This was one of the most beautiful and varied sunrises we've seen. Ordinarily when there's vivid color half an hour before sunrise — as in the first photo — it fades to gray by sunrise. This kept the bright color show going. And I liked how the texture changed from rough to fuzzy. Another nice feature was the intermittent gentle rain. And here's a picture Meade took of me at 4:52:

Falsely Accused Wall Street Journal Reporter Evan Gershkovich in Court for Start of Secret Russian Trial

This is press freedom and due process Russian style. Critics of the US and apologists for Assange might want to reflect on the broader picture.

"I suspect the vibe shift in tech is much more extensive than we realize.

An anecdote:

I was invited last week to a private group chat with about 50 tech leaders. Many CEOs and founders everyone knows. Many very big names.

The plan was to debate Trump vs. Biden through the lens of tech. But interestingly, there were apparently no Biden supporters in the group. None. The group organizer had to go find and pull in known Biden supporters to speak for that side."

Great photos, indeed. It's amazing to me how one spot on Earth can look so different, day after day, for years.

But...I've been to Mandalay. The flying fishes are in the mighty Irrawaddy River, obviously not on the road.

Also, the dawn doesn't come up like thunder outer China "crost the bay, since there's no such bay, and Burma's border with China is in the northeast and far inland.

(And don't get me started about how the sea isn't visible from any old Moulmein pagoda--or about the stupidly named Las Vegas casino, "Mandalay Bay". The latter reminds me of a local property called "Mackerel Hill". Apparently it was fished out years ago.)

imTay বলেছেন...

"Falsely Accused"

So he was deep inside Russia, at a time of war in an area restricted to foreigners, trying to figure out details of their military production for a piece he wanted to publish in the WSJ, and Assange published documents leaked to him by others, you know, just like the Pentagon Papers, or like the leaks we read in the papers every day, practically.

Other than that, they are exactly the same.

imTay বলেছেন...

Remember when we caught a small ring of Russian spies who had gotten close to Hillary? We had them dead to rights, could have locked them up for life, working on them, getting them to answer questions, etc. What did we do? We immediately deported them before they could be fully interrogated. Hillary was Secretary of State when we did that. It was right out of Burn After Reading.

Hillary had already taken hundreds of millions from Putin or her "foundation," which is a nice vehicle for handing out cushy and remunerative jobs which make great incentives to dangle in front of people to do what you want them to, and then Hillary got Putin's deal approved to lock up most of North America's Uranium. No way she needed the hundreds of millions to grease palms, though.

Good times... good times.

imTay বলেছেন...

Oh, and let's not forget American Citizen and journalist Gonzalo Lira, who died in a Ukrainian prison for publishing articles critical of the Ukrainians in the war. He never published anything that gave away secrets, he was critical of the Ukrainian position in the war, and he died in prison within about a month of being arrested. I bet the American consulate was all over that one... Ummm, no they weren't.

In fact, the Ukrainians, who were trained in ops infiltrating Russia by our own CIA, you can read about it in the New York Times, assassinated journalists in Russia as well, as well as the daughter of some media talking head who is a popular defender of Russia's position in the war.

You can read the article in archive.org if you don't have a subscription

Shorter Supreme Court: A minor incursion by the U.S. Government on the protections guaranteed by the First Amendment will not prompt a strong reaction by the court. Proceed accordingly.

Dr Weevil বলেছেন...

imTay (6:06am) writes that Gonzalo Lira "died in prison within about a month of being arrested". He was arrested on July 31st and reported dead on January 12th, which implies that he died on either the 11th or 12th, but was not known to be dead until the 12th. Either imTay is so stupid he thinks five and a third months is "about a month", or he's so damned lazy he can't be bothered to do the minimal amount of work it would take to avoid putting his name on gross falsehoods.

