At the end of the day, Trump is a meme, and he knows it. Using the chart as a kind of virtual wallpaper is the kind of masterstroke only he has the vision to pull off, without overusing it. Actually, it would normally work only for Trump stans, but now? Yeah, you'd better believe people are paying attention now.
They need ONE more screen with the chart on it to make the point.
I do hope this image is widely shared for the content of the chart. As you might recall from Saturday he was pointing out that the arrow shows where his border policies took effect. An excellent graphic.

Someone, not here, commented on the charts as being "Perot territory"
I've been thinking about perot for a few months. I'd been a fan since the 70s for various reasons. I was really excited about his candidacy.
Then he pulled out because someone threatened to disrupt his daughters wedding or some such.
Compare that threat to what President trump has endured.
What a wuss. We dodged a huge bullet when perot dropped out.
I lost all respect for the man. Haven't thought much about him since.

That chart would probably get people from the UK to convince Trump to move there in 2029 and come run their country.
The chart shows Obama did a more consistent job on the border than Trump.

What I took from the perot-like comment was how much perot relied on charts.
Not so much on substance. Though there are similarities there too.
I liked most of perots ideas and politics.

It's the Dem's big weakness in this election, and they know it. In the "debacle" debate, Biden tried to respond with some weird double-talk about how much lower border crossing were at the end of his term. This graphic is a great response to that.
The “Great Replacement” theory holds that this invasion is a deliberate Democrat attempt to turn America into a corrupt one-party socialist state, along the lines of 20th century Mexico under the PRI. While I have some sympathy for this view, I think it is more desperate and dire for the Democrats these days, and this is just running to stand still.
They are losing the votes of the working class, particularly but not exclusively the white working class. Their remaining voters are wedded to homosexuality, abortion, transgenderism, careerist girl-boss feminism, catastrophism on climate change and overpopulation, and a deep hatred of religion, patriotism, traditional sex roles, and optimistic American exceptionalism. It’s well documented that leftists have a markedly greater incidence of having been diagnosed with a serious mental illness than conservatives, especially among young liberal women, nearly half of whom are taking psychiatric medications. They have a higher incidence of sterility due to venereal diseases and repeated abortions. They are not suitable marriage partners and they are not reproducing themselves. They will go extinct and leave the country to evangelical Christians, traditional Catholics, the Amish, orthodox Jews, Mormons, and Muslims. So to the extent there is a Great Replacement, it’s replacing the missing left-wingers, not the rest of us.
I devoutly hope they fail and do successfully extirpate themselves.

The Immigration Chart is nothing like the work of Minard. It's just a statistical chart plotting numbers over time.
The "Napoleon Map" melds statistics, time, and geography. Much more impressive accomplishment than producing a simple chart on a computer.

Now to be fair, we don't know precisely how they intended to "disrupt" his daughter's wedding. Perhaps they were a bit more explicit when they conveyed their threats to Perot.
Did they threaten to "disrupt your daughter's wedding" or '"disrupt" your daughter's wedding--you know what I mean"?
It's not like we lack documentation of the government doing much worse things.
Probably Trump would have gotten a similar warning at an earlier stage except that Hilary's Clinton and her fellow geniuses decided that they wanted to run against him so that the Democrats would win giant majorities. Ooopsie!
And for those who were wondering why Melania wasn't more involved: Because she had to deal with a few dozen minutes when she thought that the father of her son was dead, and her response to that at some level HAS to be to wish that her husband had not chosen to run for office so that he, she, their child, and everyone associated with them wouldn't be targets of both organized, crazy, evil people and disorganized, crazy, evil people for the rest of their lives.
It wasn’t just the chart that saved him, it’s the fact he chose to display it and talk about it that early in his speech. It was also an anomalous thing for him to do at all at any of his rallies. If you think about it too much you’ll get an even larger dose of the heebie-jeebies.

Unfortunately, they've gamed our educational systems so that their doctrine is self-replicating. I hold out hope that reality will smack some of them upside the head, but exposure of their evil motives and tactics may be more effective than attrition.
My legal career had a significant diversion into the development of software when I was in my mid-30s. Spent a certain amount of time thinking and learning about user interface and how to visually express things. Tufte was an inspiration to someone who had been a polysci/econ major.
But measured on a different scale, the Trump chart may have a broader reach.

1. Perot Voters have obviously been proven right by history.
2. I am not sure but I believe he blamed his pull out on the wedding plot but it was actually because he was polling worse than the first time. I believe Perot did a risk reward calculation and decided that if he had no shot to win he couldn't do any good. This was wrong IMO.
3. I have no doubt that the Uniparty was harassing his family and threatening him. I have no doubt that FBI agents and unaffiliated uniparty thugs were playing fuck fuck games with Perot and the people he loved.
4. The real failing with respect to Perot was on the part of Republican voters in general. Perot was right. The Bush supporters were wrong. Republican voters need to accept that.
