The impassive Kimberly Cheatle is getting raked over the coals.

Why did the Secret Service not station an agent on the warehouse roof that the gunman used as a sniper’s perch?...
Ms. Cheatle seemed to indicate that the Secret Service had left the rooftop unmanned on purpose, because, she said, the agency preferred “sterile” — presumably meaning empty — rooftops. Instead, she said, the warehouse rooftop was to receive “overwatch” — meaning law enforcement officers were supposed to watch that rooftop from another, higher perch.
How many Secret Service agents were assigned to protect President Trump in Butler, Pa.?...
Who decided that the warehouse roof should be outside the Secret Service’s security perimeter for Mr. Trump’s rally?...

Why did the Secret Service allow former President Trump to take the stage, despite people in the crowd pointing out a gunman on the warehouse roof?...

How did Mr. Crooks get his rifle up onto the warehouse roof? Did he leave it there before the rally?...

What additional security steps did the Secret Service take after the U.S. learned about a potential Iranian plot to kill Mr. Trump?...
Ms. Cheatle said she thought the security in place at Butler was sufficient to deal with the Iranian threat.

Key questions:

(1) Why was Trump not removed from the stage immediately?
(2) You have said SS "secured" the AGR building from the inside, does that mean that there were sniper positioned on the inside? Were any of those weapons fired? Where are those weapons?
(3) Initially, you told the public "local law enforcement" fire guns. They deny it. Why did you originally claim a third weapon was fired? Do you still believe a third weapon was fired and have you identified that weapon? Who did it belong to?

Key questions:

(1) Why was Trump not removed from the stage immediately?

30 seconds is incompetence. 1 minute is bad comms and incompetence. 30 minutes is conspiracy.

(2) You have said SS "secured" the AGR building from the inside, does that mean that there were sniper positioned on the inside? Were any of those weapons fired? Where are those weapons?

The AGR buildings were originally declared outside the security perimeter and the responsibility of local law enforcement.

Then we find out the SS was inside later. They were clearly watching the shooter move around from the windows.

(3) Initially, you told the public "local law enforcement" fire guns. They deny it. Why did you originally claim a third weapon was fired? Do you still believe a third weapon was fired and have you identified that weapon? Who did it belong to?

The SS obviously lied and tried to pin this on local law enforcement. Local law enforcement has been leaking since the shooting.

The SS is F'd. Nobody is going to put up with the regime crap anymore.

What was the timing on the JD Vance announcement?

According to Tucker and several other sources the GOPe was pushing very hard for Rubio or Scott or Burgham.

Pretty sure they wanted Trump to announce one of those two regime toadies or Burgham before Trump got shot.

I am now very curious about Mr Burgham now. Why was he even mentioned? Who was pushing him as an option?

Only because they failed, barely, but dramatucally. And the incompetence could not be drowned out in a sea of assassination murder porn online and funerals and speeches and denouncements and republican convention chaos.

Instead, they created a mythic moment for their political enemy (Trump) and I suspect they have gone too far to turn back now, despite an Act II being far too obvious...a price they are probably willing to pay considering the alternative possibilities.

If there is a conspiracy, here is what was supposed to happen. The shooter inside (we now know was also Secret Service) the AGR building takes Trump out, the kid with the AR wearing a "Hey Look and What a Crazy Gun Nut I Am T-Shirt" never gets a shot off before the counter sniper on the roof takes him out. Clean. Trump is gone. National AR ban. 🏆

Listen to the audio. Three very calm control shots. Then a delay. Then bullets spray erratically (THOSE were Crooks' bullets when he realizes someone else is shooting).

And we would never know about it...

BUT!

Trump turned his head and the whole ploy when FUBAR.

This is pretty easy to prove just by pointing out they did the same with RFK Jr. and the legislation introduced to strip Trump of his USSS protection. The only one provided full USSS protection is the guy no longer running for office and his endorsed pick to run for as his successor. That's a fact.

Dixcus said...

Key Questions:

1) Why did the anti-sniper team allow the shooter to fire 8 shots before they took him out?
2) How long was the anti-sniper team watching the shooter?
2b) After the shooter fired, how long did your agents KEEP Donald Trump on the stage?
3) How many miles per hour did the SUV carrying an injured Trump drive leaving the scene (2 mph)? They didn't even spin their wheels on the grass/dirt field.
4) Why did the SUV pass the close-by Veterans Hospital and take Trump to a hospital much further away?
5) How many police officers warned your agents that there was a shooter on site?
6) When you knew there was a person on-site with a gun, why was Trump not evacuated?

