned Hunter Biden. And you won't find out about it in time for it to be meaningfully challenged or be politically detracting.

Yeah, it is perfectly normal for the President of the United States to elect to not run for re-election, despite being adamant that he was running for a second term just a couple of days ago, via an X post and then not making a public appearance to confirm it. You do realize this is how we hear about leaders stepping down in banana republics, right?

If that makes critics look batty, then we are living in an insane world. This is basic stuff here. Then again, this is the Biden administration where basic stuff is far beyond their capabilities.

Embrace the insanity is surely a take.

It is interesting that with speculation running across the interwebs about the Biden resignation from the candidacy that there is no clarifying communication.

three possibilities I can think of, but I am pretty much a linear thinker, so there may be other options.

1) The Bidens (some of all three) have not fully bought into the plan and are fighting it, so they care in seclusion by other powers that can control access.
2) Biden has not been coherent enough to speak and so they have to wait it out a bit longer (or he is dead and they are building their media plan)
3) They see all of this and want the right to get out over their skis before they prove it was all conspiracy theory and Biden is perfectly fine, thank you very much.)

I think it is #2. Probably not dead, but they need to diminish the negative effects of his appearance so that they do not have a stronger push to have him resign the Presidency too.

More conspiracy theorizing from the concern trolls.

When the President and presumptive nominee for the next term suddenly ends his reelection campaign - and I mean suddenly, as in mere hours after defiantly stating he's not going anywhere, but by the way does not resign the presidency, and that announcement is made only over social media in writing (I'll good over the signature thing because I don't know if it's true), and his doctors say that his COVID symptoms are improving but no one has even taken a still picture of him much less a video since he began to "self-isolate," don't you think it's reasonable to ask to see him?

Not to disturb him - I'm not saying he should move up the "big speech" to which Left Bank refers - but even a still picture would be better than the "he's doing better, not well yet, but better, and by the way, he's still entirely competent to be president but he's just not feeling like saying anything right now, so everyone just be patient, 'kay?"

We are being told that we have a head of state who is not only capable of doing his job but is in fact doing his job at this moment, even while recovering from COVID that was initially described as giving him mild symptoms. (My first of two bouts of COVID, which was very mild and symptoms of which lasted only about 36 hours, was marked by crushing, early-pregnancy-like fatigue for that first day, so I'm not downplaying even mild symptoms.) But we all know that for at least 90 minutes three weeks ago, he was manifestly unable to do his job. Why is it unreasonable to want proof that he's not in the throes of another debilitating episode?

There is one reason not to do that: national security. And that's why we do have the temporary handoff provision. Is Harris acting CinC right now? If she is, is that information supposed to be public knowledge? I honestly don't know - but if making it public knowledge would also be a national security risk, then shouldn't this year's voters be allowed to know that?

This says it is illegal to make "any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict great bodily harm upon the president of the United States". So I don't think it applies here.

Nevertheless, what the NYPost reports is certainly highly unethical. If those threatening to apply the 25th consider him to be currently unfit then they are obliged to vote to remove him ASAP. If they think he is fit to continue as president then threatening to apply the 25th anyway is abhorable.

The Biden family (sources) are saying that Biden was threatened. And that he was coerced into signing that document and that the attempted coup has been ongoing for "weeks."

This is an ASTOUNDING piece of journalism. Presumably, the Biden family source knows the name of the perpetrators of this heinous treason. One would hope The NY Post would have the ethics to print those names and seek comment on the accusations being made by the Biden family.

Put aside all the other crazy stuff that has come out about how well spotted the shooter was and how many shots he got off.

All audio communications from that day was recorded and is now no longer available, per director of SS congressional testimony.

Biden withdraws from the election through a printed statement published to X/Twitter and makes no appearances to validate - all blamed on COVID. Neither he nor Jill make any public appearances and all meetings are cancelled.

Kamala is suddenly the new Democratic lead and is speaking from the White House as the official voice - as if she's assumed the role of President.

I've never seen or heard anything like this in our nation's history. The confluence of those events, back to back, without true stability or reassurance from executive leadership, is staggering. And I don't think it's done.