His assertion that Ukraine murdered "the daughter of some media talking head" is another bald-faced lie. No one knows who killed Daria Dugina, or whether she, rather than her father, was even the target of the bombing that killed her. They were traveling together, though in separate cars. The fact that she was openly calling Defense Minister Shoigu incompetent and urging Putin to give her his job makes Shoigu a top suspect if she was the target.

Of course, imTay doesn't name Aleksandr Dugin, because people might look him up on Wikipedia and find out that he's a literal Nazi and Stalinist who is very influential on Putin. Nor has imTay noticed that Ukraine would be very stupid to kill Dugin, since having a lunatic advising Putin makes him far likelier to do stupid things. It wasn't the German military that assassinated Rasputin: his power and influence only helped them and harmed the Russians.

"Of course, imTay doesn't name Aleksandr Dugin, because people might look him up on Wikipedia and find out that he's a literal Nazi and Stalinist who is very influential on Putin."

Yeah, and Russia would be justified in assassinating Hannity's daughter too.

Did you guys know that the CIA has a full time staff that does nothing but edit Wikipedia? Russian language Wikipedia is totally dominated by Ukraine, too. It's no wonder that our friend here is so quick to cite that compromised source as some kind of "authority."

imTay বলেছেন...

If I got all of my "facts" from Wikipedia and the US and British media mainstream media, I would probably be urging everybody to welcome WW3 too. Garbage in, garbage out.

Dr Weevil বলেছেন...

An honest man would either give evidence that Gonzalo Lira died after a month in jail, or admit that he was off by 430% and promise to do better next time, but imTay can't bring himself to do either.

An honest man would also admit that there is zero evidence that Ukraine had anything to do with the murder of Daria Dugina, and that he doesn't even know whether she was the target, much less who did it.

An honest man would not try to pretend that Sean Hannity is somehow equivalent to an actual Nazi Stalinist and buddy of Putin.

imTay is not an honest man, and is almost certainly paid to write the stupid lies he writes here.

Dr Weevil বলেছেন...

Interesting that imTay doesn't tell us where he gets his "facts"? When 'tim in vermont' was pushing the same stupid lies, it turned out he was getting his from the likes of Kim Dott Comm! Hahahaha! Is imTay just 'tim in vermont' under a new name? The method is quite similar.

Iman বলেছেন...

TMI, Rusty @10:02pm!

Dr Weevil বলেছেন...

Will imTay tell us where he gets his information? Why he thinks Wikipedia can't be trusted on basic facts like the dates on which Gonzalo Lira was imprisoned and died? Of course, no one trusts them on questions like whether Lira was a hero or a villain, but they are in fact pretty reliable on factual questions. So what's imTay's alternative? Does he still insist that those dates were a month apart, not more than five? Why can't he argue like an honest man?

Kakistocracy বলেছেন...

@ imTay — Assange is not a hero. He is an irresponsible opportunist and as the UK judge Michael Snow described him, "a narcissist who cannot get beyond his own selfish interests."

A legitimate and responsible journalist would have been more selective in publishing the Wikileaks documents to protect human intelligence sources, as was the case when the New York Times, Le Monde, Der Spiegel, The Guardian, and El Pais published documents from Wikileaks.

But Assange didn't care, and published all the raw documents himself, which endangered the lives of human intelligence operatives in a war zone. He wasn't a journalist; he was a hacker.

In the aftermath he appeared to be sympathetic to Vladimir Putin's Russia, which casts a different light on the entire episode and his political values. Wikileaks later publishing US Democratic party documents during the run-up to the 2016 election and aiding Trump's candidacy- which were obtained from Russian intelligence sources- confirmed his relationship with Putin's Russia. And praise from Majorie Taylor Greene for his efforts is hardly the type of endorsement worthy of respect.

There are many differences between Assange and Daniel Ellsberg, for example, who was responsible for The Pentagon Papers. Assange does not compare favorably on any level.

His supporters (and even the news coverage) are strikingly quiet on the DNC email dump. The reality is Assange lost his way and decided to work for Putin.