These questions will NOT BE ASKED. And even if they were asked, they would not be answered.

This is all theater. They were trying to murder Donald Trump and they failed.

1) Have any of the anti-Sniper teams members donated to Joe Biden's campaign?
2) Are their social media feeds being examined for bias?
3) What are their names and political party affiliations?
4) Is the anti-sniper Rules of Engagement to WAIT until AFTER an assassination attempt is made to begin shooting back?
5) Is it policy to hold the principal on a stage with short girls keeping his head exposed?
6) Should the SUV drive away with the principal at 2 miles per hour from an assassination scene, or speed up?

Who was in each of those vehicles.

Suppose President Trump had been seriously injured or had even just not stood up, pumped his fist and acted feisty to show he was OK.

It would have been easy for him to have died on the way to the hospital (if this was a hit, not incompetence) "As he ducked down, he apparently hit his head on the podium. This caused a brain bleed and he died of a stroke on the way to the hospital. We did everything possible to save him. Really. Pinky swearsies."

If he had not actually hit his head, a quick rap with a cosh, would have caused the injury and perhaps some kind of injection to complete the job.

The head of the Secret Service is responsible for ensuring that the agents perform their jobs at least competently. The fact that someone was able to almost put a bullet through Trump's head shows that they did not do their jobs competently. In fact, what we now know shows that they aren't as competent as an infantry 1st LT. Or a SSG for that matter. Determining how to secure a position from incoming fire is a basic task that is taught and trained in the army to relatively low ranking personnel who are required to be able to do so.

The daughter of the NY judge had millions of dollars of graft delivered to her house from top Dem politicians and donors.

Here, the S S director and the Sec of Homeland Security turned down repeated requests for increased security. Her excuse was that he was not yet, formally, the Republican nominee, just a former President, with normal former Presidential security needs. And, on the day of the attempted assassination, Dr Jill had a last minute trip nearby, siphoning off even more agents. Meanwhile, prominent Dems, from almost the top, including a number in Congress, were publicly suggesting assassination of Trump. And we are supposed to believe that the right hand didn’t know what the left hand was doing.

They treat the levers of power the same way that those running banana republics and repressive oligarchs do, except that they have to hide some of what they are doing, for form’s sake. The power is there to be used, and they are using it for their own advantage. If they can jail or kill Trump, eliminating him as an opponent, with that power, and not have too much blood or dirt on their hands, then mission accomplished. They are truly evil people.

I am just going to list undisputed facts:

1. The SS declared that the AGR buildings were outside the security perimeter and that they were the responsibility of Local Law Enforcement.

2. The Secret Service occupied the inside of the AGR buildings.

3. LEO's took pictures of the shooter walking around outside the AGR building in broad daylight.

4. The crowd was yelling about a shooter. More than one SS agent heard the crowd yelling about the shooter.

5. Local LEO's responded to the crowd yelling about the shooter and tried to confront him. SS was aware of this from both outside and inside the AGR building.

6. The Secret Service snipers had eyes on the shooter for several minutes before he shot.

7. The shooter thoroughly reconned the site. He knew where to go and how to get there.

There is only one rational explanation for all of this. this was not an accident. This was not incompetence.

The radio communications were obviously being siloed. There was clearly no global radio channel for all of the team leads to monitor. The Asset protection team was either completely separated from radio comms or the Asset protection team leader was a part of the conspiracy. Trump is not on that stage when a person with a gun has been spotted on a roof before he starts speaking.

She is looking for clear fields of fire or a similar phrase. What she is trying to say is that you want to keep areas clear so agents can be free to engage in that area. This is why these positions are generally set up as close to an L shape as possible.

When you set a private to pull security you have him define his field of fire. We would have them lase it off. We would give them a right and a left boundary. Usually there were friendly units on one side or the other.

The people who set up the security perimeter know where all of the friendly units and civilians will be.

Where is the President of the United States?

Why do so many care about the actions of the counter-sniper team? The only effective response came from the counter-snipers. The question should be, what is there ROE and were they communicating what they were observing. I lived through the Bill Clinton Presidency. I don’t want snipers that fire first. I don’t care if you agree or not, because I see many other events in the kill chain that could have stopped Crooks before the shooting. To me, worrying about counter-snipers is focusing on the last barrier to fail. They are not the root cause.

Leland wonders: "Why do so many care about the actions of the counter-sniper team?"