@Inga,

Your problem is that you believe to the core of your being that "Oh, my side would never do something like that". Well, you need to review just how many hoaxes and conspiracies "your side" has peddled to the American public from 2016 on, not like from QAnon or Alex Jones, but involving players in the highest positions of power in the government.

The same people who peddled those conspiracies to protect their power are looking at their worst nightmare coming true, i.e. a new and re-energized Trump administration. If you think they are going to see themselves lose power because one demented old Irish-American coot won't get out of the way, you are being criminally naive.

The NYT, as of 13:30: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/07/22/us/politics/kamala-harris-democrats-endorsement-list.html
"Most Democrats were quick to issue statements commending Mr. Biden for his years of service after he announced he was dropping his re-election bid. Many offered their support for Ms. Harris to be the party’s nominee, though several key leaders did not immediately back her."

215 publicly supported Ms. Harris: 16 governors, 36 senators, 163 representatives

57 issued statements but did not specify support for Ms. Harris: 7 governors, 10 senators, 40 representatives

10 have not commented: 1 senators, 9 representatives

Pelosi, Newsome, Shapiro have endorsed while thus declaring they're not challenging her. Bill and Hillary have endorsed, Pritzker, Whitmer too. Father and son Soros, too.

Obama has not endorsed.

Still battling, then. I wonder if Obama has been given the old heave-ho, with the Democratic Party Old Guard seizing back control of the palace? Starting to look like it.

You know, I've always thought Biden was creepy, dim, venal... but he is still the President of the United States, the country of which I'm a citizen. That makes him my president, whether I like him or not. (I know this doesn't apply to some Democrats because Trump is just different, just as W was different, Reagan was different, Nixon was different... Even Bush the Elder was different.)

And I care very much about my country, and have to wonder what's going on in certain minds overseas right now. Don't you?

Gospace said...

There are two good reasons to believe Biden isn't dead.1. The secret service. The agents on the ground might - and do - hide embarrassing things that go on. Covering up a death, even for a moment, would be beyond the pale for any of them.

Reason 2 is also the reason he's not fully incapacitated or unconscious.
2. The football carrier is with him, not Kamala. If the football carriers start appearing at Kamala's side without an announcement it's time to start demanding answers.

“No, States Would Not Be Forced to Keep Biden on the Ballot If He’s Not the Democratic Party’s Nominee from the DNC”

Did you read the goddamn article you linked? Here's the link.

All the court rulings it discusses are about the seating of delegates not putting candidates on the ballot! Why would any state allow the national party to disenfranchise its voters at whim? Isn't this why reformers in American politics railed against candidates getting chosen and elected in "smoke filled rooms"? State laws control who gets to be on their ballots, and yanking candidates off after their voters elected them in the primaries really does give off a bad odor.

Buuuut, from historical precedent, you know how delegates get released? When the candidate dies, just like when assassinated Robert Kennedy's delegates got released to vote for Hubert Humphrey in the 1968 Chicago convention.

Inga has long had the habit of just reading headlines which are routinely contradictory to the actual content in the article. When she does post article content, its invariably things she doesnt understand and that's why she gets so crossed up.

Worst part: after its pointed out to her how moronic her understanding of the article happens to be, she'll still internalize and believe her earlier misunderstanding. This leads to later hilarious results.

For instance, long after the russian collusion hoax was fully and completely exposed with al the key corrupted players identified, Inga was still linking to articles from 2 to 3 years earlier when there was less known and her lefty pals were using leaks and conjecture to advance the hoax!

There was an instance in 2020 where she linked back to an early 2017 article!

“I have been seeing stories like this and this citing to a Heritage memo saying that in some states it would be hard for Democrats to list someone other than Biden on the ballot if Democrats nominate someone else at the Democratic National Convention. I don’t put any credence into it. Joe Biden is not the party’s nominee now, and states generally point to the major party’s nominee as the one whose name is on the ballot.