Because their actions reveal their motive. They LET the assassination attempt occur (that is indisputable by the fact of it) when it is their job to PREVENT assassination attempts.

Letting one occur is willfully illegal and constitutes a conspiracy, regardless of whatever ROE were in place. If the ROE was not to engage until fired upon, then that is evidence of a conspiracy to kill Donald Trump for which people should be prosecuted.

They let it happen. That was a crime. CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE is illegal. As is CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY. Either way, the Secret Service anti-sniper team committed a crime.

And if their ROE is to not shoot before fired upon, that also tells us exactly their motive, why they didn't shoot first, and they were doing their job.

Letting one occur is willfully illegal and constitutes a conspiracy, regardless of whatever ROE were in place. If the ROE was not to engage until fired upon, then that is evidence of a conspiracy to kill Donald Trump for which people should be prosecuted.

That's ridiculous. You also have no idea how to investigate an incident like this. You don't start with the last barrier and say "well there's your problem". It's a meme to do so. Investigators look for root causes. Try just using the 5 Whys technique. You want to suggest CONSPIRACY, then don't start by looking at a singular person.

Why did the counter-sniper team shoot last? We've been told because of the ROE.
Why did the ROE have them shoot second? We've been told to prevent false-positives.
Why was the USSS worried about false-positives? When was the last time USSS accidentally shot anybody?
Why were not other methods used to properly identify the situation as it unfolded? As in why were drones not buzzing around Crooks head?
Why was the USSS not able to secure a perimeter greater than 100m?
Why wasn't the protectee not notified?
Why was Crooks not held in custody after being photographed prone by LOE using a laser range finder?

My more pointed response was moderated out. So I'll be kinder. Exactly why do you think the focus should be on the only part of the USSS team that stopped a mass shooting? Why do you think that makes you seem smart or intelligent?

I'm the one pointing out since the first mention of the shooting that Democrat legislators have been trying to strip Trump of Secret Service protection and denying it to RFK Jr. I mentioned it earlier in this thread. So you are stupid to suggest I'm a Democrat representative worried about where they are vulnerable in terms of culpability. They are vulnerable at the top as to the quality of personnel they deployed, the process in which they secured the location, and the rules of engagement they provided.

You, Dixcus, wants us to focus on the one unit that responded appropriately. Why are you trying to get us to worry about the effective team? Are you a Democrat? Are you in on the conspiracy? That's how silly you look right now.

1. Anyone who owns an AR usually owns almost always owns other guns as well.
2. These other weapons (like say a 30-06) would be a better gun for his mission.
3. A real "gun nut" would not take the wrong gun to his party.

So why is our assassin wearing a T-shirt to promote his bona fides as a gun nut, but not actually behaving like a real gun nut. Why is he carrying the gun the feds want to ban rather than the gun an assassin would typically select? That's the first question. I think I know the answer.

so this has nothing to do with gun control. It was a legal rifle.

Not stopping a guy carrying a deer rifle and a backpack in a security area was the problem. Not placing cops on the roof, and not sending anyone out to find the kid (no service dogs, no drones?) was the problem. Heck, the only ones who took some initiative to find the guy were the local traffic cops, and the experts tried to make them the scapegoats.

1. Yes

2. No. An AR15 with a 16" barrel and M193 55gr ball ammo will generate muzzle velocity of approaching a kilometer/sec. With a 20" barrel 55gr ball will EXCEED 1Km/sec. A 55gr 5.56x45mm round going as near to maximum velocity will make a persons head blow up, not figuratively.

Center-mass training is training provided to produce A) the highest likelihood of serious or fatal damage in conjuction with B) the highest likelihood of producing a hit (aka "shot placement") by increasing the relative size of the target.

A head is a relatively small target to hit, but is almost always fatal. A torso is a larger target, and is mostly fatal. It's about efficacy ratios at different ranges.

Another urban myth. NIJ Level IIIA armor is the highest level of protection afforded by soft-armor (aka 'bullet-proof vest') and is, in conjunction with other levels and 'trauma-plates', the predominant armor police in the USA would wear.

Almost no soft armor I am aware of is capable of defeating rifle threats. For that Level III or Level IV steel, ceramic, composite, etc. hard armors are required.

We will likely never know if Trump was wearing some kind of armor, but it A) would not have saved him unless he had rifle plates front/back/sides and B) is moot because the target was his head.

Sen. Perhaps because a competent shooter would be aware that his chances of survival were damned close to zero. A good shooter would take up a position at least 800 meters (roughly a half mile) away to improve his chances of escape, he’d use a bolt action rifle with at least a match grade barrel (or perhaps a Springfield Armory M1A), and he’d probably have fitted a silencer (even though the bullet would be supersonic). And a true scope, not a red dot sight suitable for a handgun.

I'm interest in the thought process.

Hassayamper said...

AOC asked a really good question that Kim Cheatlady couldn't answer: Why is the Secret Service outdoor perimeter shorter than the range of the most powerful and popular sniper rifle in America?

That's a stupid question, actually. Not that I would expect anything better from that ignorant barmaid.

The AR-15 pattern rifle may be the most popular rifle in America, but it is neither powerful nor a sniper rifle. In many states you can't even go deer hunting with the cartridge it fires, because it is considered too light and underpowered for a reliable clean kill.

The military issues it to soldiers specifically because the cartridges are small and lightweight, allowing more of them to be carried in a ruck. They don't mind its lack of high-powered killing capability and its relatively short effective range, because soldiers in a typical firefight are not shooting at extreme distances, and wounding an opponent is even better than killing him as it ties up other opposing forces to tend to his wounds and carry him behind the lines.

Snipers who are shooting at long range (typically over 500 meters) or extreme long range (over 1000 meters) use a much more powerful cartridge, some of which exceed elephant guns in muzzle energy. Out to 1000 meters or so, they might choose a high-quality, precision AR-10 pattern rifle, which resembles the AR-15 but has a significantly longer semi-automatic action and heavier barrel and other components, allowing it to shoot substantially more capable cartridges such as the 6.5 Creedmor. Or they might use a bolt action rifle that superficially resembles Grandpa's deer rifle from 1950 or so, but with vastly upgraded precision components and optics and flatter-shooting, faster, more powerful modern cartridges

Beyond 1000 meters every sharpshooter is using extremely expensive, sophisticated bolt-action rifles, as well as high-powered optics that frequently cost more than the rifle. The .338 Lapua Magnum often used for this purpose has a 300 grain bullet traveling with 5000 foot-pounds of kinetic energy at the muzzle. The 5.56 mm cartridge of an AR-15 or M-16 is typically using a 62 grain bullet with around 1300 ft-lbs of kinetic energy.

If well-trained, well-equipped snipers ever become a serious threat, the Secret Service perimeters are going to have to be pushed back to a half mile or more.

Drago said...

Did anyone ask if the agent in charge is still in charge--not suspended? Will they keep his name secret longer than Michael Byrd's?

It's very simple. The phrase "the buck stops here" refers to the fact that she believes that her paycheck will continue no matter how poorly she does her job.

That roof DID GET OVERWATCH.

What is "overwatch?" It means that the location was secured by having individuals in a higher location (over) that lower location watching over it to secure it.

And indeed, that occurred. The "overwatch" was provided by a Secret Service anti-sniper team of 2 armed men with sniper rifles, one of whom was a spotter and one a shooter.

Both men had this suspect in their scopes for minutes, and could see that he had an AR-15. The shooter of the team killed the suspect with a direct head shot from 140 yards. But of course, that only happened AFTER he watched the suspect take 8 shots that killed one person, injured two others and of course shot the former President of the United States in the head.

Overwatch! They just watched it happen. One could say they LET it happen and did nothing to prevent the assassination attempt.

Heritage Foundation: Cell phone data connected to Trump shooter's house can be tracked to DC "in the same vicinity of an FBI office" (and more)

Well. That was probably a "fun" and "informative" "visit".

Sometimes in a Congressional hearing--conducted by bloviating congress critters you just have to sit there and take it. See e.g. Brett Kavanaugh. And now Ms. Cheatle is getting the roasting she do richly deserves. I do hope she remembered to put on her asbestos underclothes because some things are going to be said that will burn.

Muffley:

General Turgidson, I find this very difficult to understand. I was under the impression that I was the only one in authority to order the use of nuclear weapons.

Turgidson:

That's right sir. You are the only person authorized to do so. And although I hate to judge before all the facts are in, it's beginning to look like General Ripper exceeded his authority....

Muffley:

There's nothing to figure out General Turgidson. This man is obviously a psychotic.

Turgidson:

Well, I'd like to hold off judgment on a thing like that, sir, until all the facts are in.

Muffley:

anger rising General Turgidson, when you instituted the human reliability tests, you assured me there was no possibility of such a thing ever occurring.

Turgidson:

Well I don't think it's quite fair to condemn a whole program because of a single slip up sir.