For example, the memo, embedded here, cites to a provision of Wisconsin law 8.35(1) about replacing nominees when they withdraw from office after nomination. But Biden has not yet been nominated. And there’s a specific rule for presidential nominees set forth in 8.16(7):

Nominees chosen at a national convention and under s. 8.18 (2) by each party entitled to a partisan primary ballot shall be the party’s candidates for president, vice president and presidential electors. The state or national chairperson of each such party shall certify the names of the party’s nominees for president and vice president to the commission no later than 5 p.m. on the first Tuesday in September preceding a presidential election. Each name shall be in one of the formats authorized in s. 7.08 (2) (a).

And in the unlikely event that a state law would make Biden be forced to be listed on the ballot (I’m not even sure how that could be), then I expect litigation would place the actual nominee of the party on the ballot. Voters should have the right to vote for the party’s candidate, and there are cases that affirm this principle that go back a while.”

Experts: Delegates Free to Pick Democratic Nominee

“Election law experts say House Speaker Mike Johnson is wrong when he says it is “unlawful” for Democrats to “simply just switch out a candidate who has been chosen through the … democratic process.”

Although President Joe Biden was chosen by the vast majority of primary and caucus voters, and amassed more than 99% of the pledged delegates who will meet at the Democratic National Convention in mid-August, he has not been formally nominated. And since he has voluntarily dropped out of the race, delegates pledged to him are no longer obligated to vote for him and can vote for someone else, experts told us.”

Inga said...

“Election law experts said Johnson is incorrect.

“First of all, the Democratic Party is not ‘replacing or switch[ing] out’ its nominee,” Edward B. Foley, the director of the election law program at Ohio State University, told us via email. “Biden was never the official nominee, only the presumptive nominee. The nominee is chosen by the delegates to the convention, either at the convention or in a virtual roll call beforehand, neither of which has occurred yet.

“Moreover, political parties have the constitutional right to determine the procedure by which they select their nominees, as repeatedly confirmed by the Supreme Court,” Foley said, citing the Supreme Court cases Democratic Party of United States v. Wisconsin ex rel. La Follette and California Democratic Party v. Jones.”

I think Inga is right on the law. Would be very happy to see her proved wrong, but I don't think she is.

YoungHegelian, strictly speaking, the candidates themselves are NOT on any state ballot. Our votes are cast for electors who have publicly declared their intention to vote for a specific candidate at the Electoral College in December. Nothing in the Constitution obligates them to do so. Some states have "faithless elector" laws that force them to vote for their pledged candidate, but they are of highly doubtful constitutionality, and even if such laws were enforced and the faithless electors were punished by their home states, their votes in the Electoral College would be valid just as they cast them.

Ballot access experts say Republican threats to sue over Biden's withdrawal are 'ridiculous' and 'frivolous'

‘WASHINGTON (AP) — Even before President Joe Biden’s long-speculated withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, allies of former President Donald Trump floated the possibility of suing to block Democrats from having anyone other than Biden on the ballot in November.

But election administration and legal experts said the timing of Biden’s exit on July 21 makes it unlikely that any Republican ballot access challenges will succeed, with some calling the idea “ridiculous” and “frivolous.” Democrats are on safe legal ground as they identify a new standard-bearer, they say, because the party hasn’t officially chosen its nominee. That typically occurs with a vote of delegates at the party’s convention.”

Walter Kirn points out the timeline that foreigners are seeing:

Donald Trump loses court cases in NYC and is fined hundreds of millions
Then: The Supreme Court issues its immunity decision, and most of the lawfare cases dissolve.
Then: Judge Cannon dismisses the Trump Documents case and bitch-slaps Subway Jack Smith.
Then: The assassination attempt misses.
Then: Trump quickly selects J.D. Vance, the non-establishment, non Deep State candidate and seals up the Republican nomination at a well-run, low chaos convention.
Then: Suddenly Joe Biden gets ill with COVID and isolates.
Then: A letter is issued stating that he resigns, with very little verifying information, no pictures of Joe, no video, no statement.
Then: It's off to the races with Kamala !

Kirn thinks it's not at all unimaginable that a foreign crisis could erupt (all by itself, ha ha) and suddenly the steady hand of an old expert, say, a former Secretary of State, might just step up and save the day for all of her adoring fans.

Or: The Kamala candidacy will get the full-blown Hollywood treatment with all the accoutrements of modern reality TV, perfectly produced and relentlessly filling the airwaves for the next 3 months.