If you weren't hired for competence, you won't be fired for incompetence.

That's a sadly profound statement, although not completely true.

If you get hired because you're someone's friend, then you can easily be fired for your incompetence putting too much heat on the person who hired you

So: did Crooks visit an FBI office in DC in June?

We shall see. But would anyone fall out of their chairs if this is true?

Way up the thread Sally 327 made an observation: "I don't think she can answer a question that would indicate how the SS goes about determining where the perimeter starts and stops and how what's inside or outside it is evaluated for risk." Sorry Sally, but the theory and practice of establishing a defensive perimeter is as old as military tactics. Going back to my claim that a raw USMC Second Lieutenant at the Basic School could have done a better job planning and executing the withdrawal from Afghanistan, I will say that that same inexperienced Second Lieutenant could have done a better establishing the perimeter at Trump's rally. Usually one starts with a map, but in this case they had aerial photos of the location. First thing you see in the photos is that there are several high points that overlook the podium and each one has a clear field of fire to that podium. My mythical Second Lieutenant would first designate a fire team to control each of those high points. No big secret, just painfully obvious. Having eliminated the distant high points our mythical Second Lieutenant would then turn his attention the possible locations of close-in threats. Apparently the SS has figured that part out- maybe. If our Second Lieutenant failed to establish the appropriate defensive perimeter as the SS did, he might not lose his commission, but he would sure as hell be relegated to being a Motor Transport Officer where he could not do any harm with his lack of tactical understanding. Cheatle should be defenestrated and one of my Lieutenants who knew to cover the high ground should take over.

No, but its bad fieldwork, that's for sure. However, we have reached the peak "elites" incompetence and corruption level which accompanies failed/near collapse empires.

As Peggy Noonan called it on election night in 2016, Trump was elected because enough people were tired of being lorded over by our inferiors who call themselves "elites".

Now we find out the SS has no audio recordings for the day of the assassination... none. Least that is what Cheatle says.

So did she use Hillary's bleachbit or what?

@ridespacemountain

You seem to know your shit. So if you are waling through your armory, what weapon would you pick and why? For what reasons do you select the AR over a hunting rifle? Why the Crooks make that choice. Assume he didn't reach into a bag and picked the first thing that came out. What reasons? It's easier to conceal? Less recoil? Does recoil matter if your plan is a single headshot anyhow? I'm interest in the thought process.

Not going to speak for rsm but I will add some input:

Our snipers had options but when they were planning to cover 600 yards or less they generally used a base m4(ar15) rig with I think an 8x adjustable optic, suppressor 16’ or 18’ barrel and a bolt lock, This is a relatively light weight and manageable setup.

They had 7.62 and 50 cal rigs as options. They took those when longer ranges were needed or vehicle interdiction was a possibility.

For what this kid was trying to do the ar15 was absolutely a legitimate choice and superior to almost anything else.

I will say a bullpup bolt action like the DT SRS would get on the board of family feud as well. The ar rig is pretty long and hard to put in a backpack.

And "secure" does not mean "overwatch", it means physically controlling that piece of ground, or roof, as the case may be.

In a discussion about the jargon flying around I will say that overwatch is being both over and mis used.

What's yer point here? Mine is, why would the SS and FBI enlist a rank amateur to perform such an act? One where he could be SEEN by the people at the rally?

Perhaps because a competent shooter would be aware that his chances of survival were damned close to zero. A good shooter would take up a position at least 800 meters (roughly a half mile) away to improve his chances of escape, he’d use a bolt action rifle with at least a match grade barrel (or perhaps a Springfield Armory M1A), and he’d probably have fitted a silencer (even though the bullet would be supersonic). And a true scope, not a red dot sight suitable for a handgun.
************

This argument chases its tail: if the kid was an amateur, he might be easier to kill, but he also might be more likely to screw up---which he did. Those rapid fire shots indicate a lack of experience. Had he assessed why his first shot missed he could have taken a better one.
Instead, he just blazed away, the later shots being farther away than the first.

That's not what the pro hiding 800 meters away in the woods would have done.

We'll all be interested to see if any of the kid's friends, neighbors and schoolmates know if he had been visited by Men in Black. If not, I remain skeptical.

Parents who have chaperoned a teenager's social event (high school band trip, for example) could do a better job of choosing where you need observers and do a better job of stopping and questioning anyone acting suspicious.

Of course no one will ask them because they're probably all members of their schools' PTAs and so are on some FBI terrorist watch list.