Kirn says, wryly, that all of the information streams in today's media are compromised and lacking integrity - nothing can be believed now. There are no reliable sources left.

Myself, I'd just go with MORON.

No CIA/FBI worthy of its name would use such an obvious FLAKE as a mouthpiece.

Oh wait...we did have Cook, and now we have Dixcus.....

Hmmmmm....

They wouldn't consider using someone like that to troll blogger posts because he is below their standards.

But they would use Joe Biden or Kamala Harris as president/vice president?

LOL

That's it? A momentary lapse where the context is the panel is discussing the lower working class white male at that time, outlook/values and how much things have changed and Kirn momentarily confuses Ralph Cramden's character's job with Archie Bunker but it gets quickly corrected?!!

That's it?!

And then you think you can reverse field on Glenn Reynolds and make an assertion without appropriate proof and toss the negative back onto someone challenging you?

No wonder you lie so much!

That's not how this works tiger/tigress/tig-xer.

And "breaking your rule?". LOL

I spend all day and much of many nights working my "real jobs" as well as non-profit support. I'm sorry if my productivity, flexibility and nimbleness flummoxes and confuses you.

Posting "stuff" at Althouse blog, at all hours in rapid bursts and depending upon work related deadlines (like this one) is a welcome distraction and the easiest thing in the world for me to do...particularly when it comes to immediately recognizing your BS and calling it out...which itself could be a fulltime job given the volume of mendacious mutterings you manage to put out!

The New Soviet Democraticals are just like their "intellectual" forebears (LOL) of the 1930's who danced on a string to whatever their leftist/marxist/communist masters told them to do.

You know the type. Sort of Barbra Streisand's early character in The Way We Were. These lefties would protest in support of "A" and vehemently, violently against "B"...right up until the second they were told "A" was now bad and "B" was the way to go. Full Animal Farm. A good example was after the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact the commie-directed morons protested daily for the US to "Stay Out Of Europe's War!"...but then Hitler turned his panzers east and voila! Turn in your old signs and pick up the new ones: "Second Front Now!". In the Way We Were, it was all about "Ban The Bomb!"....but only the western bombs, never, ever the russki or chicom bombs. In 1979, the russkis seeing Carter's weakness moved intermediate tactical nukes into Eastern Europe without nary a complaint from the lefties. But when Reagan responded by moving tactical nukes into western europe the russkis ordered their voice-actuated lefties to protest everywhere...and their army of Ingas and Mutamans et al fell right into line.

The Biden / Kamala thing, just like everything else for these voice-actuated automatons, is precisely the same, which Yancey captures above very well.

The New Soviet Democratical Party leadership know their base very, very, very well. They know they can shove whatever they want down the throats of these cats and the cats will smile and do as they are told.

"A": Biden is the greatest! He is so very sharp! He's Dark Brandon and he's unstoppable! Trump is scared! NPCs: Hooray! We believe!

Next Day "B": Biden can't possibly continue! He's too sick! It's not his fault! It's really all about Kamala, who is the greatest! She is so very sharp! She is unstoppable! Trump is scared! NPC: Hooray! We believe!

Apparently, Trump is afraid to debate Harris.

If Trump wasn't afraid to debate Ted Cruz than he sure as hell isn't afraid to debate a lightweight like Kamala. She will break out in cackles because of HER nerves, and the country will see what a laughing hyena in human form sounds like.

"Last I heard of Reynolds was the day before Osama bin Laden was killed."

I remember when OBL was killed. Joe Biden was the only voice in the war room saying, "Don't do it Barack".

So did you quit "hearing" all the Biden sycophants at the same time?

Funny....Hunter's next scheduled court appearance is in 3 days, and AFAIK it's still on.

If he shows up, that would mean he's still being tried.

UNLESS he tells the judge in open court that Daddy has washed away his sins, past, present and future.

And that would be made public in the court's dismissal of the charges.

As Trump says,"We'll see what happens."

No. Not in the context of the discussion the panel was having regarding lower middle class working white men depicted in early TV shows and how they compare with our society today.

I'm sorry that was a degree of subtlety quite beyond your ken.

Better luck next time tiger. I wish you well.
